Instructions
Before posting here
Before posting here, please check the following points:
- If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki (visit Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat on the wiki to check): Please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki.
- Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).
- Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion. In the case that the project does not have a local bot policy, the global bot policy applies.

Making a request
- Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
=== Bot name@xxproject === {{sr-request | status = <!--don't change this line--> | domain = | user name = | discussion = }} (your remarks) ~~~~
You can use following form when applying global bot status:
=== Global bot status for <yourbotname> === {{sr-request | status = <!--don't change this line--> | domain = global<!--don't change this line--> | user name = | discussion = }} {{indent|''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''}} (your remarks) ~~~~
-
Fill in the values:
- 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
- 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
- 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
- If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Global bot status requests
Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will be left open for at least 2 weeks to allow comments, and will be advertised via MassMessage by a steward.
Please add requests at the bottom of this section using the template above.
Global bot status for Dušan Kreheľ (bot)

- Task: Removal of tracking URL parameters.

- Hello @Dušan Kreheľ, I reviewed a couple of edits at the wikis where the task is already approved. While reviewing the edits, I noticed [1] [2] [3] and similar. Why was
_r
removed as a tracking parameter? To generalize my question: What rules does the bot use to decide whether or not a parameter is tracking? Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:33, 11 July 2022 (UTC)- The task description seems to have several footnotes on why. Did you review that? Izno (talk) 21:48, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec I believe User:Dušan_Kreheľ/Bot:Removal_of_tracking_URL_parameters#Removes_parameters_from_URL should have the full list of removed url parameters, most of which have a source as to why they are removed (although alas
_r
seems to lack a source.) -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 17:58, 12 July 2022 (UTC)- Thanks @Izno and @Asartea, I managed to miss the docs subpage, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. That said, the Google Groups thread linked at it ([4]) doesn't really clarify much – it appears to be originally about
gtm
(and/r
, ie. a part of path, not a parameter). The_r
parameter is mentioned there with a link to [5], but that page (unless I miss something) doesn't mention/confirm the trackiness. - On another note, I also noticed [6] [7]. While this seems to be correct cleanup, it looks out of scope to me (as it doesn't appear to remove a tracking parameter). Martin Urbanec (talk) 22:17, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec: I added 2 new reference for the parameter "_r". A official definition for the parameter "r" is maybe in the history somewhere of the webachive.org.
- Even one insignificant character can be used for tracking. Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 13:27, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding the references, I appreciate it. Looks much better now. While it's true even single-character parameter values can be used for tracking (anything can), the important question is whether the parameters indeed are used for tracking (or at least, do not affect the resulting HTML). The second option (returned HTML is the same) should be reasonably easy to implement, and it would increase my confidence with the bot. Martin Urbanec (talk) 18:12, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec: I don't want to verify the functionality of the lines.
- Verifying the functionality of the lines may not be easy. The pages don't can exist. Questionable result: the HTML can be changed in the advertisement, the template can be changed, the information can be from an image or pdf document to the page. And it takes time to check changes. If there is a questionable parameter (e.g. ref), I will not add it (less is sometimes more). If by chance something goes wrong, it can be wiped out. Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 18:02, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

redirect=no
is legitimately used in Mediawiki talk pages and some help pages. Leave them out or stick to main namespace? Geraki TL 15:51, 14 July 2022 (UTC)- @Geraki: I removing, because i thinks the one idea: The local wikipedia is a one "URL database" and for this database is good to have the clean URLs, none parameters to emulate the user behavior. The URL in the local wiki create the new space to share the URLs and because the clean links.

- Comment The bot description has been updated. The parameters redirect / noredirect has been removed. The parameter feature is included to removing. (@1234qwer1234qwer4, EpicPupper, and Geraki: Ping).
- Comment There is currently some activity at de:User talk:Dušan Kreheľ (bot), and IMHO there are some reasonable suggestions that should be implemented before this is run at even larger scale / less monitored wikis. --Krd 15:42, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose I have noticed the problems in dewiki. Dušan has responded to all requests and fixed problems when someone noticed them. But I think this bot needs more experience and we need to reduce the problems as good as possible before we let them edit small projects where problems are not noticed so fast. I would suggest to wait some weeks/months until everything works a bit better. --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- i agree that it needs more experience. -- seth (talk) 21:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- Comment I also think that the issues caused by the recent deployment of the bot in German-language Wikipedia are somewhat concerning. FYI, the bot is currently blocked in dewiki pending a fix of the issues. Gestumblindi (talk) 18:44, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per the issues at dewiki. I don't have any issues with the task itself, but it seems its implementation has issues. I think a new global bot should run w/o issues at several wikis (ideally, including some of the major wikis) w/o issues before the flag is granted. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:30, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per Martin but happy to revisit at a later date. --Rschen7754 18:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Global bot status for JhsBot
- Global user: JhsBot (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Now that the RFC to make all new wikis global bot wikis has passed, I would like to re-submit my bot global bot application from September:
In August/September I developed a module+template that adds interwiki links from Wikidata to pages in the Wikimedia Incubator using arbitrary access, as well as a gadget that adds that template to pages. This is done because test wikis in the Wikimedia Incubator can't be connected to Wikidata in the same way that real wikis can. When a new wiki is created, it can some times take days or even weeks for sitelinks from Wikidata to be enabled. When that happens, I will run this bot manually, and it will only be run once per new wiki to add sitelinks to the pages that exist at the date of creation.
The script does two things in tandem: (1) It adds the sitelink to Wikidata, and (2) it removes the template from the page on the local wiki. Therefore I also filled an identical request for bot status on Wikidata, which was approved last month.

Please see the removal policy for global bots for the requirements that must be met for global bot removal requests.
Bot status requests
Please add new requests at the bottom of this section.
Removal of bot status
Requests for removal of the bot status from your own bots can be done here. If a specific user is abusing their bot status, you may request removal of the status on their account here as well. Please be sure to provide a short explanation on the current situation, along with links to the bot's contribution and an announcement in your community of the abuse. Previous requests are archived.
Inactive bots @brwikipedia

The proposal to remove the bot flag from bots that have been inactive for at least two years met no oppositions (and no reactions, actually). Most of these bots used to manage interwiki links, they are now useless. Some belong to users who have been gone for many years.
