Steward requests/Global permissions
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Hello everyone. I am applying for global rollback rights. I globally fight vandalism via SWViewer and I know what powers these rights give me. I have read and understood the meta-wiki and other policy pages. This right will help me a lot in the fight against vandalism. Thanks you for your time. Thanks. Sincerely, Gadir (talk) 00:06, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

- Comment I just do not want to vote now, but I just want to emphasize that the user has only 30 undos on wikis where he doesn't have rollback access according to SWViewer, and also that most of his xwiki activities is user renaming; if we take out the wikis where his only edits are page moves while renaming users, we can tell that outside of azwiki, he has editied a quite low number of wikis. I will reconsider voting later today if no big objections are raised, but this is what I have to say now. ToadetteEdit (talk) 07:19, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- It appears that he did roughly 74 actions on SWViewer, to be exact. Codename Noreste (talk) 07:27, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Codename Noreste, I don't know the exact number but + there are also actions I did from wikis.
- ToadetteEdit, no, it's not actually like that. I'm browsing between wikis, I believe I am experienced in this matter. However, this rights will increase my opportunities. Still, this is my first candidacy, no problem, if not, I'll come back after a while. Sincerely, Gadir (talk) 07:37, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- I ahve reviewed the acknowledgment and would be happy to Support; keep it up. ToadetteEdit (talk) 13:26, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- While I agree the edit matrix on a cross-wiki level is lower than ideal, you need to have either local rollback or global rollback to efficiently use SWViewer ( The account must have rollback on a project they want to use or global rollback., SWViewer); not doing actions with SWViewer on wikis where they don't have rollback is completely fine. Toadette, you should stop commenting on things you have no experience in. Sorry, but I noticed this trend quite a while ago and it hasn't stopped.--A09|(pogovor) 09:21, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello all,
I’m Ternera and I’ve been actively fighting vandalism on a variety of wikis - especially focusing on small wikis with no admins.
I'm requesting global sysop rights mainly so I can help with Global sysops/Speedy delete requests and at GSR, where I've made over 350 edits. It would also come in helpful while I’m patrolling recent changes and run into LTA’s on small wikis.
Currently, I’m a global rollbacker and have served as a sysop on rwwiki for the past 6 months, which has taught me how to use the sysop toolkit. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes since I've been participating on Wiki projects, but I do my best to learn from them. 2fa is enabled on my account. Thank you for your feedback. Requests for global rename permissions

Hello, everyone. I am a Wikipedian contributing to the Spanish Wikipedia. My roles there include Rollbacker, Reviewer, Template Editor, and Rollbacker on Wikidata, among other local responsibilities. My native language is Spanish, and I have strong proficiency in English, French, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic. The purpose of my request is to broaden my involvement within Wikimedia Foundation projects, without necessarily limiting myself to being a local contributor on Wikipedia.
I am aware that many prefer candidates to have prior experience as sysops, but honestly, my local Wikipedia often judges users harshly during candidacies. We are losing more administrators due to poor management. Most candidacies fail to gain sufficient support and are often judged for minor mistakes, sometimes dating back years. This has been acknowledged by a former administrator of Spanish Wikipedia, who expressed similar concerns.
Additionally, I couldn’t participate in the local renaming process on my Wikipedia because the renamers there do not allow collaboration or responses—it is, unfortunately, a space controlled exclusively by them. For these reasons, I am submitting my request to collaborate more broadly and to contribute with my language skills to support the Wikimedia community. This text was modified on December 25, 2024 to make a clarification that may not have been understood in the answers. —Aopou {discusión} 23:26, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Neutral - would prefer if they were an admin and I'm not seeing any recent edits/clerking on es:Wikipedia:Cambiar el nombre de usuario. I'm not opposed to this passing though since Aopou seems fairly trusted. Ternera (talk) 05:57, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Ternera: Actually, my idea was to become a local renamer, but on the Spanish Wikipedia, username change requests are quite rare, and there is already someone who usually handles them—a global renamer and former administrator of that same Wikipedia. The times I wanted to respond or collaborate, I was told I needed to submit a request. So, I prefer to do it globally, especially since I have knowledge of other languages, allowing me to contribute as a global renamer. —Aopou {discusión} 06:04, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Aopou Why are you not an admin on that wiki? Leaderboard (talk) 06:35, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Leaderboard: Honestly, it is one of the Wikipedias where users are judged the most when submitting a candidacy. They look for even the smallest mistake from years ago (I say this as an exaggeration, but they do search for the tiniest errors). Additionally, most users dislike candidates with few edits (fewer than 50,000 or 100,000). There are more details, but unfortunately, that’s why I was never a candidate and never submitted my application. Even though I would like to, considering we have 56 administrators and fewer than 10 are active, I prefer to keep contributing to my Wikipedia and others in different ways. —Aopou {discusión} 06:50, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

