Requesting closure of 2 expired RFCs

Requesting closure of the following RFCs due to inactivity:

Discussions ceased in august and september of 2020, almost three years ago. The discussions seem to have ended without any "external review by the uninvolved global community". One user commented on both requests in may 2022, but no other user engaged with their comments. Widen my limited meta admin rights

Hi!

I'm a limited admin at meta "for spam blacklist management only", see RfA, since 2009. (And I'm admin at dewiki and a limited admin at enwiki.)

So, technically I'm already able to watch the (even private) global edit filter rules. However, I want to be allowed to edit them, too. Do I have to start an additional RfA for this? Or what would you suggest? -- seth (talk) 22:18, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Request for patroller

Dear Meta-Admins, today I would like to request the patroller flag. I’d like to assist in patrolling good edits (small edits & translations from en to german). While crosswiki patrolling I also frequently see vandalism here, and rollback would allow me to encounter vandalism faster & better. I already have rollback rights in dewiki and some other projects.

I have tagged 11 pages with CSD (Sysop-Link) and reverted ~40 edits. I also reported a few vandals on RfH.

The experience of the candidate seems (to me) a bit on the low side. However, they have expertise from other projects and have been around here for some time. @MTRIProd. Have you read Meta:Patrollers? Do you understand the special role that meta.wiki has in coordinating multiple projects in every different language, including translations? Usually the meta community is quite picky about giving rights, especially to relatively new users, like you are. Nevertheless I think that you are making progresses and that the patrolling tools might be of help. Please disable m:Special:AbuseFilter/144 for Commons specifically (e.g. & wiki_name !== 'commonswiki') (or change it to warn or log-only, if you think that's a better solution). Our very similar filter, c:Special:AbuseFilter/180, was changed to log-only by consensus (link), and there are many false positives from the global filter on Commons now. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 01:26, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Request for fixes to filter 325

When I used TwinkleGlobal to submit a report to SRG, my report was stopped by this filter (Special:AbuseLog/2101553). Have I did something wrong? I would like to know why this occured. @MathXplore see Special:AbuseFilter/325 and its warning text MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-srgip, the filter works as intended but Twinkle is not able to display the warning. If you try again you should be able to still report the IP if necessary.
@AmandaNP just fyi the user experience is a bit confusing for TwinkleGlobal users which make up the majority of SRG reports... Johannnes89 (talk) 08:41, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
While I can understand the sentiment, TwinkleGlobal should be showing the content of *any* abuse filters it encounters. Right now, there is reporting to SRG that could be reported on IRC, and if it's not, it's just sitting on SRG till most likely I'm the one dealing with it every once in a while, and it's entirely stale by that point, causing mass declines like this. It's not a perfect solution by far, but it 1) improves the rate in which we are blocking things 2) Improves happiness with stewards as IRC is a lot more responsive 3) Decreases the load on 1 or 2 stewards doing all the IP work.
I know TwinkleGlobal won't be able to catch up immediately, but I'm still of the opinion abuse filters should have been accounted for to begin with. -- Amanda (she/her) 01:31, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
General comment. I would think that too many IP hits are reported without a solid basis for doing so for a positive impact on stopping abuse (based on my previous stewardry and review of hits last year or the year before). There are best intentions, though not suitable knowledge by reporters. So I would be almost bold enough to say that TwinkleGlobal should be prevented from being that tool. Or there needs to be an an "earn your stripes" component to being able to use that aspect of the tool.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:10, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
As somebody who went through two declined cloak requests (with the second request sent almost a year later, since that is when I next checked the first's status after not getting a response within a few weeks) I can only say that directing users to a system like this is quite a subopotimal solution. SRG reports are reflected on IRC anyway, so what's causing mass declines like this is that such notifications are neglected (not sure what would change the rate in which we are blocking things). From experience I can also say that it is at least a few more than "1 or 2 stewards"... ~~~~

Comment Comment @MathXplore: The filter is one that is set by stewards for stewards pages, so not one that local admins will touch. As such not actionable here, and that should be something better addressed through SN. I am going to mark this as resolved for this page.

That aside, the comment is that TwinkleGlobal is not suitably coded that it shows when it is hitting abuse filters, and the messages that can come from it. That is something that should be reflected back to the coders of the tool to update.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:02, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Possible GAF #132 false positive

Hello. Posting here per es:Wikipedia:Filtro de ediciones/Portal/Archivo/Reporte de falsos positivos/Actual#Grupo 1 Beni. It's not clear to me why global filter 132 was triggered by these edits (abuse filter log). Could anyone please take a look and tweak it accordingly, if needed? CC @SRuizR. LTA edit filter

It is becoming a pattern that socks of LTA Salebot1 request a global lock of my account (e.g., [5][6][7][8]). I am a Commons CU (and thus also admin), VRT member, have multiple FAs on en.wiki, and have never been blocked or otherwise sanctioned on any project in more than 15 years. I say this, of course, not to boast, but to suggest that a hypothetical need to lock my account would be accompanied by a not insignificant degree of commotion, and thus that there is no reasonable scenario in which such a request would come from a new account. Accordingly, I would like to request creation of an edit filter to prevent this abuse. I am not a meta admin and cannot implement it myself, but would be happy to provide the syntax if desired. Request for MassMessage sender permissions

I am requesting MassMessage sender permissions. I've been doing a lot of user group and conference/event organizing, and would like to be able to mass message users about upcoming events, editing campaigns, and other user group outreach efforts. I would ensure that I'm only using MassMessage sender privileges to advertise Wikimedia user group and affiliate events. The next event I'm helping with is on 12 July, 2023, so if I could get these rights before then, it would be awesome, so I can more widely engage in outreach. Thanks for your consideration! Please, unblock it globally. It's my friend's. He's not a vandal. He did a lot good work through years in lot of wikis. Only Barranca on Wikipedia PL with "smród" entry was a joke a bit of top. He once or twice argued with some admins, but he was a bit drunk after party. He did a lot of good edits on movie sites and lego sites. Please unblock him. I know he will never do these filthy jokes at Barranca at Wikipedia PL.

I've seen two mass messages that have used User:MediaWiki message delivery lately and the former had broken internationalization and the latter has wrong semantics.
