This page hosts requests for a username change. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Global username changes may also be requested here to be done by stewards and global renamers.

This is also the page where stewards can be requested to deal with problems relating to the unified login feature. These include:

  • Usurpation of accounts
  • Deletion of global accounts
Cross-wiki requests
Meta-Wiki requests

Before posting here[edit]

Please list specific projects that you need rename in under your request, unless you are requesting a completely global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname@xxproject ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = xx.project
 |Oldname    =
 |Newname    =
 |confirmation = [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]<!--Local request link-->
 |reason     = (your remarks here)

For example:

=== Example@jawiki ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = ja.wikipedia
 |Oldname    = Example
 |Newname    = Foo
 |confirmation = []
 |reason     = (your remarks here)

For global rename requests:

=== Example@global ===
 |status     = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain     = global
 |Oldname    = Example
 |Newname    = Foo
 |confirmation = []
 |reason     = <your remarks here>

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formal request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point, even if there's no community on the project. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists.

For changing your username on several wikis: If you want to have your username changed on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like. If you wish to be renamed on all wikis, and there is no existing local or global account at the new name, you can simply put "global", and you will be globally renamed.

Making a request for an account that is not yours[edit]

If you want to have an account renamed because its name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent to stewards(at)

SUL account deletions[edit]

Please specify the account to be deleted, e.g. by linking to the Special:CentralAuth page for it, and the reason for it.

Global requests[edit]

Two options exist for requesting renames

  1. Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed.

You have been allocated the global account by the formula determined by Wikimedia. Are you sure that you wish for this account to be moved?  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:02, 28 March 2015 (UTC)`
Hi, I am en:User:Spike. Just to give full information: The reason that pl:User:Spike/pl:User:Spike78 is requesting this name change is because I had sent him an e-mail where I had asked him for the name change so that I could take over the global account "Spike" and he had graciously accepted. User Spike (talk) 15:22, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
  • YES, and if next redundant question is to be like "r u sure that u r sure?"... Spike78 (talk) 08:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
  • YES, im sure that im sure. Spike78 (talk) 08:16, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
    @Spike78: Would you rather that we move the account to the global account Spike78?  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:55, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

@J2w1: do you own the account "Jikai"? If not, then we can't proceed the rename because we don't usurp global accounts. --Stryn (talk) 16:23, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Local renames are no longer possible by local users as per gerrit:160158. Thus, this is to be done by stewards. Vogone (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi User:Chess. So you want your 123chess456 accounts on commons, simplewiki, simplewikt and wikidata to be renamed to "Chess"? --MF-W 15:50, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, I've usurped on enwiki, so please change all of my accounts that you are able to to "Chess". I will have to make an usurp request on every individual wiki? Chess (talk) 20:03, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
There is not yet "global usurpation policy", so I guess you will have to request usurpation locally for now and the bureaucrats will have to ask Stewards to fulfill those local requests. –xeno 20:36, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Per Xeno above, we can't start ignoring local usurpation guidelines, asking local bureaucrats for comment might indeed be the best solution, though we also have to keep in mind that this is atransitional period to SUL finalisation where all these accounts will be forcibly renamed. Done on - as a local bureaucrat - and on enwikibooks and enwiktionary per previous precedents. Savhñ 20:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC) And some more (kawikibooks, trwikibooks, trwikiquote, mediawikiwiki, jawiki) based on previous precedents. Savhñ 21:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Two issues should be separated here: 1.) The renaming of the remaining 123chess456 accounts who have edits to the new name; 2.) The renaming ("usurpation") of the unattached Chess accounts.
In order to solve 1.), I have just done the following renames: (so please visit Special:MergeAccount)
Chess@commons->Chess (self-usurped)@commons
Chess@wikidata->Chess (self-usurped)@wikidata
The only remaining 123chess456'es with edits are on Meta and enwiki. That is obviously unsolvable at the moment, maybe you will want to request a merge when that function exists. --MF-W 21:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
I've usurped all 0-edit Chess accounts and merged the frwiki accounts. —DerHexer (Talk) 16:39, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Planning on using User:123chess456 as an alt account, for example, vanilla interface testing, insecure wifi, public computer terminals, etc. What I would like, is to usurp the remaining users. Chess (talk) 00:41, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Chess, please clarify whether you want the edits from 123chess456 merged into your Chess account or not. For usurpation, please inform the users and hold a month. Savhñ 10:53, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

