Superprotect letter update[edit]

Hi Krd,

Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.

Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.

I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.

Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.

Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.

Thank you for your engagement on this issue, and please stay in touch. -Pete F (talk) 18:31, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

OTRS admin[edit]

I've been busy lately due to the holidays, but I see you've been promoted as an OTRS admin. Congrats! Face-smile.svg Trijnsteltalk 12:36, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. Promotion is nothing but the permission to do even more work. :) --Krd 14:35, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Krd. I was pointed by -revi to contact you regarding this thread I've opened in our VP. We're doing file cleanup here at Meta, but once files are deleted, the red links stay in the pages until somebody manually removes them. I was wondering if you could be so kind to run your service in this project too. If yes, I think we all would be very happy. Currently the number of pages with red file links has 1,000+ pages. Thanks in advance for your answer and please allow me to send you seasonal greetings as well. Best regards, -- M\A 21:49, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Unlink files on local deletion log, unlink files on Commons deletion log, or remove all file redlinks regardless of their origin (which is usually more then 1+2)? In which namespaces? --Krd 08:39, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Krd. Thanks for your reply. For now I had in mind just parsing our local deletion log and then removing those links. However I also think that it'd be good if all red links could be removed regardless their origin. For files from commons, CommonsDelinker seems to be working for now here at Meta. Best regards. -- M\A 18:21, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok. As said at en:User talk:Krd#Filedelinkerbot, I'd like to rewrite some parts of the code first, which I hope to be done until end of January. --Krd 08:19, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Summary: It has been request to run this bot for local unlinks at metawiki, kowiki and hewiki. Implementation sadly is delayed due to tasks of higher prio. I try to give it a start at metawiki within February 2015. --Krd 03:37, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

No problem with kowiki delayed, (local upload is restricted to uploaders and sysops only, and uploaders are chosen manually) but if possible please delink already-existing broken filelinks. — Revi 04:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
@-revi: I made some test edits, please verify at ko:특수:기여/Filedelinkerbot --Krd 15:13, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
@ערן: hewiki is ready for testing, too. --Krd 18:05, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Krd, thank you. Would it be possible to run it for a limited run (50 edits or 3 days) on hewiki? thanks, eranroz (talk) 19:19, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
There are three options: a) local deletions b) commons deletions c) removing file redlinks regardless of their origin. Which shall be activated? --Krd 21:14, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
For now only b. Thanks, eranroz (talk) 22:50, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Activated now, please keep an eye on the bot's contributions. --Krd 22:54, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Looks fine, please set editsummary to 봇: 존재하지 않는 파일 (filename) 삭제 and open a BRFA. Local crat will handle it soon. — regards, Revi 17:15, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
I changed the edit summary now. Can I please ask you to create the BRFA for me? I cannot even read the letters, and I'm not sure I could handle it correctly. Thank you! --Krd 17:33, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

OTRS flag for Zache[edit]

Hello, I noticed that User:Zache is not a member of the OTRS global group yet, although his name was deleted from the volunteering page. However User:Makele-90 who was deleted from the list at the same time got the flag. Zache didn't get approved or you just forget to request the flag for him? --Stryn (talk) 06:22, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Stryn. There are some other possibilities, e.g. he has been accepted but the acceptance process is not complete, or he has been accepted but doesn't have access to the permissions queues and doesn't need the global flag. For ANON reasons I'm not going to disclose which is the case here, but thank you for the reminder. --Krd 07:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Of course, thank you. Stryn (talk) 09:06, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, i sent my real name and other information today morning so things was pending because that. --Zache (talk

Hi Minh Huy. Although we are not in a hurry I'm going to request it shortly. --Krd 14:52, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information by 31 December[edit]

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

Wikimedia Foundation logo - vertical (2012-2016).svg

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_) Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your OTRS access. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Krd Hi , Sorry, I do not speak English and used a translator to write.

I guess I was confused with the signing of OTRS Users Confidentiality Agreement - Nonpublic Information and for some reason did not send.

Yesterday talk to GVarnum - WMF By explaining the problem and returned to phabricator, to try to verify finally I signed the document.

Now he says: You signed this document on Sun, Jan 3, 6:10 PM.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused but I had several tickets which had saved in tracking.

As your system Note withdraw me , you think I may request to activate again as OTRS agent . I appreciate your help very much.

