Steward requests/Global permissions
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Global rollback for Savh
- Global user: Savh (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 3 October 2020 11:56 UTC
I would appreciate being able to use the rollback function globally again, to continue SWMT activity. I previously had access to the global rollbacking functions from March 2011 until my resignation as steward in September 2017, and I believe I could benefit from using this tool now again. ADD Global IP block exempt for Marek Torba
- Global user: Marek Torba (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi, I would like to ask for an IP block exemption for the abovementioned user. As noted on his pl.wiki userpage, this is a staffer of a Polish museum (Wawel Royal Castle in Cracow), taking a part in the most recent GLAM partnership of Wikimedia Polska. The global IP block removal is vital for e.g. Commons work and upload. On behalf of the WMPL, aegis maelstrom δ 19:14, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Add Global IP block exempt for BrunoBoehmler
- Global user: BrunoBoehmler (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Ich bin viel mit VPN online und möchte auch ohne Probleme in Wikipedia editieren können, thanks, --BrunoBoehmler (talk) 18:29, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Question Why do you need to use a VPN with Wikipedia? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:14, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- BrunoBoehmler, do you mind responding please? --Base (talk) 05:45, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't have to use a VPN for Wikipedia, just for some other services. I don't always want to switch back and forth, that's all. Thank you in advance --BrunoBoehmler (talk) 15:30, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- In that case, I think turning it off and on is usually desired because this user right is mostly reserved for the people in the area where VPN is absolutely needed - like, in China (and Hong Kong) or Iran, you can be dragged into government torturing facility just because you "don't uphold the Government's truth". Or where the access to Wikipedia is blocked and you need a VPN to even read it (=China) — regards, Revi 15:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Theodore Ehrenborg
- Global user: Theodore Ehrenborg (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I use a VPN to avoid ad trackers and out of general paranoia.
I don't edit Wikipedia (i.e. English Wikipedia) very often, maybe twice a month. Usually it's a spontaneous decision: I'm reading an article, and I see a typo, a missing citation, or some other small problem. Turning off my VPN before the edit and turning it on after the edit doubles how much time I have to spend. So I haven't fixed the last few typos I've seen because it's too much of a hassle to fiddle with my VPN. Theodore Ehrenborg (talk) 13:39, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- I looked at my edit history, and I've made 12 Wikipedia edits in the past year. So "twice a month" is an overestimate. Theodore Ehrenborg (talk) 13:42, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- If you primarily edit on English Wikipedia, you most likely would want local IPBE instead, since English Wikipedia also blocks the VPNs independent of the global blocks. And we don't hand out if you use it on single project. — regards, Revi 13:48, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- PS: If you get IP block Exemption (IPBE) on English Wikipedia, that will automatically exclude you from global blocks and local block, but Global IP Block Exemption (GIPBE) doesn't make you immune from the local block. In either case, since you are primarily active on English Wikipedia, I believe you should apply for IP Block Exemption on English Wikipedia. see how. — regards, Revi 14:01, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks—I tried applying for local IPBE using Wikipedia's Unblock Ticket Request System, but it told me, "We were not able to locate your block." It looks like you're recommending that I email checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org, so I'll do that. The reason I applied for a global unblock is that the block message sent me here, and I didn't know about local unblocks. Theodore Ehrenborg (talk) 14:09, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- They granted me an unblock. Thanks for the advice! Theodore Ehrenborg (talk) 07:29, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
