Endorse...

[edit]

The OTRS/volunteering page has a big disclaimer discouraging people from endorsing/supporting if they haven't got anything useful to add. Durova, Huib and Majorly has said what is needed, so I'll just add an informal endorsement here. I look forward to be able to nag you about OTRS-tickets ;) Finn Rindahl 23:52, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Heh, well I haven't been accepted yet, but if I do get promoted, nag away my good fellow! ;) PeterSymonds 00:00, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, if I thought there was a chance you wouldn't get promoted I would have added an endorsment despite that disclaimer... :) Finn Rindahl 00:06, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Haha, well thank you! Your trust means a lot to me. :) PeterSymonds 00:09, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

unblock Luigi 28 and others

[edit]

Hi, you know this guy: you can read

This guy always accuses of sockpuppetry every editor who oppose his points of view: I had account en:user:PIO but I am not en:user:Luigi 28. As well I am not en:user:Barba Nane, en:user:MacLot, en:user:Miranovic, en:user:ANTE RAKELA. May you stop this DIREKTOR's harassment against several users by false accusations of socks? I know Luigi on e-mail messages then I know his surname and his hometown; in this case DIREKTOR reported Barba Nane claiming sockpuppetry of Luigi 28 and an admin banned him but here AlasdairGreen27 asserts The initial checkuser test about you was a false positive. You are not PIO, I know that. PIO was infantry, you are officer material. Your language style is different from PIO, your contributions are different, your ability to use sources is different and here Luigi asserts PIO is a real idiot: it is shameful to be compared to him. Evidence: Luigi is not Pio and Barba Nane is other guy too! Regards,--Ducatista 15:04, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nope, it's a genuine one. I'm afraid I won't have the time to devote enough activity for the foreseeable future, which is unfortunate, but it's one of those things. :-) Your kind comment is appreciated however. Best, PeterSymonds 19:11, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
We miss you, though that goes without saying. In fact, I remember even two weeks ago people were already noticing your absence and hoping you'd be back soon. But I understand that real life takes priority. Soap 23:34, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Hi PeterSymonds,
So, shouldn't I contribute on any other Wikimedia project? Tr.wikipedia is one of the Wikimedia projects and as you are aware of many other main projects are not as developed as en.wikipedia about WM policies. There is even no en:WP:AAB guideline on tr.wikipedia. Thank you. Best, CnkALTDS 11:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Being blocked for sockpuppetry on any wiki is a serious cause for concern. OTRS requires a level of trust that makes any such block a relevant factor. Also, you specified a desire to work on permissions-tr, which is not possible given your block. That is why I flagged it. Best, PeterSymonds 13:08, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for adding Galician translations. You created this page, could you remove the "$" symbol? It's unnecessary as "16 millóns de dólares" already includes it. Moreover, in Galician, currency symbols don't go before the number. Thank you again! --Toliño Fala aquí comigo 16:09, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

No problem; thanks for translating. I've removed the $ symbol. I was wondering whether, in that case, it should be appended with USD? Unless it's self-evident, but I'm quite new to this area. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks! PeterSymonds 18:16, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey Peter, I wanted to personally thank you for all the work you did during the fundraiser. I know I speak for every member of the staff who interacted with you (and probably every volunteer) when I say your help was invaluable from your IRC assistance/advice and thoughts, your help with banner and landing page translations (up until the very end), your help whenever I asked for testing or verification and your constant attempts to find more things you could help with. The only bad thing is the more you prove yourself the more likely I am to ask for your help later when I need it ;) -James/Jalexander/Jamesofur 00:40, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm Srikeit and I'm an admin on the English Wikipedia. I understand that you have closed my OTRS account for inactivity and probably a lack of RL verification. Suggestion

[edit]

