This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request.

This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions[edit]

SUL finalization[edit]

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically be named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

What illusions have we made? We simply said that the identity of the person making the request could not be guaranteed, that's all, we work according to the policies, for the protection of users and the project and we cannot do favors or exceptions for anyone. We told you to contact T&S to recover the account and you didn't want! If we cannot confirm who is making the requests, we cannot process them, it would have been easier to follow the suggestions rather of making useless arguments. @Plumbum208, Ternarius, and Yger: First of all, since the user is currently blocked (with also a log of blocks) on svwiki, I'll ping the blocking admin to know if there are some oppositions to the vanish, or if this could be a problem for them. I'm so sorry, Superpes15 for this late answer, I must have missed your pings entiredly. We have had a lot of problems with Abecesel in the past, complicated by the fact that the user compleatly refuses to discuss their behaviour. Instead Abecesel has written and mailed complaints to many of Swedish Wikipedia's admins, including me, both on Swedish Wikipedia and here on Meta. It has stopped now, but I have a concern that Abecesel will start again, if they are given a new, not immediately recognizable name. I contributed ~33 thousand to the project. Only ~100 of them are on the Swedish Wikipedia and most of these contributions were in answer to discussions about me. The first blocking was because I was using the move tool to create redirects from long names to articles. I used a translation tool because the messages from the discussions on this topic are in Swedish. You could see that I made the same redirect-move contributions to other language Wikipedias. Your second and final block was because I didn't want to archive my message page. At that time, I was contributing to undo vandalism globally using a rollback tool. I wanted to edit my message page on every other language Wikipedia. I explained to you that what I want to do is not to archive, I just want to make a navigation bar, and I gave examples from other Wikipedias. For example, when I want to archive there should be such a link: sv:användardiskussion:Abecesel/diskussionarkiv/2022/a. You can see the example on the Turkish Wikipedia: tr:Kullanıcı_mesaj:Abecesel/mesajarşivi → tr:Kullanıcı_mesaj:Abecesel/mesajarşivi/2022/a. The administrator User:EstrellaSuecia understood what I was saying and we kindly closed the issue. However, another user continued editing my message page. User:Ternarius has been wanting me blocked since the first block. Therefore, despite all my explanations, he accepted a complaint created by the user who edited my message page and he blocked me. I understand and respect the rules of the Swedish Wikipedia. However, these blocks were unnecessary. It should be noted that these blocks were given at a time when Turkey did not want Sweden in NATO. The concern mentioned above is unreasonable because I could always edit Swedish Wikipedia with a different user or IP address, I would never do such a thing.   • Reason: Hello! I’m initiating a project aimed at raising awareness among French universities about publishing content on Wikipedia/Wikiversity projects. To set an example, I will soon be publishing all the copyright-free content in the field of music and audiovisual that I have created throughout my years of pedagogical and didactic practice. Before launching this project, I would like to unify my digital identity across the various pedagogical and didactic projects in which I am involved. I have noticed that the username "Grandsire" (which corresponds to my last name) is already in use on the global wiki. I understand that this involves changing the username of an existing account. However, I have noticed that this user has been inactive for several years now. I personally contacted him on his discussion page a few days ago to convey my request. I am unsure if he has been notified of my message. That is why I am making this request. I am also aware that using a real name is not recommended under Wikipedia's privacy policy. However, I intend to edit only content related to musicology and audiovisual material used in my academic practice, and not any controversial content. I hope that my request will be met with a positive response. Best regards