Hi grin. Your OTRS access is still open, although the access to the info and permissions roles has been removed regarding the OTRS/Activity policy, as announce by email at Fri Dec 25 09:00:26 2015 and Fri Mar 25 08:42:29 2016.
Thanks. This is weird since I believe I have been answering some tickets in the last 6 months, and I do not see any sign of the email. Apart from reapplying (which I'd appreciate getting done since there's a ticket waiting for me) I'd like your help to track down those emails. Which address/method have you used or what was the sender/from of these emails? Thank you. --grin 10:17, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Notifying German Wikipedia about cross-wiki/interwiki search results[edit]

Hello again, Krd. Aside from the OTRS mess, I wonder whether you can help me translate the below draft for de:Wikipedia:Projektdiskussion. I want to notify the community about the cross-wiki search results going live.

Hello, community of German Wikipedia. For notification, the search results from the following sister projects—Wikivoyage, Wikiversity, Wikinews, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and multimedia results from Wikimedia Commonsare now implemented and live. Simply type either "Deutschland" or "Berlin", and you'll see the results. Neither Wikispecies nor Wikidata is included at the moment, but including the search results from those projects are considered. Please feel free to share your thoughts. You may propose which sister project to include or exclude. Thank you.

I would like your opinions on the above draft for improvements please before posting the German translation. Thanks. --George Ho (talk) 00:30, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

OTRS access[edit]

Hello. I applied for OTRS access on 11 Sept 2017. Afterwards, I received the email reply on 19 Sept 2017 which list out a request for me to sign the confidentiality agreement. OTRS graph[edit]

Hi, is very useful but I've never ever been able to find info-it, whose colour is to my eye practically identical to half a dozen others. Is there some easy way to make it more readable? I've looked for a way to make areas dashed/dotted in various ways but I didn't quickly find one. for 38 colours seems to produce a better set than the current (when selecting "all colours"), could it be worth trying? --Nemo 19:53, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

I have now changed the palette. Although it definitely looks ugly, perhaps its better readable this way. Another approach could be to split the graphs for the small info queues into two or three images. Whatever you suggest.--Krd 07:40, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
Hm yes, maybe better now but I'm not sure. Splitting the graph in three is definitely the best solution, because making 38 colours distinguishable is an almost impossible task (up to 8 it's easy; around 20, most systems give up). But I don't want to add to your maintenance burden! --Nemo 09:04, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
I will revert the change and split the graphs (actually create additional split graphs) as soon as possible. May take some days due to holiday. --Krd 21:21, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Dear Kdr, I don't understand why you have requested the removal of my access as a global OTRS member. Could you point out the reasons? Regards, Banfield - Reclamos aquí 12:03, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Same for me. Perhaps I missed something (how to sign the CA). Zetud (talk) 12:15, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
Done, I've signed. Can you please restore my access? Zetud (talk) 12:28, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Congratulations, Krd! You now have the rights of an administrator on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-adminconnect. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta. Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List of administrators and the Template:List of administrators. You're also allowed to subscribe the metawiki admins private mailing list (to confirm your subscription please email me using the Special:EmailUser function). Again, congratulations and welcome to the team. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:46, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

... why do you have approve me from none to autopatroled? Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker (talk) 10:51, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

I'm sorry. If there is anything against I'm happy to revert that. Please advise. --Krd 12:27, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
I accept your excuses. But the reason why I asked why you approved me from none to autopatroled was because there's no other wiki that trust me as example file mover (my CA and archived discussion). Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker (talk) 14:59, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
I have now reverted that. Again, sorry for the trouble. --Krd 15:06, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Template:Access to nonpublic personal data policy signed ‎ [edit]

You should normalize the username (preferably also automatically normalize it in {{Sr-request}}): replace _ to space and make the first letter uppercase. The list currently have a username not normalized (mys 721tx).--GZWDer (talk) 17:30, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello. I think this is done now. Correction follows with the next update. --Krd 17:46, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Closing of OTRS account[edit]

Hi! I was pinged twice here and saw no discussion on the issue. It's true I haven't been very active lately as an OTRS volunteer, so maybe it was for the best. But normally when people are pinged, one's input is welcome. Not here, it seems. And now I can't even access this linked page, as my OTRS account has been closed. That was a bit interesting.

