Steward requests/Permissions
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.
Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.
- Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
- If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
- For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type
!steward
in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type@steward
for non-urgent help.
Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page
1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:
==== Username@xxproject ==== {{sr-request |status = <!-- don't change this line --> |domain = <!-- such as en.wikibooks --> |user name = |discussion= }} (your remarks) ~~~~
2. Fill in the values:
- domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
- user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
- discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).
3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement
Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.
Requests
Administrator access
See Administrator for information about this user group.
- If you are requesting adminship to handle one time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Steward requests/Miscellaneous.
- MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
- Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-adminconnect.
- Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.
Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.
Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew adminship.
- Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
- If you only want adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent adminship and the duration of adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

Hello! I am glad that Wikipedia focused on the Pali language, I am a member of a much smaller Pali-speaking society. I have seen on Pali Wikipedia that some users are vandalizing Pali Wikipedia and there is no active central power that can control it, I want you to give me administrative rights, so that I can keep Pali Wikipedia clean and fair. See, we are very concerned about this struggling language, so please give some quick feedback on this subject. if you do not want me, then give it to someone else, but please help us to save our language. vikrantaditya 04:03, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- If your wiki has a voting process, please follow it. If you don't, please announce your intention to serve as an admin on your community's "Village Pump" (or equivalent), and come back to us with the link of the discussion. On hold till then. — regards, Revi 14:08, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Permanent adminship requested this time. Main purpose is fight vandalism. Helmoony (talk) 14:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

- I am on the edge. At least three voters [1], [2] & [3] have less than 50 edits and do not seem frequent editors of ar.wikibooks. User #1 last edit was on 21 July 2019 and came back just to vote, User #2 last edit was on 21 April 2017 and appeared just to vote and User #3 last editted on 18 September 2019 and likewise their first edit after the hiatus was to vote on the RfA. The number of supports is suspiciously close to the minimum of 5 in our guidelines as well. On the other hand, Avicenno is a permanent admin on three other content projects and ar.wikibooks has other permanent admins as well. Thoughts? —MarcoAurelio (talk) 08:55, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- @MarcoAurelio: Avicenno changed his username before several months, so here you can found his previous @arwikibooks log, I apologize for forgetting mentioned that on my comment. About voters, we've ar.projects policy that any nomination for advanced permission or vital discussion on any Arabic sister projects (arwikibooks, arwiktionary, arwikinews ...etc) should be announced on Arabic Wikipedia Village pump/sister projects, and this procedure was agreed by all of these projects community to avoid any discussions or nominations that might pass without the participation, especially that few of these projects without actual separate community --Alaa :)..! 10:27, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

I would like to request for temporary adminship access (3/6 months) for housekeeping and maintenance tasks. There is no active sysop controlling it. As a long term editor I have been supporting Corsu (and Gallurese) Wikipedia since 2018. I am active also on translatewiki with regard to the Corsican language. - Granted for 3 months to expire on 2020-09-13. It's the first request, so it's 3 months. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. --Sotiale (talk) 04:32, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Interface administrator access
See Interface admin for information about this user group.
- If you need to accomplish a one-time, non-recurring task, please request your task at Steward requests/Miscellaneous.
- If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
- MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
- Since the end of 2018, all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.
- Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.
Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.
Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew interface adminship.

Bureaucrat access
- In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
- A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.
Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.
CheckUser access
- To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
- One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.
- Stewards: Before granting this permission to a user, please check the current policy and make sure that the user has signed the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. An email template is available for requesting new users to identify.
- When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list. Subscription to checkuser-l will be handled by list owners. Make sure new users contact an op for access to #wikimedia-privacyconnect and #wikimedia-checkuserconnect.

- There seem to be several irregularities with the CU election in question:
- The voting was started with no prior announcement or discussion whatsoever, one minute after the candidate was nominated. No rationale from the nominator or any sort of opening statement from the candidate were provided.
- During the course of the voting, SpeedyGonsales, an admin, made the following statement in the discussion subpage: Any sort of discussion about the good faith of those who vote against is moot as soon as we realize we have two checkusers, whose contributions are easy to check, and it is known that when one of them loses his status, this project loses its checkusers. He was then presented with a quote from CheckUser policy: In the case where only one CheckUser is left on a wiki (when the only other one retires, or is removed), the community must appoint a new CheckUser immediately (so that the number of CheckUsers is at least two). Although this quote clearly shows his claim was false, he nevertheless maintained he had been correct, and he repeated the same statement once more. Since the policy, as quoted above, is fairly unambiguous, this amounts to wilful misrepresentation, which was apparently intended to influence the participants on an alarmist platform. Indeed, two editors who voted "support" gave the same rationale.
- In the discussion subpage SpeedyGonsales also stated that voting against because of alleged violations of procedure is a lie wrapped in a shiny paper. He was then briefly blocked by Lasta for violations of WP:NPA and WP:AGF. While challenging the positions of other editors during a vote is perfectly fine, when an admin does so in the manner described, it is bound to produce a chilling effect. Aggravating the matter, no admins other than Lasta expressed disagreement with SpeedyGonsales' conduct. After these two statements were made, just one "oppose" vote was cast.
- Finally, let me just note that Tulkas Astaldo was nominated by Kubura, which suggests the motive behind the nomination is related to the current circumstances made known to the stewards. GregorB (talk) 19:46, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Please grant the above user CU rights following successful community vote. Thank you. --Bellcricket (talk) 23:43, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
Please wait! Although it was not posted directly on this voting page, it is thought that this poll also has such external suspicions on canvas, as it was voted at the same time. I think this request should be suspended or rejected.--126.21.229.0 03:51, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- Well.. if you can't suggest that currently there is a serious discussion on jawiki community regarding this checkuser permission vote, I will grant permission according to the request of Bellcricket, who is a jawiki bureaucrat. In this case, I can only postpone this request when it is being discussed in jawiki community. I haven't found anything other than raising a problem in your link. If you have another link, present it now. If not, I should handle this request today. --Sotiale (talk) 04:27, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- Per 126.21.229.0. At least, should be on hold. It is obvious canvas acting.--Impact editing (talk) 08:40, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Oversight access
- To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
- For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
- Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .
- Stewards: Before granting this permission to a user, please check the current policy and make sure that the user has signed the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation.
- When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.
Removal of access
- If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
- See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.
Miscellaneous requests
Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.
Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:
