This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== Username@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Requests

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Administrator access

See Administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew adminship.

  • Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
  • If you only want adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent adminship and the duration of adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

Ideophagous@arywikipedia

Hello. I would like to extend my administrator as well as interface administrator rights on arywiki, with the purpose of continuing the work I have been doing there for the last few years, including curbing vandalism, improving project pages, deleting unnecessary or incompliant content, etc. By this occasion I would also like to extend the administrative rights of my adminbot AmgharBot (used for mass-deletion of pages, and soon for mass-protecting sensitive pages). If this request should be done separately, please let me know. If it's possible to get the rights for a long period (2 years or more) that would be great. Ideophagous (talk) 21:46, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 On hold until 17 September --Superpes15 (talk) 08:19, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done Granted for 2 years to expire on 2025-09-17. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. --Superpes15 (talk) 08:25, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Superpes15. Should I make a separate request for AmgharBot? Ideophagous (talk) 08:34, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ideophagous: Ehm, sorry, I thought I had specified it! Yes, you should open a new local RfA, and then asking for the flag here after at least a week :) Superpes15 (talk) 08:40, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Starladin@lld.wikipedia

Hello! After Starladin's 1 year adminship, they wish to be renewed for admin rights since today it expires, the user got 5 votes in favor (including mine). Many thanks in advance. --S4b1nuz ᴇ.656(SMS) 08:17, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Interface administrator access

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018, all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew interface adminship.

Eldarado@tlywikipedia

The Wikipedia language section of my mother tongue has been opened. I need to perform some technical tasks there, so I require Interface Administrator privileges. Additionally, I hold roles as a sysop and a bureaucrat on the azwiki. eldarado (talk | contributions | meta page) 20:15, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Eldarado: you will need to provide a link to the local discussion, which should be open for at least a week. — xaosflux Talk 20:55, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: I know, but wiki opened today. And needs some technical edits, what's your advise? --eldarado (talk | contributions | meta page) 21:00, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eldarado for anything urgently immediate, mock up the change locally and ask over at SRM where a global sysop can action it; for this request, start whatever that project's version of wikidata:Q16503 will be and at least post your intention there. You will likely need to be an admin and an intadmin for certain tasks unless you know you won't need both. Temp grants will likely start at 3 months in duration. — xaosflux Talk 21:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eldarado: We have been over a week. Do you have a link? -- Amanda (she/her) 13:50, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AmandaNP: Yes, you can find discussion in this page, I'm waiting. --eldarado (talk | contributions | meta page) 08:04, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, so we are still waiting for the 1 week mark then. -- Amanda (she/her) 02:01, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mustafa MVC@trwikiquote

Since I lost my 2FA codes, after several emails with ca@wikimedia.org, I got this authorization and 2FA was removed at the same time. Now I have 2FA again and I think there is no need for a discussion again for this authorization. Mustafa MVC (talk) 16:01, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If WMF removed, then it's up to WMF to restore. If they decline to restore, then we have to go through normal processes and a new discussion is required, especially since this was in practice a concern related to account security. -- Amanda (she/her) 13:48, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Mustafa MVC:! Have you contacted WMF for this issue? Thanks :) --Superpes15 (talk) 17:57, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course. I was directed here by WMF. I sent an email back after @AmandaNP's message, but I haven't received a response yet.Mustafa MVC (talk) 14:38, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Short answer is: WMF can decide who doesn't get access to certain things, but communities decide who does get access to this sort of thing. It appears that WMF has removed their restriction on you being allowed to have this access again in the future - meaning you need a showing of community support. — xaosflux Talk 15:38, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: Asking for a new RfA doesn't seems the correct procedure imho. If I lose my scratch codes and my 2FA access, WMF can disable the 2FA so I can re-activate it but, in the meantime, they're obliged to temporary remove my 2FA-mandatory rights for security reason. I've never lost access to my account nor has my password been compromised so, when they are sure that I've access to the account and I've enabled 2FA again, the 2FA-mandatory flags can be restored. I don't see the sense in having to, for example, wait for the stewards election or to apply again for GIE/GS/IA! Normally, in case of account compromise, it could be as you say (per policy it could happen), but when the situation concerns this kind of security issue (2FA - and not account - loss) there is no need to be so bureaucratic imho. The community already supported them a few months ago, imho no problems here if WMF confirms that we can restore the flag, but I'll wait for other opinions! Superpes15 (talk) 21:30, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Superpes15 failure to maintain operations for one's own account is something that could potentially cause a loss of support from a community. Agree this can be nuanced, thus why I didn't notdone this request, I'm open that others may approve still. If there was a standard showing of community support I would have closed already. tqwikiq is certainly a small project and what is best there may not be the same as if this was from a much larger project. — xaosflux Talk 22:30, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: Absolutely understand the point and I agree with you, actually we have to evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis, there are a lot of things to take into consideration and surely in a big project the issue is different! Let’s wait for another opinion and, in the meantime, also for @JSutherland (WMF): confirmation that everything is ok :) Superpes15 (talk) 22:49, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am confident that Mustafa MVC has access to his account now. I see where Xaos is coming from, though I personally think it's harsh to force someone to re-take community voting etc. because they lost their 2FA for whatever reason. The reasons one might lose 2FA are quite broad, of course, could be negligence, could be a stolen phone. Perhaps we need to talk more about the general process at a Stewards call. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 23:25, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem we are running into here, is the unwritten rule/general practice for stewards is not to regrant a right after it is removed without community consensus, even after resignations. It's not that we want to withhold the right, but it's a matter of setting the general practice to be something different, and then user think we move into the territory of restoring permissions after resignation/removal and we have to tell them no, and then they point to requests like this. That's why we require a new community vote. I hesitate to action this because of that, and I think pending a fresh vote, this may stall out till the next stewards meeting. -- Amanda (she/her) 13:29, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ויקיג'אנקי@hewikivoyage

I have been the most active and dedicated user at the Hebrew Wikivoyage since it was launched in 2013. As the current sole administrator of our community, I have consistently addressed various technical issues that have arisen over the years. I have previously had the interface administrator access because through the years I was one of the main users responsible for addressing different technical aspects. Currently our community is facing a technical issue that prevents content from being displayed on certain mobile browsers. This issue has already been successfully resolved on the Hebrew Wikipedia. I should be able to perform the same fix with the Interface Administrator access. I would need this permission to carry out other essential technical tasks on the site occasionally.

Here is the link to the community discussion, which has been open for a period of 7 days. Additionally, I have also enabled two-factor authentication.

Please grant me interface administrator rights for an extended duration. ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 11:35, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

See Bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
  • A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser access

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.

Oversight access

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Miscellaneous requests

Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:

  • SRB — Local or global bot status
  • SRGP — Global permissions

Removal of access

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

Civvì@itwikipedia

I just messed up an assignment of userrights, please remove bureaucrat rights. Civvì (talk) 14:05, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please, as usual, put on hold this. The error did not cause any real problem and - while I understand the pressure - I really don't think that the it.wiki community will gain from this right removal. Thank you. --M/ (talk) 14:08, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I fully support the request by M/. Please, put this request on hold. It was a minor error (a very short anticipation of an action that was in any case practically due), in total good faith, with no real consequences and the whole community of it.wiki admins recognised that. Nothing so serious to justify a deflag, especially of a valid bureaucrat as Civvì is. For sure, not an abuse nor a misuse, nothing damaging. Thank you.--Superspritztell me 14:17, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Personalmente non ritengo la scelta corretta, ma il posto per discuterne non è questo, riparliamone in attesa di (spero) un cambio d'idea! --Superpes15 (talk) 14:21, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On hold for 1 day, standard for resignation of advanced permissions --Superpes15 (talk) 14:21, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to extend the hold slightly to get confirmation from @Civvì:. Your community appears to accept that while a minor error has occurred, they still support you. Please confirm that you would like your own bureaucrat access on itwiki removed. We of course will not deny your request if you are certain. — xaosflux Talk 14:46, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that this is (are) a minor error(s), I really appreciate the support but the community deserves better then this. Please proceed, many thanks. --Civvì (talk) 18:04, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Civvì: porta pazienza un attimo per favore, ti devo dire una cosa. Please wait, I am writing you Done. Sorry for being off topic --Actormusicus (talk) 18:32, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Local discussion is being held here and some encouragement messages have also been posted on the user talk. I hope that the night has brought a different light to handle this little mishap in the best way. --M/ (talk) 07:33, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I withdraw the request, thanks. --Civvì (talk) 07:46, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