Support - reasoning is sensible and clerking at renamer venues tends to be unhelpful. Leaderboard (talk) 07:15, 19 December 2024 (UTC)- @Aopou:, what's going on (see your talk page)? "it has become clear to us that you or someone you know had created the account Horcus" is a pretty serious accusation, and will result in an auto-oppose without clarification. I haven't changed my vote so far, purely because a neutral vote doesn't affect the stats and I'd like to know more info about this before making a proper decision. --SHB2000 (t • c) 05:28, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Leaderboard, SHB2000: As I mentioned in the EPIC discussion and as Horcus noted in their statement, we are different individuals, although we use the same IP address. He is my partner, to clarify directly. I invited him to collaborate on Wikimedia projects, which is primarily reflected in the Spanish Wikipedia, where we are both main contributors.
- He was aware of my request to become a global renamer and decided to vote in my favor, just as other users did. However, neither he nor I, despite my experience as a user, were aware that this action could be interpreted as an invalid vote due to sharing the same IP address, even though it is clearly not a legitimate sockpuppet.
- I deeply regret the situation, as it caused an issue and primarily affected another user’s request, which was eventually reopened. In summary, he is someone I know personally with whom I share an IP address, and he did vote on my request. I want to emphasize that I do not need to self-vote, let alone “tarnish” my reputation in this way, especially considering that other trusted users from my community, including administrators and former administrators, had already expressed their support for me.
- It was a serious mistake for him to intervene in my request and other votes, something he completely regrets. As I stated in the EPIC discussion, if it is necessary to withdraw my request or impose a sanction on Meta, I will accept the consequences. I sincerely apologize to those who placed their trust in me. —Aopou {discusión} 06:13, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

- Neutral for now. I'm more or less concerned by what ternera has mentioned already; otherwise I'd lean back onto edit matrix which doesn't seem too strong now, but I'm also not sure if this is because of eswiki's RfA process (as described by the candidate). --SHB2000 (t • c) 07:35, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm keeping my vote as neutral for the same reasons above. This was more or less unintended and I'm willing to trust Aopou's word on it – had Aopou known (which I don't blame them for not knowing – this isn't really meatpuppetry as Aopou never explicitly told her partner about this), I'm sure she'd have told her partner, but she didn't, and she was truly sorry and apologised for that. Horcus' votes have been struck; I think that's all that needs to be done for now. --SHB2000 (t • c) 07:24, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
Oppose per SHB2000 (sorry). I would support later if there are advanced permissions or better edit matrix (e.g. strong cross wiki track-record, etc.). I'm also hesitant because this request passing opens the global rename candidacy to lot more other users without advanced rights or strong edit matrix, which I am not sure is desirable. – Svārtava (tɕ) 08:38, 19 December 2024 (UTC)- Changing to Weak support per Leaderboard and Gadir and the clarified rationale. – Svārtava (tɕ) 20:41, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

I use VPN on my dedicated server to access sites banned in Russia and I hate to turn off VPN and reload page before any edit in Wiki projects. --Kuzzim (talk) 13:45, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
