I can speak, read, and write English largely due to education at Ohio State University, but most Japanese do not have such experience. GcG just directly translated the word for those who told a lie, merely because he did not know other English words, and it is the fact that Aphaia told a lie in her steward election. If you trust Aphaia and want her to keep her adminship it's fine, but please stop this kind of defensiveness and trial to shut out any critical facts, just as Aphaia had been doing in Japanese Wikipedia before she was indefinitely blocked. In most cases when Japanese use such words, those are mere direct translations of Japanese words, simply because they do not know other words. Again, please focus on the content and know the fact before tabbing "personal attacks" and/or put that template by wording. That comment might have been made by a vandal in Japanese Wikipedia. At least, I support your revert there, for it was an obvious vandalism. However, such wording by most Japanese, including GcG, come from poor English vocabulary, not malice.

I know Aphaia is working well here, and wonder why she acts so differently between in meta and in Japanese Wikipedia. She even told a lie in the election. Considering what she had done to Japanese Wikipedia, and total difference of her behavior between projects, I cannot trust her at all. Bureaucrats on small wikis

Hi, please explain why you don't grant bureaucratship to any small community. The Saterfrisian Wikipedia is crowded with interwiki bots like any other, and understandably they pollute the list of recent changes. Hi, it is no problem asking for bot status at Requests for bot status, please consider implementing the bot policy, to make the process easier, the bot status will be granted quite quickly then. The reason for not granting permanent right and even less bureaucrat-status on a project with such a small community is that can't be a voting and it already had caused troubles in the past, like people thinking that bureaucratship is some kind of higher status over other users and becoming dictators. I am not saying You would do the latter, but it is a reason we simply don't do this anymore. As soon as a community establishs there You are of course invited to hold a voting. Sollen die InterProjekt-Links bei deaktiviertem JavaScript ganz unten erscheinen, wie im Wikt, oder eher so wie in der Wikipedia, wo die Links ja "im" Artikel bzw. unter der Weblinks-Überschrift stehen? Dann könnte man nämlich auf die Rahmen-Vorlage User:Spacebirdy/InterProject verzichten (mit entsprechender Umprogrammierung). Habe das Ganze im Wikt aber mit Absicht etwas strikter programmiert, damit die InterProjekt-Links als Ganzes zusammengehalten werden! Bei der momentanen Gestaltung in der Wikipedia wäre eine Umrahmung (User:Spacebirdy/InterProject) redundant, aber wenn man den Leuten zu viel Freiheit gibt, dann platzieren sie die Links irgendwo (und nur "Non-JS-User" bemerken dann das Problem -> dann *irgendwo* sichtbar, störend). Allerdings ist mein Skript schneller (weil kürzer, und weil mit innerHTML, was zwar *noch* nicht im Standard ist, aber sein wird, da besser (performanter) > HTML 5! Achso, das Skript gehört aber nach MediaWiki:Monobook.js! Common.js ist für alle Skins, aber nicht alle haben eine Toolbox (p-tb)! Gibt dann einen Zugriffsfehler (Skripte danach werden dann z.B. nicht ausgeführt)! The file must be in the same directory as the bot and in utf-8 if that does not help, try to change the file extension to .xml

I have combained these mediawiki texts mainly from spanish wikipedia. But they worked well until namespaces were changed. Hi again. I tryed various configurations, finaly I deleted both .js files but anyway buttons are not showing. I looked at various wikipedias and it seems that only guarani and navajo wikipedias have this kind of problem. I have no idea that to do to restore the buttons. I found that message but it was not working to some reasons and I discovered why: as I was doing something new, I changed my language preference to English in order to understand better what I was doing. When editing the system messages, following the link to Usernameblacklist I ended up not in MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist but in MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist/en, which has no effect. After realizing this, I changed by language back to Volapük (the site's language) and I finally ended up in MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist and it worked. Thanks again. Hello, I come from Lao Wikipedia (lo). I've some problems that only the administrators can do and my language administrator has been offline for more than 15 days and is unable to solve the problem. So, I just come to Meta because some admins here would be able to edit the page and fix problem.

