This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Hi all. I'd like to request global rollback to better help with combating vandalism and long term abuse across multiple projects. I

  • Am a sysop on mediawiki and english wikiversity
  • Hold rollback rights on multiple other projects where they are available to non-admins, and make use of the rights
  • Am a part of the small wiki monitoring team, and use SWViewer to help patrol, among other things
  • Have read and understand the policy governing global rollback

Hi, for those who are not familiar with me, I am Masumrezarock100 I have been a SWMT member for a few months now and I actively patrol crosswiki with SWViewer, TwinkleGlobal and Fakerollback. I am asking for this permission to counter vandalism more efficiently. Global rollback unlike global sysop rights (which aid experienced SWMT members counter vandalism on small wikis), is truly global meaning it extends to all wikis, including big ones. I wanted to gain more experience, which is why I started patrolling mid-sized wikis as well as some big ones (eg. dewiki, frwiki, itwiki etc.). To be honest, I didn't have much self-confidence in myself and thought I needed more experience. But after multiple existing GR and GS encouraged me, I am applying.   • Strong support Strong support I am an admin on Sco.wiki where we frequently receive a specific type of vandalism unique to that wiki (Scots to English vandals who like to try and "correct spelling errors"). I granted Masumrezarock100 +rollback on the project, and there has not been a single day I have regretted it. They are a very careful user who always has ensured the long term integrity of the project.   • Support Support On a trust level, rollbacker on multiple projects and admin on mediawiki. On an activity level, he is one of the most active members of the SWMT and easily accessible on IRC. There is a steep learning curve to crosswiki vandalism but Masum has demonstrated that what he hasn't learned, he is willing to learn.   • Question Question: : In the last 3 months, you have been warned or questioned on use of rollback/undo. Most recently in you December 2019, November 2019 and again in November 2019, all of these warnings are less than 2 months old. There is also this warning from November 2019 where you rolledback an IPs good edits because " I just joined SMWT today and I have zero experience in small-wiki patrolling." and this from December 2019, which seems to indicate a trend of well meaning but careless and over eager behavior. Also to add, while I generally would not care about rollback on most local levels, global rollback often happens in communities without very active editors. Yes, as you said, I have made those mistakes and I take full responsibility for them.
  1. Regarding the betawikiversity incident, I acknowledge that I reverted an IP's good edits. It was a good faith revert, I thought it was vandalism. As I said back then, I joined SWMT that day and knew literally nothing of crosswiki patrolling and vandalism in other languages as I never had any experience in patrolling RC outside of English Wikipedia. I never had any SWMT mentor. Fortunately the admin who warned me was a nice person and I took their advice and did not repeat my mistakes.
  2. Regarding [1], the IP vandal in question was a LTA. I was too inexperienced back then, I didn't know how to deal with LTAs. I recall that the IP was copy-pasting content from somewhere to the existing pages and their associated talk pages. Most talk pages didn't exist before which means the IP created those talk pages. I admit it was my fault for not checking the edits properly and missing the "Talk" prefix from the page title. I believe I have learned from that incident and did not repeat it again.
  3. As for [2], I can only say it was my inability to assess the edit.
  4. With regards to [3] and [4], as I said above, I did not have enough experience dealing with LTAs back then, I knew nothing of their behavior. I didn't realize that I was adding more numbers to revisions to revdel while making myself a target. It would have been helpful for me and other patrollers if there were some kind of guide for new crosswiki patrollers. If I missed any guide like that, please pardon me. Hopefully Meta:Admin handbook will be implemented soon (currently a proposed guideline), I have found it very helpful for new patrollers as well as for experienced ones. Although Meta itself is not a content project, it is a home of LTAs, everyday I get to see new type of LTAs. I would not expect one to be familiar with all of them.
