Steward requests/Global permissions

This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===

}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Global rename for Xaosflux

Not ending before 9 March 2020 03:33 UTC
Hello all, I'm a bureaucrat, admin, and oversighter from enwiki and local meta-wiki oversighter and admin. I am familiar with the policy and am available to help with the rename queue. As a local oversighter, we occasionally get requests referring to the private rename system (generally declining with explanations) so being able to see the comments from Special:GlobalRenameRequests would be useful when processing such requests as well. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your consideration, — xaosflux Talk 03:33, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global rename for Aldnonymous

Not ending before 15 March 2020 09:10 UTC

I was previously global renamer that got removed due to inactivity (about same reason as to why my GS removed due to inactivity), I'm asking this permission to be restored as there are no Indonesian global renamer available (except one who are currently on hiatus), and other global renamer had to ask rationale in Indonesian quite many times. I am also able to handle all request for most asian language. I am currently a Global Sysops, Indonesian Wikipedia Administrator and Meta Administrator, thank you.--AldnonymousBicara? 09:10, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global rename for Nosebagbear

Not ending before 16 March 2020 15:20 UTC

Hi all, I'm an en-wiki Admin and an OTRS agent. Both of these provide some of my reasoning to requesting the user-right. Through my unblock request & UAA work in the former, there are cases where an otherwise resolved case can get snarled up and would be eased by having the right. While there are of course some routes around, with the usual inexperience of most requesting editors, it would be beneficial to be able to handle it myself. OTRS also has instances where it would be helpful to be able to process it myself, rather than needing to divert editors through another inbox I don't have access to. I'd also anticipate working the general renaming queue(s).

Please let me know if you have any questions. I don't currently have a language userbox (I'm purely a native English speaker), but would be happy to add one. Nosebagbear (talk) 15:20, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Support Per the usual standard at SRGP that a relatively active, good standing enwp admin who is interested to work in username unblocks should get it. Yeah, a userbox may be useful to some extent. --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 15:25, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose per Camouflaged Mirage. I don't recall GR rights being bundled with enwiki sysop access. Nihlus 23:17, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    @Nihlus: What I mean is that typically we will have the same objections, but then enwp have a rule that says account cannot be unblocked until renamed, hence, it's sort of valid use. Based on the past year applications, the same objections raised but then the results is always there is consensus for promotion to GR. Hence, I had sort of taken the stand to support all enwp sysops asking for the right (and arwp etc) so long as they are active, without any clouds above their head. More hands is always better?--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:07, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Support Trusted and willing to work in area. So why not?‐‐1997kB (talk) 16:02, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Strainubot

Bot running from the cloud, Thanks.--Strainu (talk) 10:31, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for FerdiBf

My IP is blocked and the alledged reason is "Open Proxy". I am an author in the German wikipedia with more than 18k edits and more than 400 articles. I have no idea, why this block applies to me. I am not aware of anything that I could have done wrong. It happens from time to time that I am blocked for a short while which is very annoying. A global exemption would be very helpful, thanks --FerdiBf (talk) 19:12, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not that I have any issue with granting you the exemption, but maybe you use a VPN or similar tool? Would you be willing to share the error message to stewards@wikimedia.org, so we can check the block was really placed correctly, and that you are, for some reason, indeed connecting via an open proxy? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:27, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for germandemat

I need to work in China occasionally and I need to edit Wikimedia Commons, the English and Chinese wikipedia, Wikiquote etc. I can't edit if I'm blocked by using VPN or TOR. A global exemption would be very helpful, thanks, --Germandemat (talk) 19:19, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for RafaelS1979

I often use a VPN for security and privacy reasons. I'm a frequent editor mainly on the french and english Wikipedias and I always have to log off my VPN whenever I want to edit on Wikipedia, which is, to be honest, really annoying. It would help to have a permanent IP block exemption. thanks, --RafaelS1979 (talk) 11:04, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done --Martin Urbanec (talk) 18:57, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I thought that by requesting here it would also be applied on Wikipedia, which from what I saw, doesn't work because I'm still blocked from editing on Wikipedia with a VPN. So from what I understand, I need to request the IP exemption on Wikipedia also?

Edit: I can edit with my VPN on french wiki but it doesn't work on the english wiki.

Regards,

RafaelS1979 (talk) 22:35, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RafaelS1979: the Global IP Block Exemption does not exempt you from the local block at enwiki. You should follow the local instructions at enwiki to request a local exemption. —Thanks for the fish! talkcontribs 02:18, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for AsharaDayne

Hello, I come from China Mainland. I am an active editor of Chinese Wikipedia. For reasons known to all, I need a VPN to login in it currently. I need the permission for editing links on Wikidata. Thanks. --AsharaDayne (talk) 09:14, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AsharaDayne, could you comment your English Wikipedia block, please? --Base (talk) 08:18, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Base, I had some edit wars with other editors because I didn't know the rules at that time. But the reason why they banned me was unacceptableby, the administrator of English Wikipedia thought I was another user's dummy account according to en:Wikipedia:The duck test. AsharaDayne (talk) 11:16, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@AsharaDayne: The block should be appealled to Unblock Ticket Request System. You should explicitly state whether you are the alleged sock master in your unblock request. (You are not banned.)--GZWDer (talk) 16:10, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GZWDer:, Thanks, I will try it. AsharaDayne (talk) 07:48, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for 長安城根喚朱雀

I am from mainland China,and I know how to edit Wikipedia correctly. I have enthusiasm and experiences in editing. Sometimes I see errors that need to be corrected, but I cannot be edited just because the VPN,so I apply, thanks, --長安城根喚朱雀 (talk) 17:21, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Where did you experience difficulties in editing except Chinese Wikipedia(zhwiki)? --Sotiale (talk) 09:57, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Davidwhy

Hello! I am from China Mainland. Because zh.wikipedia.org is blocked on the China GFW, I cannot access Wikipedia without an open proxy or a VPN. I had, and will, only edit when there is some small minor errors. So, if you could give me a global IP block exempt, I would be very grateful. Thanks, --DavidwhyDavidwhy (talk) 03:58, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Davidwhy, do you intend to edit other wikis than zh.wikipedia.org? If not, a local Chinese Wikipedia exemption, zh:Wikipedia:IP封禁例外, would do you a better job than the global one. --Base (talk) 14:15, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Davidwhy, ? --Base (talk) 04:46, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thank you! --DavidWhy

Global editinterface and deleter for Pathoschild (renewal)

I use the global editinterface and global deleter permissions to run the Synchbot service and maintain scripts crosswiki (mainly the former now). Although I'm not an active editor anymore, I run Synchbot regularly every month to clear all queued requests. Stewards have said they'd rather not take over Synchbot, so I'd like to continue this work. :) —Pathoschild 14:59, 01 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global edit interface for Krinkle (renewal)

Hi, I use the Interface editor permission to help maintain gadgets and site scripts on our wikis, especially in response to changes made to the MediaWiki software, to ensure they remain compatible and follow best practices for performance and security, and any other maintenance as requested by local communities. I've actively served in the interface editors group since 2011 (original request, 2019 renewal), and would like to continue this work. Thanks! --Krinkle (talk) 16:33, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
