Hi all, I am Osama Eid, editor and rollback on the Arabic Wikipedia, I have permissions on the English and Spanish Wikipedia and I have permissions on the Azerbaijani and Russian Wikipedia. I do against vandalism In Quechua Wikipedia. And I have rollback permission for Wikidata. I translate in Meta.

I started on Wikipedia 5 years ago. My primary role is to fight vandalism on all Wikimedia projects. I aspire to have a global rollback permission, to help me combat vandalism and help me keep going. I will be the first Arab to obtain this permission. Thanks for your consideration.--Osps7 (talk) 11:58, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

  • Comment Comment Hi Osps7 and thanks for volunteering! The global rollback permission - even if useful globally - is primarily meant for patrolling in small wikis, where filters and captchas often don't allow you to undo vandalisms and there aren't many active local users, and the rollback button makes it easier to undo a series of vandalisms. I suggest you get some experience by joining the SWMT and maybe using tools like SWViewer that make global patrolling much easier and then you could re-applying for the GR flag when you have gained more experience on global patrolling. Best :) --Superpes15 (talk) 12:52, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Good afternoon! My name is Arman! I am from a small kaawiki project, I participate in different wikis, I see many edits which is considered vandalism and I think I must participate in the projects as a rollbacker, there is a small project that needs protection of vandalism, I ask you to give rights to the global rollbacker! I am ready to participate in all projects.— The preceding unsigned comment was added by QRNKS (talk) Not ending before 5 January 2023 07:25 UTC

Global IP block exempt for ProofRobust

I am requesting global IP exemption as one of the networks I use to edit is under a global block. I already have the local version of this right on the English Wikipedia which has been very helpful. I am an active editor of Wikisource (zh.wikisource.org) in China and I am writing to apply for GIPBE for editing with proxies. I had been accessing Wikisource via IPv6 with no problem till recently the Great Firewall blocked my network requests randomly. I tried proxies but was told edits via proxies are prohibited. I believe GIPBE is beneficial for me to continue editing on Wikisource. Thanks in advance.— The preceding unsigned comment was added by DuckSoft (talk)

Global rename for Kadı

Not ending before 10 December 2022 16:34 UTC

Hello, I am Kadı. I serve as an administrator on Commons and TrWikivoyage. Also, I am working cross-wiki, I know and read the policies, so I want to help global renamers. Sincerely,--Kadı Message 16:34, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

@MdsShakil:, I am planning to evaluate renaming requests. Also, I will be active here. --Kadı Message 17:19, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
@Kadı: Sorry? Didn't get what you mean with that. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 08:35, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
@1997kB, [9] Kadı Message 09:00, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose I can support you in any Turkish projects, as I did before, but I can't support you in global ones. As pointed out by @1997kB, I'd like to clarify his last block which is completely tragic. One of the Turkish Wikipedia administrators was concerned about Kadı's potential COI edits and contacted him privately, explaining that there are a few concerns based on Wikipedia's basic policies—such as NPOV—on articles written by Kadı, in absolute good faith. However, Kadı claimed that the administrator violated the child protection policy. After the VRT review and their decision, there has been no proof that his claim is valid, and he was blocked for six months for harassment. This happened in January 2022.
I don't want to see the same tragic case again, and I am sure I will not, but I share 1997kB's concerns. I cannot support this nomination. --Victor Trevor (talk) 12:44, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
I'll give the same answer to you which I have given to 1997kB in my previous reply. I am volunteering to serve for community, I will not criticise your vote but I want to see new examples after the block. Blocks are not criminal records of users, administrators are not judges, Wikimedia projects are not palace of justice. I wrote these in order to explain myself better, I know your good faith @Victor Trevor, and I do not have any problem with your opposing vote, my aim is not changing your ideas etc. Thanks, Kadı Message 13:20, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
  • Support Support --Can (talk) 13:28, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
  • In addition to the concerns raised by others given your block history on the Turkish Wikipedia, it seems (from machine translation at least) that you had engaged in sockpuppeting in the past (i.e, using multiple accounts against the policy). You'll need to explain this. Also, justifying alleged harassment by essentially saying that everyone makes mistakes is not the way to go. Leaderboard (talk) 17:04, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
@Leaderboard, I am not saying my attitude is correct, you can ask questions about sockpuppetry, I will answer them. Best, Kadı Message 17:21, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
@Kadı: Then answer my questions (to reiterate, I have asked you to explain your sockpuppetry history, amongst others). Leaderboard (talk) 19:59, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
@Leaderboard, Well, two years ago, I joined WP for creating my grand-dad’s article, (Kamil Tolon) he was notable but an Afd process started for the article. Then, I created accounts and voted in Afd. I was a newbie so I do not know anything about sockpuppetry. After that, administrators blocked me indefinitely. Then, I apologized and they unblocked me. That’s all about sockpuppetry. If you have question marks after this reply, please feel free to ask me again. Kadı Message 20:16, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
@Kadı:, what about the harassment claims (as per 1997kb's query)? Leaderboard (talk) 19:08, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
@Leaderboard, In trwiki, we didn't have a local policy for CoI, by the reason of this I did not have any chance to learn it. Trwiki admin, emailed me about that (I will not give more information about the email as it is not shared to everyone.) Then, misunderstandings occured, trwiki admin (Seksen iki yüz kırk beş) asked all of them in good faith, but with the lack of CoI policy, I didn't understand him well, and then I complained about him. I wouldn't want to repeat these things here because I do not think it is appropriate to mention the relevant admin's name with these issues again. You can find more information here, and you can see my apologize here.
After these, I translated CoI policy and now it is one of the official policies of trwiki. Kadı Message 19:19, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
I was the one who rewrote (the article) in accordance with the policies, so that the it would not be deleted. As a witness to that sockpuppetry process, I confirm that Kadı was a newbie at that time. As can be seen from the substance history, I was the first to warn him about sockpuppetry here, and I can confirm that he didn't know why it was forbidden to vote more than once while he was voting here. Kadı wanted to upvote more than once as some new users did, found out it was wrong, never voted like that again (as I witnessed). Thecatcherintherye (talk) 19:53, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
First of all, the COI policy basically doesn't say anything different from basic policies like NPOV, which is the main concern in your tragedy.
Second, you already knew what COI is. Considering your main motivation for Wikipedia at that time and the fact that a Turkish Wikipedia administrator, Vito Genovese, referred to the term in a discussion in which you were involved, there wasn't a way not to figure it out. --Victor Trevor (talk) 23:06, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for explanation but I find it hard to believe that it was merely an issue of not aware of CoI policy. Firstly you were blocked on 20 August 2021 for personal attacks and then again on 27 January 2022 for harrasment. How do you explain this repeated offense? ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:32, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
@1997kB, sorry, I saw your comment after withdrawing my request but I felt the need for explaining it. It was about Leaply ( Victor Trevor’s friend), Leaply banned for being the sock of a troll, II. Niveles. Before the last case, I said that Leaply is a sock of II. Niveles, after that Vincent Vega banned me. Then 3 months later, my claim was confirmed by CU. Regards, Kadı Message 06:44, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Global rights come with a large degree of trust and see pushback from local communities at the best of times; we should never be granting them in situations where they would give access on a home project that the candidate would clearly not be trusted with at this time. – Ajraddatz (talk) 21:59, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

