This is an Impact report for the third quarter (Q3, July through September) on the 2021 APG grant to Shared Knowledge, with special consideration given to the 2021 Annual plan.

Description of activities and learning[edit]

Many of the programs have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the First quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.

Educational Program[edit]

1. Mentorship for professors

Goals met by this activity

In the second day of September, with the addition of a university professor that teaches at the Faculty of Pedagogy, Skopje. She got the basic training lessons in order to easily use Wikipedia and also to mentor and teach and to encourage other fellow professors and students. During the mentorship lesson, one article was created.

Some considerations

Due to busyness of the professors, only two more participants has managed to be part of this subprogram in this quarter.

2. Wikiexperiments

Goals met by this activity

There was shooting experiments on July 6 and September 29. The July filming was arranged at chemistry experiments at the Institute of Chemistry, FNSM, Skopje. Again, our collaborators were the professors Vladimir Petruševski, Marina Stojanovska and assistant professor Miha Bukleski. The trio was able to present 18 videos.

For the first time, we managed to shoot biology experiments. This was done with the Institute of Biology, the department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Skopje. The experiments covered variety of biology disciplines such as mycology, microbiology, botany, ecology of plants, and animal physiology. The filming of the videos got occurred on September 29. That day, at the several laboratories of the Institute of Biology, twelve people were part of the overall making of the experiments. The outcome is 20 videos filmed in span of six hours active work.

Community Program[edit]

3. Editing Competitions

Goals met by this activity

As planned, we held one Editing Competition in this quarter. "Summer Olympics" EC lasted from July 9 to August 8. The final results tell that three competitors created 127 articles and improved five articles about the past editions, competitors, sports of the Olympics. Concerning the prizes, addressing to the contesters with the most accumulated points, the top two users won one, plus an additional prize for the best edited article.

Some considerations

The competition was themed after the 2020 Summer Olympics and it was titled "Summer Olympics".

4. Week-a-thons

Goals met by this activity

The second week-a-thon organized out of two. From the period of September 24 to 30, this editing weekly competition got held and was titled "Wiki Loves Fashion 2021". It was organized because Shared Knowledge joined the international initiative along side the other Wikimedia branches. This contest was participated by three contesters who overall created 42 articles and improved four. Mostly the covered articles were about fashion events, models and designers.

Some considerations

We got 25 articles minimum to win a prize. Hence only one of contesters topped the minimum, the participant was able to receive a prize voucher.

5. Editing Weekends

Goals met by this activity

The Editing Weekends were on various topics such as history, geography, culture, linguistics, mechanics, sport, religion.

Some considerations

Every weekend we held EW. The average productivity is 12.1 articles/templates per weekend.

6. Editing Days

Goals met by this activity

At this Editing Days project-challenge, our coordinator chose the fields covered to be archaeology, music, art, literature and linguistics, history, computing.

Some considerations

Held every Tuesday and Thursday. The average productivity is 9.2 articles/templates per 24 hour period.

7. WikiSketch Lessons

Goals met by this activity

Two participants were got quick lesson and mentorships in using Wikipedia. The first one created one article about the Association of woodcutters of Macedonia, while in September another older Wikipedian created and improved 15 articles that relate Macedonian protestant-methodist organizations.

Some considerations

In this quarter, one person was brand new when it comes to editing Wikipedia.

8. Photohunts

Goals met by this activity

On 20th of the month, three Wikipedians headed to the village of Galičnik, which is 110 km away by road from the capital city. The goal of this photohunt was to photograph the houses that are listed as Cultural Heritage of Macedonia. 30 houses, out of 31, were located and were photographed. Alongside the houses, several other local buildings got covered, such as the St. Paraskeva of the Balkans Church and the Villa Dosta. A total of 43 images were uploaded on Commons. The second photohunt this quarter was on September 4, a photohunt was realized in Gorno Lisiče, which is one of most eastern suburbs in Skopje. Within this engagement the most notable sites and buildings were photographed for better illustration of Gorno Lisiče in the Wikipedia articles. 46 images were uploaded on Commons as result of his photohunt.

Some considerations

According to the annual plan, only one photohunt remains to be made.

9. WikiStands

Goals met by this activity

Two out of four stands were held. On September 18, we managed to organize the first ever Wikistand. This activity consist of having a stand at places at are fairly visited, like malls, public squares, busy pedestrian streets where visitors/pedestrians could edit on Wikipedia. With this engagement we bridge the gap between the regular people and the Wikipedia itself. In this occasion we made the stand at a mall in Skopje. Four people got chance to get lecture on Wikipedia and to edit and four participants created four articles. Seven days later, we held the second stand at same place. This time, we got the attention of seven people who created ten articles

Some considerations

This activities had promo materials such as T-shirts with the logo of Wikipedia.

10. Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos

Goals met by this activity

For the second time, we organized our own WPWP competition, as part of the international initiative. The competition lasted from July 1 to August 31. At this 2021 edition 13 participants had chance to insert images in image lacking articles. The contesters had overall number of covered articles that was 4,564 articles, and within them the participants inserted 5,145 images.

Some considerations

The competition was organized with GLAM Macedonia user group.

11. Wikiexpeditions

Goals met by this activity

Two expeditions made and according to the annual plan's targets, this objective is complete. The third wikiexpedition this year was held 27-29 August, when four men visited Buševa Mountain and Prilepsko Pole, situated in the Municipalities of Prilep and Krivogaštani. The last expedition of the year was in the Municipality of Radoviš, particular in the Juruklak microregion and Radoviš Plain. The exploration and capturing images was from 25 to 26 September.

13. Wiki Loves Monuments 2021

Goals met by this activity

One competition held during September. It was titled "Wiki Loves Monuments 2021" as part of the international engagement held in the same period. The goal of our contest was participants to capture and/or upload images from sites that are listed as cultural heritage of Macedonia. The targets were sites that did not have any images on Commons. Twelve contesters were part of the WLM in Macedonia and they achieved a number of 800 images. The top three rated images were prized and also the most contributing participant with most covered sites got a prize.

Some considerations

This was the first WLM in Macedonia after the 2015 edition.

14. Exhibits

Goals met by this activity

As planned, all the photographs portrayed at the "Japan Trough Photographs" Exhibit need to have QR code in order to lead to a respective article. Due to lacking articles, 21 articles were created for this purpose, in the period of August.

Some considerations

The exhibit itself was held in the last quarter of 2021.

15. Skopje Zoo

Goals met by this activity

In this quarter, four people were in engagement of creating articles in the Albanian Wikipedia. This is due to the QR plates will have three QR codes (i.e. articles of Macedonian, Albanian and English). Hence the English and Macedonian article of the species exist, about 50+ articles were lacking in the Albanian Wikipedia. Four people contributed in creating and completing the lacking articles.

Some considerations

The completion of the project will be in November, after the montage of the 89 QR plates and its promotion.

16. WikiVillage

Goals met by this activity

This project falls in the Cultural Heritage subprogram. In September, 31 articles were created in Macedonian related to houses that are cultural heritage of Macedonia in the village of Galičnik. The articles will have QR code that will lead to the house's article.

Some considerations

The montage in the village of Galičnik is going to be realized in the last quarter.
