Steward requests/Global permissions

This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Global rollback for Koavf

Not ending before 25 August 2023 06:04 UTC
Morning everyone, after contacting them on email, I believe is the time to nominate Koavf (talk · contribs) as a global rollbacker. Koavf is a long-term trusted user on the whole wikimedia project. They are a checkuser, one of the sysops on more than 5 wiki projects and one of the rollbackers on 4 wiki projects, and now they are active on numerous small wikis for fighting vandalism. Courtesy @Koavf: for creating such a topic. Lemonaka (talk) 06:04, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. For what it's worth, I accept. If you look in my global contribs, you will see me fighting spam and vandalism across many SUL wikis as well as wikitech:. I'm hopeful that this will be a formality to let me undo vandalism as I find it in smaller projects. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:36, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for global sysop permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.

  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;

}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

Requests for global rename permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the global rename policy and the global renamers policy page.

Before requesting, make sure that:

  1. You have a global account;
  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;
  3. You have considered the addition of a user language box to your user page

=== Global rename for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = meta.wikimedia <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Global rename for Gadir

I have read and understood Global username policy. I volunteer for this job. Yours sincerely, Gadir (talk) 13:06, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not ending before 1 September 2023 13:06 UTC
  • Question Question: Can you please tell us something about yourself and why you think you need the rights? „I volunteer for this job.“ is obvious and doesn‘t help in making a decision. --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 14:17, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Answer: Hello. Firstly thank you for your attention. Ofcourse I want make help, that's why I put my candidacy. If you have any other questions, I can answer. Regards, Gadir (talk) 14:55, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Gadir okay, in which project did you work with Administrator Rights and for how long? TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 17:02, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    To be honest, I haven't done this so far. I don't have a long activity either. I started making substantial contributions in September 2021. In 1 month, my 2 years will be completed. I am working and I gathered a lot of experience. Why not in the future? But I guess it's not necessary to be an admin to be a renamer. I just think it's necessary for trust. Gadir (talk) 17:26, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    I will continue to do my best regardless of the result. Gadir (talk) 17:29, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you for your answer, but I Oppose Oppose. Thank you for volunteering. TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 07:19, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose. They failed to adequately explain their needs and experience. You don't necessarily need to be an admin to become a renamer, but you do require experience related to usernames. —Yahya (talkcontribs.) 19:35, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello. Thanks. I think I have experience. I have been nominated before. Also "they" ? I think you mean for local. No, this time to look at general requests. Gadir (talk) 20:07, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Many users don't programmatically look up other user's programmed gender words and just use "singular they". (Your setting are set to use masculine terms) — xaosflux Talk 23:29, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose Thank you for volunteering, but I am afraid you do not have enough experience for the right just yet. A better explanation of why you should get the tools would make me reconsider my vote, but as far as I am concerned, you haven't really been able to clarify your need for the right and your experience. I personally also believe that a little higher level of English language would come in handy should the right be granted. --V0lkanic (talk) 12:59, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose I do not understand your explanation for requesting this right. I would at least like to have an impression on which rename requests you would like to work (local ones, requests from the queue, requests on Meta). I also miss a link to your previous request. --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:51, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose We need to know why do you need this flag? Your responses above do not seem to be adequate. ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 09:57, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks for your comments. I will consider it and by improving myself, I will be a stronger and more successful candidate later. Best regards, Gadir (talk) 10:47, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions. Please review Global IP block exemption. You may request Global IP block exemption via stewards(_AT_)wikimedia.org if you can not edit this page.
Please note: Global IP block exemption does NOT make one immune to locally-created blocks of any sort, only global blocks.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting global IP block exemption, make sure that:

  1. You have a global account ;
  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;
To request global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Xiaoluobo58

由于身在中国,不得不使用代理,本人需要用维基数据添加页面描述,麻烦通过,谢谢--Xiaoluobo58 (talk) 10:35, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Xiaoluobo58: You already have a Wikidata IPBE. Do you still need this? -- Amanda (she/her) 07:55, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Xiaoluobo58, can you please answer Amanda's question above please? For the record, local IPBE's a stronger permission than the global exemption. If you're still seeing a block error, please share the error message here, so we can better assist you. Thanks! Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:16, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for 慕尼黑啤酒

I encountered problems when adding Interlanguage links, and I couldn't access wikidata, so need to request for Global IP block exempt. --慕尼黑啤酒 (talk) 00:55, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@慕尼黑啤酒: Exact same thing as above, you have local IPBE. Do you still need this? -- Amanda (she/her) 08:02, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AmandaNP: Yes, I need global permission, thanks.--慕尼黑啤酒 (talk) 09:14, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@慕尼黑啤酒: Fair, but why though? -- Amanda (she/her) 14:42, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AmandaNP: As I said above, I can't access to www.wikidata.org, so I can't add Interlanguage links, which is a problem for my daily editing and translation work. I'm guessing it's because I'm missing some sort of permission?--慕尼黑啤酒 (talk) 00:47, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is the error? Because you have local IPBE. You can't do better than local IPBE. -- Amanda (she/her) 01:51, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @慕尼黑啤酒, can you answer Amanda's question above please? For the record, local IP block exemption is "stronger" than the global one, and if the local IPBE didn't resolve the issue, it's likely something else plays a role. Please share the error message here please, so we can assist you better. Thanks! Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:15, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Yusancky

Hello. Since I'm from China, I can only access Wikipedia through a proxy server. About two months ago, I successfully applied for blocking exemption for the Chinese Wikipedia, and later I was autoconfirmed. Here, I would like to request global IP blocking exemption to correct and improve part of the English Wikipedia about spaceflight. Thanks. --Yusancky (talk) 12:22, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yusancky: A global exemption will not help you on the English Wikipedia. They block proxies a lot more than we do globally. GIPBE only affects global blocks, where local IPBE affects local and global blocks. My suggestion is you apply for it locally. -- Amanda (she/her) 17:43, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Huggums537

Hello. I was finally granted the exemption on my home enWiki, and I had also previously requested here, but the request here went dormant due to the long backlog at my home Wiki. My request here was dependent on getting approval on my home Wiki. I'm resubmitting my request here on the same premise as the previous request. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 12:15, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might also be a good idea to ping @Base and Vermont: since they participated in the previous request. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 20:12, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I should add that there have been no changes since the previous request. I still travel for work on public wifi with the same concerns for security and privacy mentioned in the previous request. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 06:49, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CAPTCHA exempt for Tol

Hi! I previously requested CAPTCHA exemption, as I have a very hard time completing them. However, I was informed that I could use User:Krinkle/Tools/Global SUL to create accounts on all WM wikis, and hence become autoconfirmed on wikis with a time-only autopromotion; I did this, and withdrew the request. However, I am still running into CAPTCHA issues on wikis which also have edit-count requirements for autopromotion. For example, in a recent effort to update a university wordmark across different language Wikipedias, I ran into CAPTCHAs on these two edits on Chinese Wikipedia, and this edit on Japanese Wikipedia. This is very inconveniencing, as I often have to try multiple times to complete the CAPTCHA, repeatedly generate new CAPTCHAs because I cannot figure them out, or ask someone else to help me with them. I think it's clear I'm not a spambot, and a CAPTCHA exemption would be quite helpful in circumstances like these. Thanks. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 23:15, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