Hello. I proposed a project for deletion some weeks ago (see proposal here). The problem is that there is a user (User:Node_ue) there that in my opinion vandalizes the proposal. He intercalated text in the very text of the proposal, and if you see that page, you might even think that his additions are part of my proposal (because I signed the introduction). Moreover, I used sources to make the arguments in the proposal verifiable. In exchange, the user responded with texts like "that is a lie" (without providing any contrary source or such). I told him to discuss the proposal on the talk page, but not modify the very text of the proposal because that makes the proposal without object (and makes the vote on the proposal ambigous). I also asked him (see here) at least not to intercalate his text into my text, becase I signed the proposal, and by that he alterates what I wrote. Please not that I did not express opinions, I put just some referenced arguments. Here you can compare my last version with Node-ue's version. He also deleted some of the sources (?! - allthough they were not tricky). I thought about asking the protection of the page, but that will prevent other users to vote on the proposal. Please, can you suggest what I can do? Maybe putting the voting section into a new template, and include it on the proposal page, then protect the proposal page?! Please help me, because I'm stuck and I don't want to engage in edit wars. Have a nice day. --Danutz 00:11, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've had a look now and I can't really see any vandalism, unless I'm missing something. However, splitting comments into section is probably a good idea, otherwise it looks rather confusing. I'll drop a note to that effect. Thanks, PeterSymonds 11:25, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, in the meantime another user stepped in and moved the tricky content to the talkpage, while adding a note to it on the main page. Thank you for your time.--Danutz 03:03, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know what he said, and there was nothing wrong with it. Certainly nothing block-worthy. You have temporary adminship for maintenance purposes only, and this action after filing a poorly-supported SRCU after their opposition to your bureaucrat candidacy made this action even more questionable. Brox, checkusers don't normally do that for privacy reasons. I've argued that with positive identification, a checkuser could, with the user's permission, disclose the information, but this was a weak ID, not positive identification, so I wouldn't expect that. I think that Peter may have stated this a bit unclearly. Peter, if the only identification was by geolocation, if there was no IP overlap and no user agent information making the identity more likely, would you mind clarifying that this is not conclusive? This checkuser report is being used to justify blocks already (on nl.wiki), Brox has been accused of lying because he hasn't admitted the accounts were his, citing the CU report of yours, and more damage could be done. --Abd 00:49, 8 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Slakr on IRC

[edit]

Peter, since you are the group contact, I wish to inform you that I had to submit yet more official complaints about Slakr's harassment on IRC. His actions are really poisonous and he is clearly ignoring the conduct standards regarding ops. His constant abuse, attacks, etc, are really out of line. We have talked about this before and it really needs to be dealt with. Right now, many people refuse to go into #wikipedia-en because he defends a really poisonous atmosphere. When I reported his outright abuse of ops in allowing his friends to use the #wikipedia-en chat room to talk about sex in graphic detail, he was supposed to be stopped but he continues to act in a highly inappropriate manner. At night, the handful of people who chat when it use to be the American time (i.e. after 1 AM GMT) have caused many people to leave because of the abuse, really nasty attacks, constant cussing, and reprehensible behavior. Simply pointing out that some of their nasty claims are wrong leads to being threaten with op use. One guy, Snard, made really nasty attacks on Chief Justice John Roberts and it was pointed out that Wikipedia contradicted him. He resorted to tossing around cuss words, nasty attacks, and saying troll over and over. The pointing out he was wrong was joined with 1. evidence and a source, 2. no cuss words or attacks, and 3. only as a way to say a really egregious BLP attack was wrong. This was met with Slakr saying that I would be banned because Snard thought I was a troll. How is that really acceptable behavior? We need ops who follow our standards and don't wave their power to threaten others like that. This is really upsetting and troubling, and the decline in the chat is evident. Peter: There are several other ops+users supporting ottava's most recent trolling/disruption ban. Feel free to hit me up on IRC if you'd like more info. --slakr 02:10, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Slakr uses the term "troll" to basically push whatever fringe view he has and it has nothing to do with any of my actions. He does allow a GNAA person who was banned from Freenode to just have free access to the IRC channels while knowing they are trolls and aren't supposed to be there. All of my comments have been backed up with sources and citations, and his attacks on me, a well-known writer who is highly educated is really irresponsible and not appropriate. He allows people to be really nasty and incivil, and it has chased many people away. The one night when he was encouraging Ironholds et al to attack me, I received 4 different messages from chatters complaining about how nasty they have been lately. This really needs to stop. The only solution is to remove Slakr's ops. Then you will see a major turn around in the chat with the people acting that way no longer feeling they are protected, and people returning to chat without fear. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:25, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Isn't Ottava banned from Wikipedia? I am, and I wouldn't dream of trying to tell #wikipedia-en ops what to do. Like Totally Not My Business. Ottava is importing Wikipedia (and other) conflict here, someone should suggest that he stop. --Abd 23:45, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