I can not erase my past but I can learn from it. I believe I learned from the mistakes I made and will continue to improve myself. I have been more careful lately on what to revert or not, asking others if I am unsure. As you might have known, I am active on IRC during my SWMT activity, trying to learn from other experienced patrollers. However at this time I think you lack the experience and maturity for any actual global permissions, particularly rollback. It was less than 60 days ago that you said I just joined SMWT today and I have zero experience in small-wiki patrolling. but continued making the same mistakes until just a few weeks ago. And though I left out several other examples of issues with your reverting/rollback, they are all far too recent to demonstrate the level of caution and as I said earlier, maturity necessary for this permission. I would like to see you demonstrate a thoughtfulness when dealing in areas you are inexperienced in, rather than just jumping in head first. Come back in a few months without any major issues.     @Geonuch: No, it is not just thwiki. Abuse filter sometimes warns and even disallows me from reverting on mid sized wikis (small wikis don't usually have abuse filters). An example would be es.wikinews where I could not blank a spam page. I have countless other examples, not just two, but I can not provide more evidence at this moment as I do not keep track of wikis where abuse filters blocks me. But I do remember that I have shared that experience with other SWMT members. I am myself not interested in the rollback right in GR toolset as it can be replicated easily using global.js. The effects of just having autopatrol right is far greater than it really is. (hint: some filters that prevent other users from editing someone else's userpage often have autopatrol exemption). I believe I have already explained my situation at User:Masumrezarock100/GR application essay, how I will use this right and other rights included in the GR toolset. Even if it does this all the time, it will be blocked on one of the local wikis.   • Comment Comment The nominated user engages in revert wars with vandals and LTAs despite requests to not do so, and has these actions crosswiki. GR needs to be able to respect each local community's cultures and not believe that they know what is best or that it should be that person's PoV. In well-established communities one has to let local communities manage their stuff, their way, and sometimes a GR just has to keep out of the way, right out of the way (most things are hardly ever that urgent). This user has not been good in restraint in that area. So my advice is be more respectful and restrained in that area; it is not the role of a GR to be involved with vandals and LTAs in street battles. When a person without rights is targeted crosswiki by LTAs that person is doing it wrong and is feeding the trolls. Also I'd like to add that GR is not a way to get rollback on big/mid sized wikis, as the user mentioned in their application. Those wiki's have their own policy and guidelines for rollbackers and one should follow that. IMHO one should patrol a wiki when they know the language or it's clear case vandalism.   • Support Support Good matrix that end not really well, I keep saying this line "careful on other language wiki" or paraphrasing in similar sentence. But hey, we have benefit of the doubt, so again with cliche words "Why not?", does GR can do big damage? Yes obviously, with de facto delete suppress redirect, but it's not like we can't fix it. Just remember, this user can learn, and I am sure this user will learn how to do things correctly in the future, I just don't want to kick new user who came to SWMT and make them discouraged from helping SWMT, all help is valuable. Just be a bit more careful in the future and learn from much more experienced SWMT members about what to do and what not to do. I have recently advised somebody to contact a global renamer as part of the procedure to unblock them, and having seen a protege of mine acquire global renamer rights here, it seems like a reasonable idea to request them myself. Hello, I'm an editor and sysop in ar.wiki (my home wiki), I was a global rename in May 2018, but I was inactive for almost 2 months then I decided to remove my global rename, and I will be back when I will be active, and now I'm active (as I graduated from the university). Anyway, we are on ar.wiki suffer from user names that violates our local username policy, in this time we have only 3 GR, and one of them is not active, and I think we need more GR to deal with the renaming accounts. so having the ability to perform these renames would enhance my ability to preform this work and help in it. I read Global rename policy, and Global renamers (I will focus essentially on requests on Arabic Wikipedia) so since I'm available on a daily basis, and there doesn't seem to be a reason that would prevent me from participating daily for the time being. Global IP block exempt for Peterwu2019

I'm in Mainland China, where most Wikis are blocked. I'm using VPN to use them. But I want to take part in them and try to edit. But the full blockade of all Wikis really bothers me. My IP address is hidden through the VPN, so I can't provide it in the unblock request. Because of the IP range block, I can't even write any words in my talk page, I even can't show my unblock request there, thus I can never contribute, though I'm also a victim. I hope to unblock, though it's neither your error nor my fault. If you can consider unblocking, it can be really great.