On hold until the tool to merge SULs becomes available. Ajraddatz (talk) 17:55, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
I propose to decline this and process it when SUL merge is enabled. (Looks like it is not going to happen soon.) — Revi 12:36, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Pelikana@en.wikipedia (Usurp. request)[edit]

Uitgevoerd. Heb je een account op die eventueel bij je globaal account toegevoegd moet worden? Savhñ 13:34, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, user:Pepelikana on en.wp could be merged please, ty Pelikana (talk) 13:44, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
@Pelikana, can you provide an edit with the Pepelikana@enwiki account, so we can confirm you own that account? Savhñ 13:52, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
here you go and ty. Can i do a request for the separated here too? Pelikana (talk) 13:56, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Placing on hold pending the deployment of AccountMerge, since you have two global accounts and have contributed with both to commons and to other projects. I have updated the confirmation diff, since the one you provided was broken. Savhñ 10:44, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

I have usurped all "Khaled" accounts without any live edits, so you should be able to edit all projects except and with your "Khaled" account. I suggest you wait for SUL finalisation and the deployment of AccountMerge to merge these two. Alternatively, we could merge the accounts the old way (all individually) but that could lead to problems. Savhñ 14:13, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Peka@jawiki and other 3 projects[edit]

Time2wait.svg On hold @Pekachu: before we can do anything we require for you to make this account a global account. Please follow the link in your "My Preferences" to achieve this, and let us kn when that is done. We also require those accounts that are yours under the username "Peka" each are edited on their user or user talk pages by you so that we know that they are your accounts. On the edits, simply quote [[m:Special:PermanentLink/11066304]]. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:48, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Please refer my talk pages : jawb, jawt, jawn, jawp. Is this not enough? --Pekachu (talk) 09:26, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

This feature is under development (until now it was impossible). Development and testing can be maximum few more months, then it will be available. Samat (talk) 14:07, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Time2wait.svg awaiting global merge It was the solution suggested by a global renamer, to which no response was made. If you really want those 20+ edits then you will need to wait until global merge is available.  — billinghurst sDrewth 15:18, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Since you have contributed with both accounts on, we'll need to wait for AccountMerge. To allow us to merge your accounts once AccountMerge is deployed, please access en:Special:MergeAccount while logged into your Aharon account to create a global account. Otherwise, we will not be able to perform the merge. Savhñ 20:18, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
I've completed the form on en:Special:MergeAccount to create a global account. There appear to be a number of other accounts named 'Aharon' on other wikimedia sites. These are not mine. (Only the 'Aharon' account on is mine.) Thank you Savh. 17:14, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Great. As soon as AccountMerge is available, the merge of these two global accounts will be completed. This is expected to be before april. (Confirmation diff) Savhñ 17:31, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

My suggestion would be that you simply stop using the other account, otherwise, if you really want the two edits, then On hold, Time2wait.svg awaiting global merge since you want your username to be the account with fewer edits. Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 17:19, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[edit]

ÖPNV-Bob l´éponge@global[edit]

You have two "old usernames"? Ruslik (talk) 20:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, originally I was Bob l'éponge (can't spell it correctly with my phone), then I changed to ÖPNV-Bob l'éponge to emphasize that I'm interested in railway stuff (ÖPNV is German for public transport), but because I'm so stupid I didn't noticed when I logged in with the old name, leading to the 'reactivation' of that account. Later, I chose to rename me to U-Bahnfreund (metro friend), but again I sometimes forgot the rename, meaning ÖPNV-Bob l'éponge was also 'reactivated'. Lastly, in November, I think, I kinda didn't like that name anymore so I settled on Metrophil44. Fortunatly I already discovered my faults so I didn't reactivated that account too, so I just have to let the other two be merged with my real account. -- Metrophil44 (talk) 21:28, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Currently no tools exist to perform such a complex account merge. Ruslik (talk) 07:34, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: To simply it, it's ÖPNV-Bob l'éponge and Bob l'éponge → Metrophil44. That's not complex, is it? Or do you mean, that there's no merging tool at all (yet)-- Metrophil44 (talk) 18:23, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

You already have the global account Conifer. Ruslik (talk) 19:37, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Can the remaining unattached "Conifer" accounts be usurped, or is that done locally? And is there any way to merge my old and new accounts, especially on Commons? Thanks. Conifer (talk) 04:41, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes check.svg unattached accounts have been moved so you should be able to grab those accounts.

