Global rollback for Styyx

Hello all! I'm mostly active on the Turkish Wikipedia, where I have patroller rights. I've been monitoring small (and some custom) wikis with SWViewer in the recent months, mostly reverting vandalism on simplewiki, nlwiki and Turkic projects, but certainly not limited to only these. GR will help a lot with combating xwiki vandalism. Thanks! ~StyyxTalk? ^-^ 12:56, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

- Weak oppose There are a lot of great wikis on top of contributions and few on SW. Finally, you make more contributions where you are already a rollbacker. You can use SWViewer, but if it's not to patrol the SWs and only do the usual projects, I don't see the point. In addition, your SW contributions are quite recent. —Eihel (talk) 11:33, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- I didn't fully get what you meant, but I'll try to respond. I've indeed used SWV for patrolling on trwiki. Trwiki accounts for more than 95% of the 1100 rollbacks I've done with SWV. However, I also have almost 700 undo's from wikis where I don't have rollback, like nlwiki, azwiki, tkwiki, afwiki and more, for a few months now. Is it better to request rollback separately on all of these projects or to request for GR? ~StyyxTalk? ^-^ 13:07, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Global rename for Ulubatli Hasan

Hello everybody. I'd like to request global rename permission to assist rename request and my main focus would be urwiki where I'm serving as a eliminator since september 2020 (voting). I've been assisting admins since I became eliminator on ur wiki and saving pages from vandalism. I'm requesting this flag because there is no global renamer on ur wiki that's why we often face issues and had directed users to request on meta for renaming. Thank you... Hasan (talk) 02:43, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Comment What's an eliminator? Never heard of that... Then I'll choose on whether to support or not. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 13:08, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
- (Edit: Per below clarification, I will Oppose this as the lack of sysop rights on a content project. The reason I'm opposing because of lack of sysop rights is because if they have all the rights of an admin, why aren't they an admin yet? SHB2000 (talk | contibs))
- I suppose this is a group which allows for actions related to page deletion, but not other admin permissions. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 14:09, 7 September 2021 (UTC) - SHB2000 I think Eliminator gives every admin task except giving rights to users and renaming. I have deleted/undeleted, protected/unprotected, blocked/unblocked. It also allows user (who has this flag) to edit protected pages on admin level or protect pages on admin level. Hasan (talk) 15:38, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
- Giving rights to users is for bureaucrats (but some rights can be given by admins) and renaming users is only for global renamers. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 22:25, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
- I suppose this is a group which allows for actions related to page deletion, but not other admin permissions. ~~~~
- Weak support While this is not full adminship, I still think that the eliminator user group shows enough trust already – unlike a similar flag on ruwiki, this one allows for blocking as well, and it don't seem like there are too many important permissions missing from the admin toolset. ~~~~

- Support: urwiki's eliminator user group basically is sysop except for the ability to change rights. With the three core tools of the set, blocking, protecting and deleting, a part of the group, I can treat the eliminator group as being equivalent to sysop, satisfying my main criterion for renamer. Additionally, the lack of renamers on urwiki would be further grounds to grant the requestor renamer rights. JavaHurricane 11:26, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

