Description of activities and learning

[edit]

Each of the programmes have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the 4th Quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.

Education

[edit]

Educational programme

Goals met by this activity

The main goals of this project was to introduce Wikipedia to the young high school students thus providing them a chance to enrich it with information from their school books and learning materials. This was the second year of successful completion of the project by Инокентиј (Cvetko Nedelkovski) who is a physics teacher in "Josip Broz Tito" high school in Skopje.

Some considerations

none, see above

Archaeoexpeditions

Goals met by this activity

By this activities, we try to cover the most important and significant well - known archaeological sites in the country which are remnants of ancient and medieval cities and fortress found in the written historical records. The main goals are to create or improve articles for those archaeological sites of ancient and medieval cities, fortresses and notable objects with a good quality text and pictures, hence to serve as a useful basis of information for further research and usage in the public purposes such as science, culture, tourism etc.

Community

[edit]

Geoexpedition

This project, whose leader is the Community head, Toni Ristovski, aims to use the various data available from the databases of the State Statistical Office of Macedonia and enriching articles about settlements in the country by means of the available tools such as tables, charts and other means of data visualisation, presented in a standardised and uniform manner. We intend to develop the project further in order to cover data in areas other than population.

Editing days

Goals met by this activity

With our editing days, we encouraged Wikipedians to devote more of their free time in writing on relevant topics for the duration of a given day.

Some considerations

This quarter we held only one editin day on the topic of "Events at the 2016 Olympics" and had an average, but satisfactory response from the established editing community. The topic was exciting, as this was the period that led to the Olympics and had a currency with the general public, enabling us to popularise Wikipedia and editing by subsequently publishing the articles we have created on or Facebook page as the events progressed and winners and scores were added every day.

Wikiexpeditions

Goals met by this activity

Our Wikiexpeditions regularly visit different regions of Macedonia with a daily plan, photographing villages and towns, their houses, landmarks, important places, museums, and monuments. Many images are taken, and most of them are used in articles that are created or greatly improved by the knowledge gained on the expeditions and subsequent material researched to provide substance to the articles about the places or landmarks. The expedition reports, as well as articles on various settlements and their monuments and heritage are then shared on our special Facebook group dedicated to the Wikiexpeditions as well as our mk.wiki group page.

Some considerations

Academicians of MANU

Goals met by this activity

Our Academicians of MANU project was conceived and led by our WiR, who dedicated part of his time to collecting the biographies of the notable scientists and artists that have the distinction of being Members of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and write articles on the life and work of each of these important people.

Photohunts

Goals met by this activity

The aim of this project is to enrich articles about significant objects and monuments in Skopje closely linked with its history from the period of WWII as well as all geographical features in village of Strezovce and its surroundings in Kumanovo region.

Some considerations

So far, we have made three forays into wineries and intend to enrich Wikipedia not only with our images, but also with the knowledge gathered from book resources and the guidance of the tour guides and wine experts.

GLAM

[edit]

Wikimedian-in-Residence

Goals met by this activity

Our Wikimedian-in-residence at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Art (MANU) has provided many invaluable images of public domain works and old documents. He also provided our community with further volumes of important reference and scientific material that support general editing, and various project activities such as expeditions by finding material that relates to places and events relevant to them.

Some considerations

As always, our WiR is one of our most valuable assets, having access to massive literature and the ear of many important people in the academy who are leading experts in their fields, this constantly initiating new kinds of projects in areas as diverse as geography, linguistics, science and literature.

Wikiexperiments

Although the experiments were uploaded in late 2015, it took some time to organise their description and usage in articles. All of them now have proper Macedonian and English descriptions and are used on those respective wikis, with the initiative of a project to describe and use them in as many languages as possible within our Central and East European community (advertised on its group on Facebook).

Some considerations

There was great interest in the experiments because of heir quality of presentation. We then intend to go on recording experiments at the Institute of Chemistry, with the same intention and impact.