Well, if my (infrequent) help isn't needed anymore, be it. That gives me more time for my other projects at svwp, cawp, WD and Commons. All the best. Face-smile.svg--Paracel63 (talk) 12:46, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Dear Paracel63, your account has been closed per OTRS/Activity policy at 11 Apr, and you have been pinged by e-mail at Mar 29 and Apr 2. --Krd 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
OK, I can see this archived page (still no active discussion). Those pinging e-mails must have got lost in the traffic. Now I leave all this behind me, as I've completely lost interest in the issue.--Paracel63 (talk) 12:59, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I would like to edit a locked page in the czech wiktionary, unfortunately I can't edit it - it is locked. Thank you for your help. --Hwwo (talk) 07:51, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Please advise which kind of help is requested. --Krd 07:57, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
I am not autoconfirmed user, therefore I can't edit it. --Hwwo (talk) 07:59, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
You will usually be autoconfirmed 4 days after account creation. --Krd 08:01, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
But I would like to edit that article today. --Hwwo (talk) 08:05, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
In the meantime, you can assign me confirmed user rights for a few days or weeks? --Hwwo (talk) 08:13, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Krd. You may want to check out Schleewoon's first edit after you unlocked their account. Added a link to, the site they were locked by Sotiale for spamming in first place. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:20, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the notice. In the current case this is a reference, which we require for Wikipedia articles. I don't see anything wrong with that, in case the reference supports the relevant article section. If I'm mistaken please advise. --Krd 06:04, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
The sole purpose of this account has been to add links to a commercial rafting guide, to eight different projects and counting. The obvious intent is to drive traffic to the site, or improve its search engine ranking. I don't know the local policy, but en:WP:REFSPAM is still spam. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:48, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
I understand your point, but I cannot see spam in a single edit, which also has already been reverted. --Krd 06:10, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Permissions on Wiki[edit]

Hello, can you help me request some user groups to be added to the Wiki i am in. The only usergroup in sw.wiktionary is IP block exception, I don’t know any thing on phab and how to create tasks e.t.c. Since its a dictionary Autopatrolled Rollbacker, Mover and Patroller . I have already discussed with the only active user. Cheers Synoman Barris (talk) 10:49, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

If you are the only active user, what is that needed for? I suggest to delay this until there is an active community. --Krd 11:35, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

OTRS member caught as a meatpuppet of a global banned user[edit]

Greetings Krd,

Recently, this user here was recently blocked in (see here) because he admitted to do edits and not block socks of the global banned User:Quintinense. Following this block discussion, the community has decided to desysop him and, due the implications of an user doing "favors" to a globally banned user, I've requested the global block of his account.

For your knowledge

Regards. --EVinente (talk) 21:26, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello. This has now been handled. --Krd 07:00, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Krd, I wanted to know how do we apply for autopatroller permissions on Meta? I'm a leading member of the Dehalvi Wikimedia User Group, and mainly edit on English Wikipedia where I'm an AfC, NPP and pending changes reviewer. Having the autopatrolled status could help me a lot and would reduce the pressure on regular patrollers. I understand related meta policies. May you grant me this flag? Thank you! ─ The Aafī (talk) 19:19, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure what is the most correct way for that request, but I've set this now for you. --Krd 07:45, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Infobox template[edit]

Hi there! I kinda need a help of adding legal status in the Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia infobox. I did add it but seems like it doesn't appear there and I'm not sure if it have relations with the translate code in the template. Can you help me adding them? I'd like to add in the template about the group as non-governmental organization and also it's registration number. Please let me know if you could. Thank you. WAqil (WMYS) (talk) 03:19, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Sadly I don't yet get what you like to achieve, please provide more details. --Krd 07:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Can I request autopatrolled here? BlackWidowMovie0 (talk) 16:22, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

You can, but I refuse that. For another opinion feel free to request at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. --Krd 16:30, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

About Global IP block Exempt[edit]

Almost all my VPN's ip was blocked globally and it is really more difficult for me to edit Wikimedia projects. I am really sorry for abusing several accounts on the Simple Wikipedia. I promise I won't that anymore and I would rather make good changes. Could you give me this permission again? Or until I was unblocked on Simple Wikipedia? Thanks. Matttest (talk) 02:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

I think it's obvious that we cannot provide a block exemption to users with abuse history. --Krd 06:56, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
How about if a user won't abuse anymore and rather make good changes? I am sorry to disturb you, but I could not edit wikimedia projects anymore when my VPN's ip was all blocked.--Matttest (talk) 01:20, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Please feel free to request at: Steward requests/Global permissions#Requests for global IP block exemption and/or appeal your existing block. --Krd 10:55, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