Banjo@global (Usurp. request)[edit]

Done for all 0-edit accounts, Time2wait.svg On hold for commons, cswiki, nlwiki and dawiki until the 7th April, where the users have been informed that they would be usurped in a month. The accounts on nowiki and itwiki have >100 edits, and though they have been informed of approaching finalisation and given the possibility to request a rename, they should not be usurped IMO (or else, they should be informed they will be usurped with a deadline). Savhñ 10:33, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
De acuerdo, muchas gracias! thanks! -Banjo (talk) 17:45, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

@QuinnHK: It has become a global SUL, so the only means that we have to address this is by a merge. If you wish for us to merge this then please let us know and we will move it to the section below.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:20, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: Yes, that would be ideal, if it could be FinnHK globally. QuinnHK (talk) 17:38, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Confirmation diff from Jaam account: [24] -- Jaamc (talk) 14:23, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Time2wait.svg On hold until 7 April We will give the user a couple of weeks to request a rename themself, before we force the account out of the way. It should be no issue to move the account of the way, and move the other into place. If not already done, it would be a good idea to sync the email addresses and passwords.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:58, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
On second thoughts, there are a lot of edits at that UserB account, and it may just be easier and more efficient to await that tool, and fully merge. Thoughts?  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: To clarify: I am en:User:B, m:User:B, and Commons:User:UserB. I am NOT Commons:User:B. When the finalization process completes, Commons:User:B - who is controlled by some other person - will get renamed. What I am asking for is for my Commons:User:UserB account to be renamed to Commons:User:B in his place instead of giving me a brand new account. The reason for my request is because I have a lot of edits as Commons:User:UserB that I would like to preserve. --B (talk) 22:26, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Comment CommentI fully understand the matter. The user at Commons will be renamed at the SUL time; you have the global account for UserB and the global account for B, and neither will be renamed as they are global. When the merge tool is available we will merge UserB to B, and you will have the Commons account with that.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:49, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
We stewards will get access to an account merge tool soon that can merge two or more complete global accounts. Till then, I would put this request on hold. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:43, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thank you both. --B (talk) 17:42, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Copyleft:, if you would like to usurp unattached en wiki account that can be done, so that you can use copyleft on en wiki too. Also if my understanding is correct, you want to merge Eurobas into copyleft account, it won't be possible for now because the user merge tool is still in development--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 11:21, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
@Shanmugamp7: we should be able to move out/usurp the enWP account, and move in the replacement. Just will need to get user to align passwords/passwords. We would need a confirmation of the Eurobas account to be moved and merged.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:09, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

If you hold all of the other accounts, then I am inclined to process this request. However, would you consider selecting a different name to make it easier on everyone :)? Ajraddatz (talk) 06:29, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
The other Bouwdewijn (commons, dewp) has been inactive for 8 years and was only active for 2 days. They also have less edits in total. I think we should give the global account to this Boudewijn (enwp, nlwp, enwn, enwk, nlwk). I suggest switching the global account choice (deleting the global account) and warning the other user of the coming SUL finalisation. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 07:05, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: I understand that each request adds a manual burden on a complex project, and have considered selecting another user name. I also considered the active time of the other account: as Takata points out: it was only active on two dates (less than sixty minutes, crossing from one to the next date at midnight). Thank you for your time on this. @Takata: thanks :-)
addition for clarity: I would still like to retain Boudewijn as user name :-)

@Psychedelia: You should request the moving the account from ruWP to this account name. I doubt that we will look to resolve poet@global, it looks problematic. Okay. Thank you! Tibor (talk) 09:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

@Sanyi4: You have the global account under this name. What we can look to do is to merge those pertinent accounts from Kontas. We will need for you to login to each of the relevant accounts under Kontas and identify which are to be merged. Some may be able to do soon, others will need to wait until the global unification process is further progressed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

@Beastin: I have deleted the global account so feel free to go and merge any existing accounts. We can look to merge the accounts after unification. We will need a confirmation that "beastinwith" is yours and should be merged into this account. @Billinghurst: Okay, I seem to have registered a global account under the name beastin and merged my beastin account at MediaWiki. I put a copy of this request on my user page at beastinwith on the English Wikipedia to prove that I own the account. If there's something else that I need to do please let me know. Thank you. --Beastin (talk) 04:37, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Time2wait.svg pending merge tool User has confirmed request from target account, and here from the originating account.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:54, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

You have two accounts: Thomasdeniau and Thomas Deniau. Currently we can't merge those accounts. Waiting for the merge tool. --Stryn (talk) 20:15, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