You haven't a clue about my history or anything, and you were immediately cussing, being nasty, and incivil just as you are above. Slakr's "civility" involved cussing, threats, and constantly using derogatory labels. Your claim about "right wing" is really inappropriate, because it doesn't matter what political background someone has that they are all allowed to use IRC. The IRC ToS does make it clear that you don't have the right to single people out and attack them like you did over political ideology. Ottava Rima (talk) 14:34, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sock puppet

[edit]

This user is an obvious sock puppet of a WR user who is tossing around many incivil statements, outright trolling, and pretty much threatening to release personal information (as you can see on my user talk page). Can you please deal with this individual? Ottava Rima (talk) 22:03, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea who the user is, but I requested a block for harassment, and it was promptly done.[1] On the other hand, that user was not threatening outing.[2] The comment refers to what Ottava still has linked from his talk page here.[3] I requested the block because that account had no other purpose than to poke Ottava. I wouldn't tolerate that on Wikiversity, and, while I don't have buttons here, I don't believe meta should tolerate it either. And apparently we don't. --Abd 01:56, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
The user behind the account is known as to which user on WR it is, and by mentioning my real life like that he was showing his willingness to bring things up that don't belong here. I didn't say he already released personal info but his casually tossing it around like that while trying to intimidate is a threat of such. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:29, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Since the account has been blocked, there isn't a lot more I can do. I suggest keeping an eye out for more and if necessary, file an RFCU for an underlying IP block. All best, PeterSymonds (talk) 07:45, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Americophile has installed a banner forbidding the users to participate in voting. I request that a steward revert the page and facilitate a correct and fair voting process in fa.wikisource. In order to avoid further vandalism and manipulation of voting process, I request to block Americaphile alias Leonidas alias Hootandolati alias Razghandi alias Americaphile alias Americophile in Farsi, and 30 other alias user accounts. Temporary adminship

[edit]

Good day, How can we pass from the temporary adminship granted on a wiki to a permanent one ? I have launched a discussion on that subject on the main discussion portal of the wiki more than a week ago and there isn't any objection; see [5]. I have been granted the temporary admin status in January 2010. Thanks you, Amqui 17:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Amqui. Whether adminship is granted permanently or on a fixed-term basis generally depends on the size of the community. To transfer from temporary to permanent, you will need to start a new request on crwiki, and if there is enough support after a week or two, we will remove the expiry. What we're looking for in practice is about six or seven comments on your adminship from people active in the crwiki community. Hope that helps, and thanks for your work so far. [edit]

I assume you will request others - many - to disengage? I know I've posted here previously and got no response but maybe it will work this time. --Herby talk thyme 17:53, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

