Description of activities and learning
[edit]Many of the programs have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the First quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.
Educational Program
[edit]1. Mentorship for professors
- Goals met by this activity
In this quarter, we managed to mentor two professors what. Both of them got wiki lectures in mid to late June. They got the basic level wikipedian user skills and one of them got Wikimedia Commons lessons. So far, three out five professors were part of the project.
- Some considerations
Due to busyness of the professors, only two more participants has managed to be part of this subprogram in this quarter.
2. Wikiexperiments
- Goals met by this activity
11 recorded videos of physics experiments. Considering the metrics of least 30 videos, at the end of 2021, we will achieve this goal. On 25 and 26, the 2021 season of Wikiexperiments has started. Filmed again with presentation from the professor Oliver Zajkov at the Institute of Physics, Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, Skopje. The filming days were May 25 and 26.
- Some considerations
Due to busyness of the professors, only Prof. Zajkov was able to be part of this subprogram in this quarter.
3. High School Students Editing Competition
- Goals met by this activity
In collaboration with the users group GLAM Macedonia, we organized an editing competition for persons that are 15 to 18 years old. The competition started on April 26 and the chosen topic was titled "Biosphere Reserves in the World". At the end on May 9, the overall top three contesters were also prized. The results of the participants, which were seven of them, are 121 new and two improved articles.
- Some considerations
This year's format was changed and it lasted three weeks, in which in every week a three member jury chose the best ranked article.
Community Program
[edit]4. Editing Competitions
- Goals met by this activity
As planned, we held one Editing Competition in this quarter. Traditionally, it was reserved for SEE Spring 2021 EC. Trough out the entire month of April, the "CEE Spring 2021" Editing Competition was active. By having articles targeted on everything related to Central and Eastern Europe, six competitors were part of the engagement. They resulted in 253 new and three improved articles.
- Some considerations
When it comes to a budget perspective, SEE Spring has its own budget, but statistically, it falls in this category due to its nature as a project.
5. Week-a-thons
- Goals met by this activity
One week-a-thon organized out of two. From the period of May 3 to 9, this editing weekly competition got held and was titled "Activism for Healthy Environment". This contest was participated by two contesters who overall created 59 articles. Mostly the covered articles were about activists, rights and movements.
- Some considerations
This activity was part of the international initiative "Wiki for Human Rights 2021".
6. Edit-a-thons
- Goals met by this activity
One edit-a-thon held in April. At April 14, we organized an edit-a-thon with the first children's embassy in the world called "Megjashi" which reprezents a new organization that collaborated with us. This event was held online with our two men and eight people of them were part of the lecturing, training, mentorship and editing. Three articles were created and improved each, out of this engagement for a contribution at the field of children and children rights, the field of expertise of the people of Megjashi.
- Some considerations
Eight people got introduction and editing lessons to Wikipedia editing, but only two individuals directly got involved to contributing in Wikipedia articles.
7. Editing Weekends
- Goals met by this activity
The Editing Weekends were on various topics such as history, geography, ecology, music, culture, science, association football.
- Some considerations
Every weekend we held EW. The average productivity is almost 10.5 articles/templates per weekend.
8. Editing Days
- Goals met by this activity
This very similar activity to the EW, also was themed with the fields covered in the Editing Weekends, but also had archaeology, literature and linguistics.
- Some considerations
Almost every Tuesday and Thursday we held ED. The average productivity is 8.5 articles/templates per 24 hour period.
9. WikiSketch Lessons
- Goals met by this activity
Project were volunteers are free to chose what to cover and edit, on any field of knowledge or expertise. The participants generally chose the fields of geography, institutions all over the World, associations and organizations, literature.
- Some considerations
In this quarter, five people were brand new within this project.
10. Photohunts
- Goals met by this activity
On April 13, another (second) photohunt was made at the Skopje Zoo, in order to complete all the animals that were yet not photographed. Those animals were 22 in numbers and by doing this, now all the zoo animal species got covered and have at least one photography of them. With this engagement 31 images got uploaded and subsequently seven articles were created and 15 articles were improved.
- Some considerations
The first visit of the Zoo, and that photohunt and its statistics, is considered as separate.
11. Wikiexpeditions
- Goals met by this activity
Two editions got made out of four in 2021. This time the expeditions by car visited the region of Povardarie (Municipalities of Negotino and Demir Kapija) on May 21-23 and the Bitola region Mariovo and Selečka Mountain (Municipality of Novaci) on June 18-20. Again, four men explored villages and their sites and attractions for better illustrations on Wikipedia and other projects. 1169 images were uploaded.
- Some considerations
The productivity of Bitola region Mariovo and Selečka Mountain Wikiexpedition was the highest one from our several last expeditions of this type. Image coverage of 736 photographies.
12. Geoexpeditions
- Goals met by this activity
The "Geos" started on the single day expedition on May 16 and the one planned expedition for 2021 is done. The places of visit and exploration were was the mountain of Bogoslovec and it's Gjavolski Dzid Formation that are located in the region of Ovče Pole, nearby the town of Sveti Nikole. Also, the village of Bogoslovec and the local St. John the Theologian Church. 100 images got uploaded and three articles were created and four more were improved within this activity.
- Some considerations
These are expeditions that are directed towards geographical formations and landmarks.
13. Archaeoexpeditions
- Goals met by this activity
On June 10, the Archaeoexpeditions got launched, for the first time since 2019. The destination was proposed, by a MA at Archaeology, to be the Demir Kapija region, at the South-Central part of the Republic of Macedonia, specifically at the Demi Kapija Canyon and the town of Demir Kapija itself. We covered four archaeological sites: Kale - Strezov Grad (assumed by many archaeologist as the Medieval town/fortress of Prosek), Ramnište, Crkvište (which represent a former church), and Varnici. This expedition had a total of four participants, of which the above mentioned archaeologist, two Shared Knowledge members, and a photographer who has participated in many our previous activities. 30 images got uploaded on Commons with encyclopedic value. One article got created and eight more were improved.
- Some considerations
These expeditions targets archaeological sites.
Partnership Program
[edit]14. Saray of Resen and Hristo Tatarčev House Visit
- Goals met by this activity
At May 21 in the town of Resen located in the southern mid-west of the Macedonian Republic, we visited the notable Saray of Resen and the family house of the one of the founders of the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (MRO) - Hristo Tatarčev. The Saray, built in the first decade of the 20 century, now houses the House of Culture "Dragi Tozija" and the Resen division of the Museum of Macedonia. Images were being photographed in order to be uploaded on Commons so they can be placed on suitable articles for better illustration.
15. Skopje Zoo
- Goals met by this activity
It this quarter, we continued to create articles of the species currently at the Zoo, in order to create the QR codes. Out of 89 species, two articles were lacking in the Macedonian Wikipedia and they got created by one user who also uploaded five images. Hence Albanian language is the second official language, we reached the Albanian language User Group to help us and to create the lacking articles. Their contribution in this quarter was 11 eleven articles by four users.
- Some considerations
This project is no yet finished hence over 50 articles are still missing in the Albanian Wikipedia.