As I said, I've a problem which is unable to create "hide" and "show" button on Navbox templates. Please see Navbox and Common.js on Lao Wikipedia. If you can help me sort this out or manage to make the hide and show button, then I would be very grateful. (We've put the script there and it doesn't work.) Hi Passawuth, are You lo:User:ກາຍ in lo.wiki? (I was not sure where to answer). There seems to be something missing in Common.js but I don't have the time to take a closer look this weekend, also I have not much knowledge in JavaScript. However, with lo:ຜູ້ໃຊ້:Spacebirdy/monobook.js it worked, but note, that in lo:Template:Navbox I could not find the necessary classes to create a hide/unhidable box, NavFrame/NavContent are not there, if You copied them from another Wikipedia and they have the show/hide option there, there is something missing still.

P.S. I somehow hope You are not active in km.wiki, don't ask me why.

yes, I had recieved answer from thogo and even have replied to him. I even comveyed the same thing as for me it is important to have Admin access whether it is temporary or permanent, adn as in this case, extension was really evry quick. Must appreciate that. My only intenstion was to avoid this reminder if there is any way, but it seems that in our Gujarati community, people don't seem to be much interested in visiting talk page, and hence probably they don't know about any voting for Admin. Anyways, I am happy continuing as ongoing Temp Admin. Image Background

Hi Birdy, Once again I am back, this time with two queries:

1. I just replicated some of the user templates on gu.wikipedia yesterday and realsied that the transperant background in .svg files become white. The same image in template in en.wikipedia has transparant background and not in gu.wikipedia. you can check them both at en:Template:User Hindu and gu:Template:User Hindu.
2. On en.wikipedia, template names are not case sensitive, while they are on gu.wikipedia. eg. in the above case, Template:User Hindu or Template:User hindu doesn't make any difference in search on english but in gujarati, it does.

ad.1.: The templates look exactly the same for me (except for the script :) ) no white background, both orange. Please try to clear Your cache.

ad.2.: You could move the name from upper to lower case: gu:Special:MovePage/Template:User_Hindu. Please note, that in en.wikipedia the link to en:Template:User Hindu does not work, only if You enter "Template:User Hindu" in the search. This works also in gu.wikipedia the other way round: if You enter "Template:User hindu" it leads You to "Template:User Hindu". If You just move the page You will have both links working.

Sister project + Misc.

Hi Spacebirdy ,I'm just busying translating all day ! I have found a problem that cannot be resolved quickly and there are many things to ask you.

1. There's no Thai Wikiversity, which means that we don't yet have a Thai name for Wikiversity. In "Our projects" page, should I leave it as Wikiversity or spell in my native language ?
2. How can we create projects' names in my language ? Example : Wikibooks - I want it to have a proper in Laos (Please don't be confuse, I'm active on both Thai and Laos projects). The name will show on the tab bar (Title - "ວິກິພີເດຍ",description - like that). But I don't know how to do it. It's not just calling it, but have a proper Laos name. (The Laos Wikibooks haven't been created yet, but I just want to know how to do it.
3. On the sidebar, when I set my prefences to Thai, it became Thai only some parts. But other - are not. I translate on BetaWiki but I don't see how can I translate Wikimedia Meta sidebar. How can we translate ?
4. I am very worry about Navbox in Laos Wikipedia. There's no one to help me ! Mr.Pathoschild seems didn't see it and I don't know what to do anymore. I'm not an administrator and... I don't even know what to do apart from pasting scripts and CSS and create and use the template.
5. Do you know any Thai here at Meta ? The babel page was created not much long ago and seems that no one except me can speak Thai according to the category !

ad.1: If You want to create new projects You need to suggest this at Requests for new languages (see this page for instructions)

ad.2: If the project already exists and You want to change the project namespace name such as Wikibooks, You can ask for it at betawiki: (please note that these requests should be accepted by the community because it affects everyone). Other namespace names can directly be translated at betawiki:Special:Magic (also only in accordance with the local community)

ad.3: yes, this is because we have sidebar links here, which are not default and thus not included in the translation at betawiki; they can only be translated locally here on Meta. Should be no problem if You can make a list.