- Neutral. Eliminator is so called granted by sysops after a vote, which makes the user trusted in their local community. However, I do not see there is a need for another renamer from ur (if I recall correctly there is one already), is the load from ur that great? I am not saying there is a lack of trust but is there a sustained need. Do correct me if I am wrong and will be happy to support. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:33, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Camouflaged Mirage, I didn't know that. Before making request I checked every admins global flag but I didn't find anyone who has global renamer user group. Could you please name him? Thanks Hasan (talk) 08:12, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Ulubatli Hasan Hello, what I mean is that there is already a renamer who claims they can understand ur per this list and is there any big backlogs coming from ur which the global queue system is unable to clear. I am all for someone who have unique language skills, but my thinking is that is there a need for one more user holding a flag if the load isn't that high in the first place? Just my thoughts. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:51, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Camouflaged Mirage I'm thinking the same too. If Ulubatli Hasan is trusted enough with the tools of a sysop kit, then why are they not a sysop? It's something that has got me concerned that we're missing something here. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 09:39, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- SHB2000 I've not applied adminship because of previous two nominations (first and second) where users (mostly admins) have rejected both nominations saying that there is no need for more admins. (edit: I've never applied for adminship. Both nominations are of different users).. Hasan (talk) 13:34, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- There shouldn't be such restrictions for admins. Only 'crats. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 22:48, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- And on your second adminship nom, google translate gives me: The user does not currently meet admin standards. . That's a clear no. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 22:52, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- @SHB2000: You are misunderstanding I think, the nomination they linked are of different users and I think they meant to say that as those two other user got no support from current admins, it implied to them that there's no need for more admins, so they never applied. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 05:30, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

- Support These eliminator rights contain the key admin tools: block, protect and delete. Quite a few global renamers rename users who may need a rename after a block. The other tools involved in the admin toolkit (abuse filter, user rights etc.) aren't as relevant to what a global renamer actually does. So whilst Ulubatli Hasan doesn't have "sysop" rights, and therefore may not fulfill some people's criteria, the experience in other sysop areas is not/not as relevant to the global renamer rights, so I am supporting. --Ferien (talk) 19:33, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello! I'd like to request global rename permissions to help users in renaming their accounts. I'm mostly active on the Ukrainian Wikipedia, and I'm active sysop and checkuser there. I am an active fighter against vandalism and often come across names violating our local and global policies, so these rights will help me to fight vandalism more effectively. --Mykola7 (talk) 21:07, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Strong support Mykola7 is not only a sysop but a CU on ukwiki. There's no reason why not, not to forget, it'll be nice to have more renamers who know Cyrillic. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 22:13, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Just as a note, saying "know Cyrillic" is like "know the Latin alphabet". If you don't know the exact language something is written in, it usually doesn't help. ~~~~

- Hello @Mykola7. May I ask, how do you think being able to rename users would help you to fight vandalism more effectively? Thanks, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:43, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- MarcoAurelio, hello. We have a very active vandal in UkWiki, he creates accounts similar to active users with various obscenities in the name, so the ability to rename will help remove these obscenities after blocking. --Mykola7 (talk) 20:59, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Mykola7: Thanks for your reply. I am sorry but you should never rename an account with an abusive username as it only makes things worse. The abusive username will be replicated in the rename logs of ukwiki, Meta-Wiki and the whole lot of different wikis where the account ever registered. It'll also show up in page move logs if user and/or user talk pages were moved in the process; hence the abusive username will be more and more exposed and therefore more difficult to hide. Blatant attack usernames intended to denigrate, threaten, libel, insult, or harass someone should be suppressed instead either locally or globally. Further, forcibly renaming someone's account without their consent is not allowed by the global rename policy but for usurpations if they meet the requirements (or there's consent from the account). I am sorry but I cannot support this request if you want to use them for the stated anti-vandalism purpose. Sorry, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:25, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- MarcoAurelio, I meant more if the vandal went beyond one wiki, if only in one, then the usual concealment is enough. All the same, not only for such I need these rights, first of all for the help in renaming. --Mykola7 (talk) 21:31, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. I am sorry but it does not matter if the vandal is local or multi-wiki, the result is always the same: once you rename an account the abusive username will be spread all over the individual wiki logs and histories, and the Meta-Wiki global rename log. Trying to hide that later can become a real headache as there's no way to do so in one click. The more wikis the vandal is registered, the worse the problem becomes. Global rename is not a tool to fight vandalism. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:39, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- I'm understood. Thanks. --Mykola7 (talk) 21:46, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Mykola7 Can I get an assurance that you won't use the rename tool ever for this purpose. If so I will have no issues supporting you. Thank you for volunteering anyway.
