Description of activities and learning[edit]

Many of the programs have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the First quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.

Educational Program[edit]

Mentorship for professors

Goals met by this activity

So far, we have made one mentorship lesson in Wikipedia with a university professor that teaches Early modern history at the "Cyril and Methodius" University - Skopje. The onetime training was conducted in February.

Some considerations

Due to busyness of the professors and to a small degree of the pandemic, only one participant has managed to be part of this subprogram in this quarter.

Community[edit]

Editing competitions

Goals met by this activity

With the editing competitions, we are joining forces to create as many articles as possible within a certain longer time period. A jury then decides the winners, who are awarded. This quarter, during February and March, we organized 1 editing competition with an outcome of 184 created and 1 improved article by four contesters that participated.

Some considerations

The competition was titled "Dinosaurs" because there is a possibility to make a collaboration with Skopje Zoo that soon will open it's Dino Park. With this competition we paved our way for dinosaur articles that match with exhibited dinosaur replicas.

Edit-a-thons

Goals met by this activity

The edit-a-thons aim to increase the engagement of our community for driving towards a common goal on a certain topic that has been agreed as being of importance. Quality is improved both by covering missing topics and by extending existing articles. In this first quarter we held 3 edit-a-thons.

Some considerations

Two of the edit-a-thons (the first and third ones) were made in partnership with the youth organization MladiHub (an organization that collaborated with us since October 2020) that provided us the participants. The topics were given from our side and they were "British Culture" and "Geography", respectively. The second edit-a-thon titled "Human Rights" was organized with the Macedonian branch of the organization "Network for European Citizenship and Identity" that got scheduled and made in early February.

Editing weekends

Goals met by this activity

With 171 covered articles and keeping this trend, we are close to reach the 750 articles annual checkpoint. The amount of 13 annual users within the subproject is already achieved in the first quarter.

Some considerations

Most of the articles are created via WikiTranslate and the topics were relatively easy to be covered.

Editing days

Goals met by this activity

With 247 covered articles and keeping this trend, we are close to reach the 1000 articles annual checkpoint. So far, 8 users were part of this, 10 shy from the planned 18 within the whole year.

Some considerations

The considerations are similar to the EW, but the most productive ED were originally created due to local sources of material.

Wikisketch Lessons

Goals met by this activity

The word of Wikisketch Lessons subproject reached five users of which three were brand new users. The WikiSketches were held more than ten times this quarter.

Some considerations

These engagements were held either in physical presence or online due to safety reasons.

Photohunts

Goals met by this activity

One photohunt has been initiated at this quarter. Two users, from last year, were at the Skopje Zoo where the it's animals were photographed. 79 images got uploaded which is 26.8% of the planned images of 2021.

Some considerations

This was the first visit of the photohunt. Another photohunt at the Skopje Zoo was made by the same user in early second quarter. So those statistics fall in that Q2 report.

Visiting Museums and Libraries

Goals met by this activity

As part of the objective "Visiting Museums and Libraries" in which at some certain institution, we hold an editing event on the topics of cultural heritage. The first installment was at the National Institution-University Library "Goce Delčev" - Štip. Hence we where in the town of Štip, we wanted to focus on the cultural heritage of the town and it's area.

Some considerations

Due to restrictions and busyness factors, we were limited when it comes to numbers in participants and by that covered articles.