If needed, though I'm particularly concerned about limiting any resentment, either to the English Wikipedia from Meta or vice versa. As far as I can see, the rest are having various discussions, and though it would be helpful for everybody involved to disengage (I wish!), it probably won't work out like that. The rest are involved, and I noticed that your use of the word "idiocy" was particularly inappropriate for such a discussion. I wasn't really intending to single anyone out; I'm just casually monitoring to ensure nothing goes too sour. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:01, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I would love to know why the word "idiocy" is inappropriate when faced with what Meta has experienced in the past 48 hours - that seemed a measured word in practice and far milder than I was inclined to use? I refer to the general behaviour of a number of users rather than any specific user.
As a volunteer here I find myself pushed into a corner with threats and intimidation. It reflects very badly on Foundation projects which I have worked quite extensively on for many years now - maybe it is time I stopped if this is the way people are treated. --Herby talk thyme 18:44, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anyone being pushed into a corner, and I don't see why anyone would take any notice of threats or intimidation from a (very) small group of outspoken users. The user concerned was blocked (dubiously in my opinion, but that's another issue), and he was in discussion with the blocking admin. That should've been left alone. The situation was already bad, and posting such comments can only serve to make the situation worse.
After all, we aren't talking about a vandal here; FPoS is an English Wikipedia administrator and a respected user there. He is also a volunteer, and is perhaps not as familiar with Meta processes as we are. That needs education, not a reaffirmation that the English Wikipedia causes Meta some resentment. At the moment, I'm fairly sure that certain English Wikipedia users are equally resentful about Meta. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:49, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Maybe you should take a look at rather more postings than you appear to have done.
I have attempted to stay even handed in the face of a number of aggressive comments and I have attempted to ensure that Meta's work continues to be carried out - something I have done for years. I certainly would hate to think I had "caused" any of the problems. If you see it differently block me (remove my rights if you wish - some would thank you though mostly spammers and vandals) - otherwise I have to ask you to consider things more fully. --Herby talk thyme 19:02, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Inuktitut administrators

[edit]

Good day, the user groups rights list shows that the Inuktitut Wikipedia has 2 bureaucrats/administrators (see [6]), but the fact being those two are inactive since 2006 and one them clearly says on his user page that he's not really an administrator on the Inuktitut Wikipedia (see [7], [8] and [9]). I know the Inuktitut Wikipedia doesn't have a specific inactivity policy, but you can see that the local administrators policy is a big mess (basically a bad copy-and-paste of the English Wikipedia administrators policy in 2007, see [10]). I wonder what can be done to remove these two inactive users from the local bureaucrats/sysop group so it's reflected in global list that the Wiki doesn't have any admin like it's in fact the case, thanks you. Amqui 21:32, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Amqui. The easiest way is to propose a revised inactivity policy on the local community discussion page. This proposal can suggest that inactive administrators and bureaucrats will be removed after a certain period of inactivity, usually a year or six months. If there is no objection to the proposal after a few weeks, any inactive users can be removed by request to Meta-Wiki. However, I believe it is important that should such a policy pass, the users who are eligible for removal should be given sufficient notice. A good policy currently exists on the English Wikipedia which I would commend, but iuwiki can decide its own policy. Hope that helps, PeterSymonds (talk) 10:15, 15 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks you for your answer. Amqui (talk) 05:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

re steward involvement (impression)

[edit]

FYI re [11]. There is an impression of steward involvement supporting some outrageous behavior (resulting in the exit of two experienced volunteers in disgust). Given what I understood of the scope of discretion of the steward role (from what I remember from the one steward election I gave serious attention so that my votes would have solid foundation -- but I may be mistaken) the impression I have is that some phone calls had to have been made made/emails exchanged, or stewards wouldn't have been so visible in events -- and continue to be. Note: Posting a question to your talk page had already crossed my mind earlier, so consider the interaction linked to as a tipping point for "saying something."

[feedback/FYI re impression, no reply necessary / feel free to delete/archive/transplant] -- Proofreader77 (talk) 17:53, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

My concern has only been concerning administrator misconduct and inappropriate behaviour. To counter your argument, there is a strong sense that much of this debate is centred around a few users who dislike the English Wikipedia. The behaviour from our end has been equally inappropriate on occasion, in my opinion. As for my role, I am an admin on Meta-Wiki, and my contribution to the debate has been as an admin and Meta regular. The fact that I'm also a steward is rather irrelevant. Hi LadyInGrey. I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea what is going on there. It doesn't match any known cross-wiki vandal/spammer as far as I'm aware. None of the accounts have any edits so it's possible the disruption is merely aimed at the creation log (ie somebody being silly). The alternative (albeit somewhat incredible) theory is that the accounts will be mass-deployed for a vandalism spree at a later date. Either way, I will take another look at the new accounts matching these characteristics a little later today. PeterSymonds (talk) 13:28, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Hi,

I have just discovered I lost my importer rights and I can see in the log the following:

09:08, 24 February 2012 PeterSymonds (talk | contribs) changed group membership for User:Juandev@cswikiversity from importer to (none) (removing permission due to local objections: Žádost o práva importéra)

There was a majority of users for, to give me rights so I got the rights from other steward. Why you removed these rights now?--Juandev (talk) 10:04, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

And why I was not informed, that a steward removed these rights?--Juandev (talk) 10:09, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. These were removed per the objections raised, very shortly after the right was granted. This was then noted on the open SRP request. I apologise for not notifying you but considering the request had only been posted shortly before, I considered it rather current. PeterSymonds (talk) 07:52, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I see. You understand Czech language, that you think there are objections? Danny B. wrote there his point of view, other users disagreed with him and the discussion ended. So after 14 days and no reply from Danny B. or others I assumed we are done.--Juandev (talk) 08:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi PeterSymonds, just for your information. User:Danny B. and User:Juandev have some unresolved personal problems between each other for long time. So if this objection was raised by user:Danny B., I will be cautious in this case and really consider all info really carefully. You are also writing that you removed rights because of "open SRP request". Can you please link this request for me? I was not able to find it in history. Thanks. --Chmee2 (talk) 08:35, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I dont think, we have disputes with Danny B. I feel more like a victim of Danny's persecution. Note, this is not for the first time Danny B. is manipulating people to harm me (if you were pushed by Danny B. to evaluate this proposal).--Juandev (talk) 19:22, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi. See Steward requests/Permissions/2012-02#Juandev@cs.wikiversity for the request (which was open at the time). I'd prefer not to get involved in any user dispute here (I am not aware of any, so I am perhaps unqualified), so if you think an error was made, please feel free to make another SRP request for another opinion. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 07:48, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, thanks for link, however, you are writing there:
I was asked to review this, and after reading the objections, I've decided to remove it. Furthermore two/four of the support comments were
from new accounts, so there is no apparent consensus. PeterSymonds (talk) 09:10, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
And I am asking you, where is officially (or some log) the request asking you to review this? There is no request in link you added here, just your result/solution and explanation why. My question was, what was justification for revision and who requested? Thanks for your further answers. Best regards --Chmee2 (talk) 11:58, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
PS: Just make clear. I am not saying you are prejudiced or associated in this dispute and I respect your opinion (and in the true, I do not care if Juandev will have or not importer rights). --Chmee2 (talk) 12:03, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
So I start to understand what happend. When rights were given, you recived from somone some objections upon which, you removed rights as you analyzed them as serious. Without wanting to contest with your decision, could you write down these objections and the name of their iniciator? I dont see the reason to keep them in secreet.--Juandev (talk) 19:22, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, I am still waiting for answers about my two questions which are highlighted above :) Thanks --Chmee2 (talk) 20:39, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh yes, I'm sorry! In answer to your questions, the review was requested by User:Danny B. on the Wikimedia stewards' IRC channel. At the time his objections seemed reasonable, and I had no prior knowledge of any dispute between the two users. As such I removed the right, and left a quick note on the SRP request. Stewards tend to make these decisions in absence of any other supporting information, based on information provided at the time. Of course, this is not always ideal, but it's difficult to do it any other way with this sort of thing. If I was incorrect, I can only apologise, and you are very welcome to open a new SRP request. Apologies again for the delay; it's been a busy few days. PeterSymonds (talk) 08:07, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thank you very much for your reply. But I insist that you write also those "objections" upon which you assumed to remove importer rights. In the new SRP request other steward may have a different point of view on who represents a community in community consensus. But if there are "objections", which led you reverse community consensus, I think Czech Wikiversity community and other stewards should know them.--Juandev (talk) 13:28, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you dont want to tell us it is your choise. I just though if there were some serious contras, that Danny B. communicated directly to stewards without talking to cs.wv community it might be nice to know them. But probably they weren't. Danny B. already had about one month to come up with those and nothing was publicaly released.--Juandev (talk) 16:39, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Who can stay for community consensus

[edit]

Hi, as you were involved and it was your decission, I am asking you "stewards" (at my second request for importer rights), who can stay for community consensus on WMF project.--Juandev (talk) 07:53, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your intervention on Czech Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi PeterSymonds again, can you please explain me your intervention on cs.wiki, especially this edit. Czech Wikipedia is normally working project with own rules and with working community, I would be really thankful if you will be able explain your edits there. Thanks --Chmee2 (talk) 09:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

My editing involved the removal of personal information, which was then suppressed. The Czech Wikipedia has no local oversighters so the suppression was done in my steward role. PeterSymonds (talk) 17:46, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for your explanation, however, it is interesting that edit, which I was asking about, is information which is possible find it and "confirm" for example in one movie database (if you will be interesting, I will send you the address by email). So, I agree with you, that it is important keep personal information hidden (and therefore I am not criticizing deletion of main article about the person, if there was personal information...), but in this case of "Vrať se do hrobu" movie, your edit was not good solution. We have own rules how to menage information which are not verified in article and evaluate if the source is trustworthy or not. But your selective deletion is not the way how hidden edits on cs.wiki, especially if there is only the name as one of the character playing in the movie (which is credit in movie database). Or in other words, are you sure, that this person was not playing in this movie that you delete without knowledge it and that you hid useful information? Did you check it and you can say it?
Please, use in the future more your own mind and do not just do what other write you on IRC channel. Thank for it. Regards --Chmee2 (talk) 19:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
When it comes to personal information, in a language I do not speak, at the valid request of a fairly trusted user, of course it will be actioned. I am not going to re-verify every suppression I make because that would be absurd. I think it is fairly clear that this communication is based on the ongoing RfC rather than any substantive criticism about my actions on cs.wiki, but I would rather not get involved! Thanks. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:05, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
You are trying inferring me something, what I am not saying. I do not care about Juandev rights or about RfC, what are you trying to suggest (and maybe you have to start assume my good will firstly and believe what I am trying say to you!). I just writing you, that your "blind cooperation" based on non-transparent IRC communication with one user is wrong, especially if there are personal problems between users and you do not know rules on cs.wiki. We have own community which is able solve problems with non-references information. At the same time I please you (again!), do not listen only one part of dispute and leave to place to the local community which is normally working on cs.projects, especially in the case of edit, which I mention in the contribution above. Our standard procedure will solve this edit too without your "force" solution (and most probable this information will be deleted as well because there is not second independent reference but without needs of hiding this edit and without needs of circumvention of local community). Maybe I am wrong, but stewards are here not over-forced local communities, but act on the places, where communities do not exists (or you want to say to us by your edits, that we do not have working communities on Czech projects? I will be glad have answer from you to this question). I find your behavior as a second error probable due to personal please on IRC and I strongly disagree with your behavior. And if you are not able re-verify and explain your steps, which you done in the past, it is sad for project and for general transparency of Wikimedia projects. You will have to think about it. Thanks again and best regards. --Chmee2 (talk) 21:26, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think it is fairly clear that this communication is based on the ongoing RfC -- > note that Chmee2 started this thread 09:35, 22 April 2012, while I posted RFC 11 hours later 18:14, 22 April 2012. So I dont think so.--Juandev (talk) 22:04, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't really matter when threads were created. The RFC and this issue are intertwined. If you have a complaint about a stewards actions, please take it up with the Ombudsman commission. Thank you. Killiondude (talk) 06:25, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK.--Juandev (talk) 08:09, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

┌───────────────────┘
If you want stewards to stay away from the Czech Wikipedia, please consider electing some local oversighters. Until you do that, requests for suppression will inevitably be answered by stewards. This argument about a local community with its own rules means nothing if you don't have the users with the correct tools. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:41, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, your interpretation of my comment is misleading, probable because of my simple English... So I will try write more clearly again. I am not saying "stewards, stay away from Czech community". I am saying to you: think about your actions on different projects and do not overforced local rules and communities (especially based on private IRC requests). If you make some actions, find time to know local rules and speak with more users from wiki, where you take actions, because they might be neutral and help you to make better decision. Thank for your work as a steward, I am glad to see somebody who wants give his/her power into it because it is boring and hard work, but try to be more "neutral and take your time with the verification of events". Regards (and hopefully it will be my last comment here :) --Chmee2 (talk) 06:54, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Demod on NL.Wikiquote

[edit]

Hi Peter,

I think you did not do a proper job, regarding my demod on NL.Wikiquote.

  1. the list of mods was biased. Based on the qualifications of the users, not all people have been put on the list, which have low presence and low amount of edits
  2. none of the voters on wikiquote have a long history on wikiquote, it is by all means not a community decision
  3. that they tried to reach me is false. I did not receive any email regarding the demod procedure
  4. time has been too short, started on the 7th of may. Conclusion on the 20th of may, that is not even 2 weeks and that for a low activity wiki!
  5. there is no procedure of a demod on NL.Wikiquote, so proper governance has not been followed. Which means there is not a minimum stated on amount of edits you have to do per year - so there is no reason to demod people on the list.

I am more active on NL.Wikibooks, but regularly I have been taking a look at recent changes, in order to do the governing job in Wikiquote. I have taken a longer leave because this group of users has had a negative attitude towards me and in my opinion towards past contributions on wikiquote - so in order to prevent a culmination of events I have forced myself to a longer absence.

Some new user group has tried to disqualify former contributions to Wikiquote. This group of users has a history of troublesome behaviour on Wikipedia. You have been misused by this group.

I please ask you to take your responsibility and reverse the changes on the mod-bit for Aventicum, Amarant and Galwaygirl. P.S. I have been with the Wiki-family since nov 2004 (with different names), I am embarrased by this.

I can not and will not start or contribute to any discussion on Wikiquote, when this issue is not solved beforehand.

If after proper diligence the conclusion is that I have to give back my administratorship and bureaucrateship I will accept this. But not like this.

kind regards Aventicum (talk) 11:54, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

IRC

Gmaxwell banned me from the Wikimedia channel under: "You were kicked from #wikimedia by gmaxwell (banned user on multiple projects — no progress being made here)".

I was banned on one project, for one year. I am currently "indeffed" on that project as ArbCom's determination of "probation."

I was blocked for "one month" under an indef on Commons.

I was blocked by SB Johnny on Wikiversity after he decided to start calling people I know irl and retaliate for Jimbo desysopping him (and him talking sysops back without consensus).

This action is really egregious and Gmaxwell has a history of such. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:18, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

By the way, he did it under Kat Walsh's cloak, which means that he does not have rightful ops and is using someone else's in a highly inappropriate manner. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:23, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cross-wiki vandalism

[edit]

Hi Peter!

You blocked me for cross-wiki vandalism, and I'd like to know why... I did not edit any wikis in the last weeks, so: what's wrong? I'd be glad to get an answer, because I honestly have no clue what's going on. Only thing I'm writing about is a medieval noble family from Germany, and I do consider myself an expert towards them (my PhD-project is on them). Were the few changes I made perceived as spam? If so, I will from now on quit writing/editing any articles in wikipedia (as an expression of my uncertainty.) Unfounded censorship has no place in wikipedia.

Thank you!

Would you be able to tell me the current status of Todd's ban, and whether you consider there is ability for redemption? He has been asking politely in IRC over a period of time, and I have said that I would ask. I am against any un(b)lock of this user. He is persistent, but his behaviour is deceptive; he claims to be reformed but really has no clue why he was locked or what he did wrong. Ooops. I forgot top register my new nickname, which matches my wiki-userid. Should be okay now. Hawkeye7 (talk) 01:44, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Peter. You have a message right here. Have a nice day.--Rapsar (talk) 16:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Note

[edit]

