This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Global sysop for Samuele2002

Hello everyone I'm Samuele2002 I'm global rollbacker since 2017 and I'm very active in the fight against vandalism and cross-wiki spam. I am requesting global sysop permissions to help deal more effectively with vandalism and spam on small wikis, to help small wikis without local admin and to give help in the management of requests on GSR [1]. Thanks. --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 21:07, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global sysop for Operator873

Not ending before 11 July 2020 02:18 UTC

Greetings and salutations. I'm requesting the global sysop toolkit in order further expand my efforts against global spam, LTAs, and, occasionally, low level vandalism. I have found a lot of pleasure in seeking out hidden spam links and combating spambot activities. The bulk of my xwiki activity is related to this end and therefore does not reflect actual edits as evidenced by my frequent requests on SR/G. However, with the global sysop tool set, I'd be able to take more direct action on the items I find. I'm currently a Sysop and CheckUser on the Simple English Wikipedia and the writer/owner of GlobalSysBot (the Global Sysop Bot). Thank you for your kind consideration. Global rename for Nadzik

Not ending before 8 July 2020 11:51 UTC

Hi! I would like to request global renamer permissions. I am an active editor on pl.wikipedia and Wikidata. Recently I've started editing af.wikipedia and joined Small Wiki Monitoring Team. I've read and learned the Global rename policy, I've also read the past requests (both accepted and rejected), in order to familiarize myself with the type of job I would be responsible for. For the moment there is only one polish speaking Global renamer and due to her duties, she has not been active in the last few months. Due to a large number of GLAM accounts on pl.wiki I would also be able to help them locally, as they are usually not experienced users and the thought of META is usually overwhelming for them. I could handle the rename requests as the summer just started and I've got some more free time. I will resign these permissions when they are no longer needed or when I won't be able to use them actively. I hope that my intentions are clear, I would be happy to answer any questions if necessary. Cheers! Nadzik (talk) 11:51, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse filter helper for Stanglavine

I have identified, blocked and reported spam activities as a GS. I have done this mainly through SWViwer and through individual lists of "wikis to monitor" that I create myself. However, I would like to have access of global abuse filters logs (many are private, for obvious reasons) as they would help to centralize my work. I am specifically interested in abusefilter-log-private permission and I intend to use them only in global filters (46, 76, 233, 250, 251, others that may be useful 72, 100, 101, 132, 169, 190, 234) mainly to track spambots. I think global abuse filters logs of this private filters can be of great help, and to access them I need to be a meta sysop or abuse filter helper, so I make this request. I have no intention of using this permission for anything other than global filters. Thanks for consideration, and open for questions. --Rafael (stanglavine) msg 19:31, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Nadzik: yes, I thought about this possibility, but it seemed to me that abuse filter help had the most appropriate scope for what I need. I may have been wrong, but I already opened the request here, so I don't know if it's worth thinking about now. Rafael (stanglavine) msg 16:46, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global interface admin rights for User:Jayprakash12345

Not ending before 08:09, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

I would like to nominate myself for the global interface admin rights. I am a voluntary lead developer of Indic-TechCom, a regional technical group. I joined Wikipedia in 2015. and start contributing to Wikimedia's technical space in 2017. I am also a Wikimedia's Google summer of code 2019 Intern, MediaWiki extensions developer, MediaWiki trainer, Editor having 19,000+ edits, Technical Officer in Heritage GLAM. I created 10+ UserScripts, 10 Toolsforge tools. I was a Technical resource person/Organizer of 7 MediaWiki/Technical programs. My 512 patches out 556 have been merged at Gerrit Wikimedia. So there is two motivations for applying. First, there are lack of skilled interface admins in Indic languages (excluding Hindi). Due to this, Indic wikis don't maintenance the gadgets actively. Second as a team, We are getting requests regarding gadget fixes. I took 5 times to interface admin rights to the local wiki. See Indic-TechCom/Management#User_rights_Details. I also guided to the local admins/users How to fix things. Example are

These are only examples. I guide actively on email a lot. Teaching "How to fix the issue" to the non-technical person is less productive and may rise the breaking of the site. So now it times to take responsibility. I have created mw:MediaWiki:Gadget-tabbedwindow.js like gadgets for MediaWiki.org Dev community. and ran Writing user scripts & gadgets workshops. So it demonstrates the capabilities that I have at least intermediate knowledge of scripts. This user rights will overcome above both issue. Thank you--Jayprakash >>> Talk 08:09, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Support Trusted user and apt for this role -- Gopavasanth (talk) 10:05, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support Strong support At several times in the past Jay had received temporary interface-admin rights on Indic wikis - in several cases where there are no interface admins on those wikis. When community needs a fix quickly, it is delayed due to nomination process on local wiki, and then a wait for 7-14 days, before temporary rights are given. This cycle repeats again after a few weeks, where something else has to be fixed. As Jay had been consistently working to resolve tech issues on Indic Wiki and largely the sole player in the area, having these rights will help him save a lot of time. KCVelaga (talk) 10:39, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question Question: From my understanding, it seems this reequest is aimed at the wikis related to the Indic Tech-com. Is that right? Wouldn't requesting interface adminship at a few individual wikis do a better job? Thanks for your answer, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:42, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Martin Urbanec, Yes, This request is aimed for wikis related to Indic languages. I requested rights on individual wikis for a week in the past. But every time I had to wait for a week then request on meta page. It took an average of 10 days. And frankly speaking, I spent most of the time in traveling. So I don't know what will be my situation after 10 days later. There are 24 Indic Languages and these languages have projects such as Wikipedia, Wikibooks, and Wikisource etc. I think there is no sense to nominate on 50+ wikis?--Jayprakash >>> Talk 11:23, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Support I usually don't comment on such requests, however lack of interface admins is a recurring problem when something has changed in MediaWiki's CSS handling, and sometimes people find it easier to file tickets in Phabricator to ask for help (which is the wrong place for on-wiki content support) instead of trying to find out how to find and contact global interface admins. Here are three examples from the last two weeks from Indic wikis. I can see Jayprakash as a great point of contact and help, not only for fixing such problems but as he is also a trusted contributor and willing to actively share his technical knowledge with others so they can fix these problems on their wikis in the future. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 12:06, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Support Support Per Jayprakash's explanation and Andre's vouche, I support this request. It indeed doesn't make sense requesting the right at 20+ language versions. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:11, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong support Strong support Jay Prakash is one the most skilful and experienced people in the technical work in South Asian Region. Without his consistent support for supporting with the MediaWiki patches, fixing bugs, and creating wonderful tools such as Stats calculator for Wikisource project, BookReader tool that allows readers to read books on Wikisource in a format similar to the Internet Archive, Activeuser, OCR Tool that automatically OCR the page with one click without hassle of running the OCR on entire book from Linux which is technical and Commmon editors cannot use well, very innovative Wikisource Contest tool, and he is currently working on building self sustainable tool for Wikipedia contests that would be very supportive for communities to calculate stats which are currently done with Fountain tool or dashboard. Without his support, Wikisource communities would not be able to function the way they do. Last year, there were some technical issues in Indic Wikisource projects due to which the entire project site were not picking up images of the books for proofreading, which created problems for editors who could not proofread for a month or so. Jay Prakash stepped in to work on the JS script and helped the 15+ Wikisource projects to remove those issues. This may sound like a long story in endorsement but his VOLUNTEER efforts are incomparable and he is someone who has kind and open demeanor and he always is supporting different projects/programs in the backdrop to ensure the technical side of the work runs smoothly.
