Declaración conjunta de organizaciones de Wikimedia y particulares respecto a la situación actual en Palestina, 7 de abril de 2024

Quienes abajo firmamos, wikimedistas y organizaciones afiliadas, expresamos nuestra profunda preocupación por la actual crisis humanitaria a la que se enfrenta la población palestina, en particular la pérdida masiva de vidas, la devastación de las infraestructuras y la grave escasez de alimentos en la Franja de Gaza, generado por el estado de Israel. Expresamos nuestra profunda preocupación por la seguridad y el bienestar de los activistas de Wikimedia y de los movimientos aliados en el territorio palestino ocupado. Asegurar la seguridad y el bienestar de las personas en el ámbito del conocimiento libre es fundamental; el conocimiento no puede ser verdaderamente libre si se hace a expensas de la seguridad humana.

En palabras del difunto reverendo Desmond Tutu, "Si eres neutral en situaciones de injusticia, has elegido el lado del opresor". En consonancia con nuestro compromiso de defender la dignidad humana y la justicia, abogamos firmemente por la paz y una resolución justa.

Como muestra de solidaridad, algunos de los grupos firmantes han adoptado los colores de la bandera palestina en sus respectivos logotipos, siguiendo la iniciativa de la comunidad árabe de Wikipedia para simbolizar su apoyo tras el día de acción de diciembre de 2023.

Instamos a todos los grupos Wikimedia, afiliados, personas aliadas y personas voluntarias a unirse en solidaridad con la humanidad y exigir un alto el fuego inmediato y duradero para detener la dramática pérdida de vidas y la destrucción del patrimonio cultural palestino. Además, pedimos a la Fundación Wikimedia que tome medidas proactivas para garantizar la seguridad del voluntariado, las comunidades, los socios y las instituciones del conocimiento y la memoria de Palestina que contribuyen a la difusión del conocimiento.

Además, aprovechamos esta oportunidad para subrayar la importancia del apoyo mundial para mejorar el contenido palestino en todos los proyectos de Wikipedia.
