Join the LDH General Assembly | April 18, 2026
[edit]We are delighted to invite you to the General Assembly of the Language Diversity Hub (LDH) on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at 13:00 UTC.
About the General Assembly
[edit]The General Assembly (GA) is a community-wide consultation and engagement space. It is the primary forum through which LDH connects with the broader language and Wikimedia communities. The GA is designed to:
- Keep community members informed about LDH activities, decisions, and ongoing work.
- Gather feedback and perspectives from across the language and Wikimedia ecosystem.
- Create open pathways for participation, collaboration, and community-driven input.
How to participate
[edit]Everyone is welcome! If you work on language access, language diversity, or Wikimedia projects in any language community, this is a space for you.

Looking forward to your participation,
Language Diversity Hub Team, 18:21, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

What to do with those Wikinews language requests?
[edit]Special:Prefixindex/Requests for new languages/Wikinews told me that there are several requests for new languages pages specifically requesting new language editions of Wikinews (and many of them are marked as eligible), I wonder that if and should those eligibility of them be revoked and finally mark them rejected? Or should those be technically "approved" despite board decided to close all of them (and hence create subdomains of them one per one and following board's decision, close them together by 4 May 2026)? ~2026-21676-19 (talk) 05:38, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-21676-19: It wouldn't make any sense to approve them in any way at this point, if only for the fact that none of them (as far as I can tell) have the necessary level of activity in the Incubator. So they should be closed en masse, but I don't know about the timing of that. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 13:25, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Deleting en masse the new language editions of Wikinews, especially those with already few hundreds to thousands main articles, although painful but inevitably be done (due to all of them did not hatch from the Incubator before the confirmation of the closure of Wikinews project). It is just that before deleting all of them, it will be great if some grace period would be conveyed to the local language community to archive the content somewhere else. Hakimi97 (talk) 20:12, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Hakimi97: Yes, I don't think anyone has the intention of wiping them altogether without making the content available in some other form. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 07:57, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