ad.4: who created the Monobook.js or Common.js on lo.wiki in the first place, it is a mess imho, I would ask them to fix it.

ad.5: No, to be honnest I do not visit userpages much, so I mostly don't know who is from where :)

Enabling Gujarati script in Search Box

Hi Birdy, This time, on gu.wiki on main page there is no tick box for selecting Gujarati lenguage, which makes it difficult to search the content. In [hi:wikipedia.org hindi page] it is by default hindi, I mean if you type any word in search box, it appears in hindi, and on [bn.wikipedia.org Bengali] main page there is a virtual key board allowing users to type key words. Can we have a combination of both of these? as default gujarati will definiately help, but sometimes new users are not aware of certian sopecial charecter's use, in this case virtual keyboard could help. I am sorry, I think I had made a wrong start of my query. Please disregard that part where I have mentioned about checkbox. My only purpose is to have gujarati typing enabled on the main page, and especially in search box as its on hi.wiki, and the virtual keyboard that I had mentioned about on bn.wiki was my mistake, its not a virtual keyboard, but it seems to be index. By searching the Monobook.js for errors I found out that there was already a translit.js script ready (but it is on another wikipedia, namely new.wiki: new:MediaWiki:translitguj.js) so I chose to use that, this edit explains what I did, I set the variable "realtime" from false to true, which lets You insert the script without using the checkbox first. I also found a function that was doubled and removed it and left some text for You there which explains what You can do if You want translit.js localized. Misspelling

How to Rename/Redirect a Category?

I just saw on th.wiki the project namespace ("Wikipedia") has been changed to Thai (example: [12] here You see the tab in th).

Please compare: th:แม่แบบ:Wikivar and wikt:th:แม่แบบ:wikivar, here You can see the namespace names. {{ns:Project}} is not translated in th.wiktionary. If You want it translated please make sure, the community agrees. As soon as You found a good translation this has to be requested at bugzilla. I can help You with that.

Spambot

We are facing the problem : There are four times on Laos Wiktionary that spambot keeps adding nonsense texts to this page which was originally create by a spambot. If you can delete the article, protect the title, and block them, I shall be very grateful. I wonder if there is any bot to find spambot and automatically report to Drini, and the bot that automatically check the suspect list and then report the bot who will block them ! :) If it has then all wikis would be secure from the spambot :D

I do upload them there, but they always end up deleted. This user User: Bryan has been stalking me all over on the commons, and find stupid reasons to delete them because of some "vendetta" he has over me for some reason.

I really doubt anyone is ever stalking You, no one is interested in You specifically. Going around the deletions on commons by uploading the images cross-wiki instead of sorting out the problems at commons, sorry to say, is vandalism, also creating multiple accounts for uploading deleted images.

Alphabet Source

Hi Birdy, can you tell me where the source of alphabets for main wiki is located? Let me be more clear, in gu.wiki we face a piccular problem, the letters 'v' and 'w' sounds the same, and V is more common to use for pronounciations of a specific letter in Gujarati. But when we use 'v' somehow the gujarati alphabet typed on screen is the one that as bh, this seems to be some problem somewhere. Hi Dsvyas, I don't quite understand the question, do You mean the sortorder in the categories? Or which character is taken for that realtime input in the searchfield? For the latter I think it is defined in that javascript, example given: some code from there:

,"i":"इ","I":"ई",

defines i as इ, I as ई

If You wanted v as something else than search for v in that js, actually "V":"व्" and "v":"व्" and change it to something else, but the replaced characters should then be assigned to another key.

Hi Birdy, Thanks for your reply. Let me make it more clear, this time I am not talking about the search field, this happens everywhere in gu.wiki, say for an example, If I am creating a new article and have to write વરખ I should be typing varakha, but if I use 'v' there, it does type it as ભરખ

as you have mentioned that the replaced characters should then be assigned to another key, ભ્ is already assigned to key strokes 'bh', so it shouldn't create any problem.

Yes, of course, this is because the Translit.js is used for the edit window and also for the search, right now v is assigned to that character. So if You change something in the javascript it affects everything.