Hi Peter. Since you (partially) did the OC appointments please note that at User_talk:Mdennis_(WMF)#OC they're discussing too whether users that "lost" their previous accesses when joining the commission (and are still serving as ombudsmen) should have them back. I think that might be for general interest since it'd mean that Thogo should have their steward bit back, for example. Best regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:56, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Interesting. I shall watch that space. It would make much more sense to return them if the rules are changing. We're waiting on one for identification. PeterSymonds (talk) 21:01, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

IRC Cloak Request

[edit]

Hi, About a week or two ago I placed a request for a cloak on IRC. I was wondering if it would be possible to check up on my request. Much appreciated! Mike VTalk 20:45, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Mike VTalk 02:34, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

IRC cloak request followup

(Yet another) IRC cloak request

[edit]

Hi; I'm new to IRC, and requested a cloak on February 26 and again on February 28 (because I didn't know if my original request had gone through. Please let me know if it's been granted (I'm a new admin, and would like a cloak before requesting access to the admins' channel), or if I need to do anything else. Thanks and all the best, Miniapolis (talk) 17:32, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Renaming information request

[edit]

You have been identified as someone who does a large number of renames. If you could visit Rename practices and explain your renaming practices and policy, we would appreciate the effort. We are making this request to help us better understand local renaming practices as we work towards SUL finalization. Thank you for your time and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. #wikimedia-privacy / #wikimedia-checkuser access request

[edit]

Hi. I've been appointed to the enwiki Audit Subcommittee. I understand I'm supposed to request access to the #wikimedia-privacy and #wikimedia-checkuser IRC channels, and that you're one of the people who can help me with this. Could you, please? Thanks. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 04:49, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry about it — already taken care of, by DerHexer. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 05:43, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notice of removal of adminship

[edit]

Hello,

I regret to inform you that, in accordance with Meta:Administrators/Removal and as a result of your inactivity, administrator rights have been removed from your account. Please see Meta:Administrators/Removal/October 2013 for details. Kind regards, Barras talk 14:15, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

We miss you. I expect everything goes well, but do come back to say hello if you have some spare time. Savhñ 15:21, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
This removal was for me the saddest removal of all! If you ever come back, I'd be more than happy to nominate you (again) for adminship here at any time. Maybe this time even without a note about that on foundation-l as it happened the last time. ;-) -Barras talk 17:25, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

From today's stuff … Pretty well every person who becomes a steward gives and gives and gives … and there is no way to thanks someone enough for the commitment and passion. So with shouting "THANKS and GOOD LUCK with whatever floats your boat."  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:11, 3 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are missed

[edit]

Peter, I very much hope that all is fine in your life. We have never worked too closely (except for a few times when you helped me get stuff done with regards to CentralNotice campaigns), but I have always appreciated your contributions and your involvement. You are greatly missed. odder (talk) 20:00, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia IRC Cloak

[edit]

I am requesting a Wikipedia IRC Cloak. I have already filled out the Google Docs Form. I meet the requirements. I am very active on IRC, helping users out both on Wikipedia and IRC. I understand if you are busy. Note: Please ping me or leave a talkback on my page in case I forget to check back on this talk page; thank you. --JustBerry (talk) 03:24, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi JustBerry, please see my talk page for a reply. Peter is currently not involved with the IRC cloak business. Kind regards, -Barras talk 06:31, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Global CSS/JS migration

[edit]

Hello PeterSymonds. You have global scripts in User:PeterSymonds/global.js, which you import using your local JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. Do you want me to fix this by removing the imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without changing any other content)? —Pathoschild 21:33, 05 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi again! I haven't heard back from you, so I'll assume you don't want to do this. Feel free to leave me a message or add a Synchbot request if you change your mind. :) —Pathoschild 17:46, 09 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi

[edit]

Hiya Pete. I saw an old comment from you somewhere on meta, and then noticed your long period of inactivity. :( Inactivity, here isn't necessarily a bad thing personally, if that's the case, I'm glad and hope you are well. Anyway, I just wanted to say, I miss ya old buddy! I miss those old days on IRC. And I really hope you are doing fine. Take care. Theo10011 (talk) 12:35, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
