Global rename for Wealszy
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (list 'crats • bot policy • summary • 'crats rights)
- User: Wealszy (talk • edits • logs • UserRights • activity • CentralAuth • email • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 16 May 2023 16:21 UTC
Hello. Necessary to respond to requests to change certain names and usernames on the local wiki. Wealszy (talk) 16:21, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Weak oppose because you haven’t given a reason of why you need/want the rights or why you are qualified to be granted them. You have ~9,000 contributions globally which I find to be quite low. In your request you also state that you want to “ change certain names and usernames on the local wiki.” You rename users globally, so that doesn’t make any sense. I would reapply again once you have over 10,000 global edits and when you are capable of explaining to the community that you are qualified and why you need the rights. Illusion Flame (talk) 22:07, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Neutral because there are translation issues that prevent me from accurately assessing the candidate. Illusion Flame (talk) 11:02, 5 May 2023 (UTC)- FWIW I don't think you can rightfully assess the (in)experience of a user with multiple thousands of edits just by checking their edit count against an idiosyncratic threshold, nor do I see why, were the user indeed inexperienced, this should magically change from a 10% increase in that number. As for the concern concerning the nomination, I pinged the user below for clarification and would advise against piling on before we get a response. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 15:38, 4 May 2023 (UTC)- If we receive a response, I will happily change my !vote, but until then it stays. Illusion Flame (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @1234qwer1234qwer4: The respond we received says “I need this permission to rename articles” This isn’t even correct. Illusion Flame (talk) 01:25, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose, it’s not necessary, and there’s no reason for you to need the rights, especially when it’s not exactly the least damaging right. Zippybonzo (talk) 17:51, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 15:26, 4 May 2023 (UTC)- Comment Hello again. I need this permission to rename articles on wikis that need to be renamed, and to respond to username change requests. By local wiki, I mean a wiki in any foreign language (for example: enwiki). Wealszy (talk) 17:05, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
Question: I like to give you the chance to explain your request a bit more (like 1234qwer1234qwer4), before that, before that I can't really make a fair decision. --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 15:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose I do not understand your reasoning. What is "the local wiki"? You want to change "certain names and usernames" but renamers can just rename users and noting else. --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:42, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Let me ask you @Wealszy:, is there something on az.wiki that inspired you to make this request? Maybe give your answer in Azeri (alongside English) if you're more comfortable with that. Leaderboard (talk) 17:16, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard Requests are made by various users regarding the change of username in Azwiki. I want this permission to speed up the response to those requests. Wealszy (talk) 17:22, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

- Support. This is clearly a good-faith request by a user who wants to work mainly on az-wiki. While I note that there doesn't seem to be a significant queue in the az-specific page, that in itself should not be a reason to disqualify such a user (after all, most may do this in Meta). Edit count, while not high, isn't that low that one can reasonably argue that the user is unqualified or unexperienced either. The only stickling point is that you don't seem to have adminship, which most rename candidates are usually expected to have as they often use it to process unblock requests, for instance. All in all, I think most of the opposes I see can be traced down to a lost-in-translation, and hence I'm giving you the benefit of doubt as a borderline application. Leaderboard (talk) 17:41, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- I am not sure the candidate understands what the permissions even do because they said “I need this permission to rename articles.” This makes no sense. Illusion Flame (talk) 01:28, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Illusion Flame:, I think what's happening is that the candidate's native language is not English, and they are trying to internally translate from Azeri, which is causing "lost-in-translation" problems. For example, in your above quote, they would well be meaning "users" when they said "articles". Leaderboard (talk) 04:36, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose Not a sysop on any wiki, and their edit count on azwiki isn't phenomenal either. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 07:27, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- @SHB2000, I've never seen it stated anywhere that being an admin on any wiki is required before having global rename permission. According to the policy, These requests will run for at least two weeks, and require consensus for promotion and a support margin of at least 80%. While I am here, I am not in favour of and do not oppose this participant. DreamRimmer (talk) 12:23, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- I never said it was a policy (in fact, there's nothing formalised about this) – I generally oppose any candidate who's not a sysop on any wiki (regardless of size) until they've demonstrated that they're trustworthy (and are a GS, per se). In this case, the candidate does not seem to understand the scope of this role, and their (relatively) low edit count only accentuates my point. SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 12:28, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose Global Rename is a sensitive tool. I think having sysop access in a project or user's cross-wiki activity is one of the evidences of suitability for this tool. I can't support you right now, sorry. --—MdsShakil (talk) 15:25, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Weak oppose because you are not active outside of azwiki and wikidata. (It would actually be an Oppose, but due to AGF and the translation issues - “I need this permission to rename articles” - I'm lowering it a bit.) --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 15:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Huggums537
- Global user: Huggums537 (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi. I edit English Wikipedia and Commons plus a couple others now and again. My concerns are security and privacy. The Wikimedia sites are the only ones that make me turn off my VPNs or use non privacy-masking browsers (such as TOR etc.). I have two lengthy blocks on my record, but both of those blocks required a standard checkuser investigation, and no evidence of sockpuppeting has ever been found because it is just something I don't do. I've been back in good standing for probably at least two years now, and I made good on my promise to create a new article (2 of them now in fact). Also, if it helps, I did gain additional user rights after my unblock so this should promote the idea I can be a trusted user. I promise to use the exemption responsibly as a show of my gratitude for my continuous security to be enabled. I have also requested the exemption via email at the local level on English Wikipedia, but want to cover my bases for other places I might edit as well. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 10:00, 9 May 2023 (UTC) Updated on 10:28, 9 May 2023 (UTC) Updated again on 21:36, 9 May 2023 (UTC) Updated one final time on 21:44, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Given the block history mentioned, I would be most comfortable moving forward here after the local IP block exemption flag is granted (and you are likely to encounter local blocks not covered by GIPBE anyway). --Base (talk) 10:05, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sure. Thanks for responding. I'm still waiting for a reply from my local CU's, and I believe many of them are familiar with my unblocking situation as well so I agree they will be best to grant exemption first also. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 14:24, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
