Steward requests/Global permissions
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Global rename for Bishonen
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (list 'crats • bot policy • summary • 'crats rights)
- User: Bishonen (talk • edits • logs • UserRights • activity • CentralAuth • email • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 15 April 2016 16:45 UTC
- Hi. I'm an admin on English Wikipedia, and I sometimes block new users for having misguidedly promotional usernames. Several times recently I've run across perfectly proper unblock requests + username change requests from these people — I've got one pending right now. I would like to unblock them myself, and at the same time be able to do the actual rename (rather than throw a newbie out into our bureaucratic jungle to fend for themselves). Bishonen (talk) 16:45, 1 April 2016 (UTC).
- Support. Bishonen is one of our best en.wiki admins and does a lot to help users with problems, including blocked ones who need to be renamed - and the "Yes, that username is allowed and I've unblocked, but now you have to jump through this next hoop" palaver is too daunting. - Support trusted and active user with a demonstrated user for the rights. I'm also glad that this system allows admins active in this area to be able to rename users without needing to become bureaucrats. Ajraddatz (talk) 19:10, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Nirmos
- Global user: Nirmos (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi. I would like to be a global interface editor to update old JavaScript. Nirmos (talk) 13:00, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
- Question. What is your experience with js editing? Ruslik (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ruslik0: At Swedish Wikipedia I have made a lot of gadgets as well as scripts for individual users. The substitutions that need to be done on all projects I've already made on Swedish Wiktionary, Swedish Wikibooks, Swedish Wikiquote, Swedish Wikinews and Wikimedia Sweden. Nirmos (talk) 20:38, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
This is urgent. Many projects will be in script error later this month if no one does anything. I would like to fix as many projects as I can before that happens. Nirmos (talk) 17:12, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- First of all, these requests are typically open for 5 days. If there are urgent problems that need fixing, post a request on SRM. I also don't understand what you plan on doing - can you provide more specific details of what old JS you want to update, and where? Ajraddatz (talk) 17:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ajraddatz: The technical details are that all global variables (except
mw
) will be removed. You can read more here: - This needs to be done on all projects. Nirmos (talk) 17:21, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- I guess that all other interface editors are aware of this too, right? —MarcoAurelio 17:55, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ajraddatz: The technical details are that all global variables (except
This is not a joke. I need to start working now to minimize the destruction when this hits. Nirmos (talk) 17:46, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- This right isn't a joke either. As you can understand, we can't approve this without community consensus and favourable comments. Thanks for your understanding. —MarcoAurelio 18:19, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Support from myself. The requestee seems to be well-intentioned and competent enough to make the changes. If this is such a large problem though, there should probably be coordination with other volunteers and perhaps help from the WMF. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:23, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Are you aware it is discouraged to make use of this permission without asking the local communities in case they are not small? --Vogone (talk) 23:19, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose Unconvinced that the user is willing to tread carefully and work cooperatively with local communities, given the "urgent" need to "minimize the destruction". Usually when I've seen this sort of rationale, this "reason" is used to stonewall the local community into submission. --Rschen7754 07:31, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose I'm not convinced that the user has enough JS experience, nor am I convinced that (as Rschen7754 says right above me) that the user will be careful enough with this right especially in the communities that dislike outsiders mucking around with their stuff. If the need is so pressing, as Nirmos claims it is, certainly there are stewards and/or others who have a proven track record with this right that can make the needed fixes.
