WMF staff and TA user right

Good day all. Even though it is a longstanding policy of WMF staff not requiring local input for granting of user rights, I'd like to propose that in future, all WMF staff and contractors requesting for the translation admin user right to go through the local community with the requirements stated at Meta:Translation administrators. They are required to display competence in using the user right before they get it to prevent unnecessary work for other translation admins. I've personally encountered at few staffers who do not understand how the extension works and erroneously marking the page for translation. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 13:37, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

I agree, back when I was more active as a translation admin it was always such a pain to fix it after staff all the time. As far as I have seen little has changed, most staff do not follow the guidelines and you have to roll up your eyes and start fixing after them because you didn't have anything better to do. This is not the only user right that is problematic in how staff uses it, sometimes I see some questionable usages of MassMessage too (with unclosed tags etc), but TA is a much bigger and older issue. --Base (talk) 09:07, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

@Minorax, thanks for raising this issue here. I'm sorry if my work disrupted the wiki or caused any frustration. I accept that my edits disrupted the translations in some cases, but I don't agree that all my edits as TA were disruptive. For example, here are my two most recent actions as TA: (1) marking the recent announcement page and adding translations, (2) updating the committee page: Special:Diff/26179790/26227392. This doesn't mean I haven't made mistakes, but that I learn from my mistakes (as I also mentioned on my talk page). So, regardless of the decision on this request, if you notice any disruptive edits from my end, please drop the diff links on my talkpage, even without any comments, and I'll fix the issue and learn from it. @Xaosflux, thanks for your comment. Per Meta:Event Organizers the requirement is „no active blocks on the wiki on which you are applying for the right“, doesn't say anything about blocks on other projects.