I think that here we need to await the merge tool. Also, do you own all of those Djb accounts? --Stryn (talk) 20:24, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

@Nodder: Your "Nodder" username is already your global account. Also, do you own Svetlan on the Bulgarian Wikipedia (it has the global account for Svetlan)? --Stryn (talk) 21:47, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Well, no. The account on Bulgarian Wikipedia is not mine. --Nodder (talk) 22:09, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
@Nodder: Ok, Please confirm that the account "Svetlan" on the English Wikipedia belongs to you (log in on enwiki and edit your [Svetlan] own talk/user page). --Stryn (talk) 17:45, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
@Stryn: Done! --Nodder (talk) 19:29, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
@Nodder: One more request, sorry: please login on your account on enwiki and go to Special:MergeAccount then we can perform the global rename. --Stryn (talk) 05:13, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for messing up here; we can't merge global accounts yet, need to wait until the global account merge tool is available. --Stryn (talk) 08:40, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

@Ploutarxos Pastras: is Πλούταρχος Πάστρας already your account? --Stryn (talk) 16:52, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes please make it a global account. Is it possible to rename properly in order to keep my recent contribution under Πλούταρχος Πάστρας?--Πλούταρχος Πάστρας (talk) 17:07, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

What accounts at other projects do belong to you? Ruslik (talk) 07:36, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
None of the other "Pikachu" accounts belong to me. Enwiki only. 2605:A601:557:C201:69BF:97F9:596D:9546 17:22, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Comment Comment I don't think that this account should take precedence. Pumping up an edit account after the criteria has been made available should not be the determinator. Two years of not editing is not particularly inactive, and the counts of the other accounts of this username that are of a similar condition. I suggest that you choose another name for your account.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:34, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Had a warning been issued to me, via e-mail or talkpage, before the "too late, you're going to be renamed" message, I would've taken care of the issue then. Since I have always only dealt with Enwiki, I never saw any of the posts on meta (and, in fact, can't even log into meta) to know that the rename was imminent. The criteria being made available wasn't really all that available. When an account has been on the brink of usurpation in the past, a notice would be put on the target account's talkpage while there was still an opportunity to do something about it. With this, no notice was given until it was too late. I did what I could immediately after direct notice was given, and I am hoping that I am doing sufficient to warrant the "override on a case-by-case basis." 16:48, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Juanmanuelarcia@on several projects[edit]

@Noble Caraqueño: If you look at Special:CentralAuth/Juanmanuelarcia there are a number of unattached accounts, are they yours too? If they are then please login into that account and, via the preferences, and merge the accounts. At that point we can list the account for merge.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:16, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Done!--Noble Caraqueño (talk) 04:44, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
@Noble Caraqueño: Yes check.svg Done, please go to Special:MergeAccount for attaching those unattached accounts to your global one. --Stryn (talk) 18:25, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
I still see two accounts in Special:CentralAuth/Juanmanuelarcia. Are they not going to be merged with the account Noble Caraqueño?--Noble Caraqueño (talk) 17:23, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Well they have no edits, but we can merge them with your main account after the merge tool is available. So marking this on hold. Also renaming them is possible, but deleting accounts is not possible. We could also unattach them and then someone else could get the global account. Stryn (talk) 17:32, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
I”ll wait for the merge tool.--Noble Caraqueño (talk) 17:54, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

AS you have edited at meta you now have an account under your new name, and we either have to move the existing account out of the way to move in the old account; or we simply wait until the globalisation takes place and merge the old and the new. I suggest the latter. If yes, then we move it to the bottom of the page.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:42, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Sure, I’m fine with that. PatrickW | talk 06:43, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

@Galaxy: I have deleted the overarching SUL which now makes the SUL available. If you merge any existing accounts you should be able to get the SUL, then we can move or merge other named accounts into place.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:43, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Time2wait.svg On hold awaiting the global account merge tool. --Stryn (talk) 06:30, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

All unattached accounts will be renamed during the SUL finalization. Please, just wait. Ruslik (talk) 17:58, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
to make explicit what was implicit in the previous answer. You hold the SUL account for Gnome and will continue to hold that after full globalisation, where the unattached accounts will be renamed, thus allowing you to have the Gnome username on all wikis. I have added a task to merge Gghonghadze to Gnome which we can undertake after the globalisation process to unite those accounts. With regard to uploading images, is that at Commons or enWP? The upload ability comes with autoconfirmed accounts which comes with time, or by having someone push the right, please confirm on my meta user talk page where you would like that right granted.