So either You ask in new:मिडियाविकि:Translitguj.js for changing it or You modify it in gu:MediaWiki:Translit.js completing it and changing the address from new to gu in gu:MediaWiki:Monobook.js.

Maybe better the last suggestion, because then You can correct things directly and assign every character to wich key You think it should go. Maybe letting new.wiki know that v should be another character would be nice though.

Final Help

Hi Birdy, I am a useless person, please pardon me. I did modify gu:MediaWiki:Translit.js and even committed changes in gu:MediaWiki:Monobook.js but after removing the link for new:MediaWiki:Translitguj.js from monobok.js when i try to edit or type anything in gu.wiki it brings up script error message and asks to debug. While debugging, I noticed that the first message appears is

An exception of type 'Microsoft JScript Compilation error:Expected '}" was not handled.

and then when I go and see the debugged file, it highlights the below:

In which third line is highlighted. I checked compared the translit.js with translitguj.js thoroughly, but couldn't Identify any missing }. I don't have any programming background, so need your help. I am a bit dissapointed though, I thouhgt You understand, that it is really not acceptable to have English or empty pages in non-English Wikipedias. Imagine You bought a book in English and every second page is either empty or in a language You don't understand...

I like Enya too, a lot actually, she is a positive person. I don't like seeing superstubs in English about her in lots of other language-Wikipediae.

I don't like people not being honest. As You can see in the vandalism report the IP address added lots of empty or English pages in non-English Wikipediae, so did the other accounts, some are not yet listed there.

You should know that we can see which users are behind accounts if there is vandalism, which there was. It is senseless to deny that, because we know.

As stated above I did close the other two of You here already, namely Glitter1959 and Dancinfool610.

Also I would like to add, that there can be no clearing of Your name since You did not stop with adding those English/or empty articles cross-wiki.

Auto numbering in Gujarati script

Hi Birdy, Here I am back.. I wanted to know whether is there anyway to enable Gujarati numbering system for Autonumbering? I mean, when we use hash (#) sign for autonumbering, wiki inserts numbers in english scripts, while we already haev Gujarati numbers corresponding the roman scripts. Hi Dsvyas, I understand what You mean, but I am really sorry, I asked the betawiki developers and they told me, that, these numbers are not generated by the wikimedia-software but by the browsers, therefore can only be fixed by the browser developers.

I can't think of a workaround but to insert the numbers by hand :( :૧. and so on :(

Hi, as I promised, I am back. :), I noticed that for last sometime the link to 'Upload File' on Navigation Bar (left) is leading to this article instead of the form to upload file. Thanks Birdy, I agree with you for uploading images on Commons, I even tried doing so, but the problem arrises with 'limited use' images, In fact, I had to copy some of the images from commons to gu.wiki, as I couldn't embed images by just typing the file name. Commons takes images not only with the public domain licence but also other free licences such as GFDL, cc-by-sa, etc.

As for the unfree images I would like to point You to this message by Timichal, which is affecting 1:1 gu.wiki too.

Oh Birdy, there are many Images that didn't work, I uploaded a few last week in commons, and tried to link them for our local POTD, but only one that I had assigned to public domain worked adn others I had to import in gu.wiki as well. to give you a fresh example, I uploaded this and have a link for the image with exactly the same name and exactly as what you have been doing and what I have been doing for other pages on this article on Saputara in gu.wiki. You can see yourself how the image is shown there. Sorry, it worked in this instance, will let you know a specific example where I fail.--Dhaval 22:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, now I see the problem, the images that did not work might have been deleted, please always give the licence and source for that image, there is a template when You upload which You can simply fill out.

This is one of the reasons why images should go to commons: they check if they are licenced correctly, if they aren't they are problematic because could be a copyright violation and thuss harming the Wikimedia-Foundation.

Hi Birdy, No I am sure the problem with those images not being displayed in gu.wiki was not at all with their being deleted from commons, they are still there. Now I think that the problem I was facing was especially when I was creating the Potd templates. Is it possible that the images from commons will play around if you make templates using them (depending upon their licencing)? I must get back to you with a specific example next time I face it.
