Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests

If your rename request requires no stewardship, you have two options:

  1. Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed. Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

فلورانس@global

@فلورانس: The requested username is already registered, see Florence. Please pick a new name. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:42, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
hi dear K6ka This user only in pl.wiki only Only Contribution 26 edit from year 2005 , you can rename Florence in pl.wiki to --> Florence2 and rename all my username to Florence thanks --Florence (talk) 19:59, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@فلورانس: Accounts are now global, so renames are performed globally (across all Wikimedia projects). Also, do keep in mind that while there is no official usurpation policy, a proposed draft has been written, and under that draft the target user would have to be notified. The target user must also have either no edits or only deleted edits, which is not the case here. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:55, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@فلورانس: I agree with k6ka. We can't usurp the account in question. --Steinsplitter (talk) 19:05, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dear @Steinsplitter: and @K6ka:, we can send email to pl:w:User:Florence he is not active in wiki from 11 years old, i,m only need this user name , plz help Florence (talk) 20:44, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I'll reiterate on the The target user must also have either no edits or only deleted edits, which is not the case here. part. We simply can't usurp this user, as they have made useful contributions. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:58, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not done --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:48, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global and requests should be signed by both the source (from) and target (to) user accounts.

Hitch Hicking Across Sahara@global

I want to request Usurpation or take over. I have already notified the user. Hitch Hicking Across Sahara (talk) 10:01, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
HIAS's editcount is zero. He is inactive since 17 April 2013 and carries just one local account on de.wikipedia.org . Hitch Hicking Across Sahara (talk) 10:01, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please notify the user about your request (even if he has never edited). --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:09, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per usurpation policy you don't have enough edits to request a usurp. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:13, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
See i am a regular editor with multiple good edits,Is there any other way ? Hitch Hicking Across Sahara (talk) 09:22, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
IMO, we can grant this request because the other user has no edits (after the due notification, assuming he/she won't object). — Yerpo Eh? 10:54, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have already notified the target user on his talk page (User talk:HIAS). Hitch Hicking Across Sahara (talk) 14:11, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, as far as I'm concerned, please ping us after one week. — Yerpo Eh? 14:57, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yerpo: in general we wait for one month. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:00, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry, wasn't up to date with this guideline. — Yerpo Eh? 06:41, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yerpo: @Steinsplitter: One weak is over, Can you do it now ? Hitch Hicking Across Sahara (talk) 04:20, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AstroNomer@global

No template because this is an unusual request....

en:User:AstroNomer was one of the original Wikipedians in 2001. As with some others of the same vintage, he never got around to claiming the SUL for the name, and his account was renamed to en:User:AstroNomer~enwiki. The SUL was taken by someone in Russia (ru:User:AstroNomer), but that account has been permanently blocked since 2009 for being some kind of shared account.

It's not right that there is now no user on the English Wikipedia called AstroNomer. So, I'm putting this out there as a speculative request: how about reassigning the SUL from the useless Russian account, and renaming his account to what it was before? The Russian account was never used to edit on any other projects (Special:CentralAuth/AstroNomer) so has no need of the SUL per se. I realize this request implies that the blocked account would need renaming (presumably to "AstroNomer~ruwiki"), and that renaming an account after the fact, and a blocked one at that, may even be unprecedented. But it strikes me that the original AstroNomer has about an inarguable a claim to deserving the name as you can get. That's bolstered by the fact that the operators of the Russian account forfeited their right to edit by making a serious contravention of Russian Wikipedia policy. This is in contrast to the many users that lost their chosen name despite having done nothing wrong (just being away a while).

Basically, as a mark of respect for one of the founding members of our entire project, I'm asking that a special, out of process decision - an adjudication is possibly the word - be made to do the Right Thing, and give AstroNomer his name back on enwiki. What say you? Many thanks. — Scott talk 14:51, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This requires a consent of the original account owner. Ruslik (talk) 16:28, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've requested that of him via an email and talk page message. As he hasn't edited in over a year it may take a while to hear anything, but when I do I'll report so here with a link back to this discussion. — Scott talk 14:41, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Closing this as not done for now. User can file a new request. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:45, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Snorre@global

Could you please add some details on which (local?) accounts you want renamed? Regards, Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 16:03, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
From what I can remember, it was Ze Germans (de) that stopped me from getting a SUL. I don't even know its relevanse any more... Snorre (talk) 16:38, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
After the SUL finalization process, all users have SUL. You have a de.wiki account according to CentralAuth. Is there anything else you want fixed / changed? --Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 16:42, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy if it's already automagically fixed. Snorre (talk) 16:46, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Great, marking this as not done (nothing to do). --Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 16:49, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