  • I'm here to share my thoughts about the user for those who don't know anything about the user. User Kadı has been active on wiki-projects (starting from Turkish Wikipedia) for about 2 years. He did some mistakes at the beginning and got sanctioned after. I personally helped and supported the user during all this process and I can clearly say that, he is learning from his mistakes and tries not to repeat. So, my personnal comment about him: He is a user in good faith, has a knowledge about the policies (both domestic and global) and practical experience. For these reasons, I would like to say that he can use this authority in accordance with the policies. With being aware of sanctions that the had during the past, I believe that he will not repeat his mistakes. In order not to cause misunderstandings, I will not vote and stay neutral, but I wanted to express my comments. I leave the decision to Meta-community. CAPTCHA exempt for Unite together

Nowadays I'm repairing errors appearing in citation templates on various wikis where I haven’t edited before. Almost all of those templates contain external links. When repairing these errors on ptwiki, I kept encountering CAPTCHAs for no edits before (not autoconfirmed). Therefore here I'm requesting CAPTCHA exempt for my global account. Thanks in advance. -- U.T. 02:22, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

@Unite together ptwiki requires a minimum number of edits to become confirmed there, you can request that they bypass this for you at w:pt:Ajuda:Tire suas dúvidas. — xaosflux Talk 17:12, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
@Xaosflux However I'd like to repair citations on other wikis as well later. I don’t want to request on each sites one-by-one. -- U.T. 17:21, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
Try Krinkle's tool: Global SUL (it did fail for me when I tried the other day, so can't tell if it is working right now though. It will take care of the account creations, which for 99% of projects will lead to autoconfirm. — xaosflux Talk 18:35, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
I have tried it today, this script didn't work at all. Lemonaka (talk) 01:51, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
But what if a site also requires minimum edit count? Then creating a local account and waiting for several days cannot make it autoconfirmed. Let alone the script no longer works. -- U.T. 01:57, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
  • I don't think this a good idea. Unless they are very specific about what they want to do with it, I am not going to support bypassing local restrictions. Citation templates are widely used, and understanding of the language is essential in many cases before trying to fix them. If the fix is large scale, the community needs to be notified (normally bots are preferred for those fixes).--BRP ever 09:40, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Well, @BRPever, I'm going to fix those errors about invalid DOIs, ISBNs and malformed archive links. For example, some of templates has erroneous DOIs which cannot point to original journals. While I don’t read some languages, it’s still possible to find the original document itself and update its DOI inside templates (as one citation often contains ID in multiple systems, say, when DOI is invalid, its correct ISBN/OCLC is very likely to be available). These tasks don’t really involve languages itself. -- U.T. 11:01, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
  • I've reviewed some of the user's recent contributions, and don't see any errors or mistakes. I would encourage stewards to be relatively generous in granting low-risk permissions where they might aid volunteer efforts, even just by removing some red tape. – Ajraddatz (talk) 17:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
  • +1 to BRPever concerns, I will think this right should not be needed as community approval will be desirable. I am all for users to be given rights to help communities, but I don't want people to see meta overarching into local processes. For those which need edit counts, I think they aren't that much and if we are running scripts across wikis, they ideally need to be on SRB on Global bots or similar. Sorry I know this is a good faith request, but I am thinking involving local communities might be a better approach than here. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:48, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
This discussion has been open for a month now, with no real consensus about how this should work out. I'm going to decline granting for now without prejudice to a new application. -- Amanda (she/her) 19:16, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Autopattrolled rights for YIEWI

Can I get Autopattrolled rights and it's already one month and also I understand Meta policies and guidelines, thanks, -- YIEWI talk 13:12, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

This is the page for global permissions, you are probably looking for a local right that you can request at RFH. --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:28, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
@YIEWI there is no such global group. For requesting autopatrolled here on the meta-wiki, please post at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. For other projects, you will need to ask them locally. Is there anything else you need here at this time? — xaosflux Talk 14:15, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
