- Personal info: (English)Hi I’m Johannes, a law student from Germany. I’m a dewiki & metawiki admin, as well as global sysop & global rollbacker. As a member of the Wikiproject:Antispam and the Small Wiki Monitoring Team, I devote much of my wiki time to fighting crosswiki spam, vandalism & LTA. While I can do most of that using the local/global permissions I currently have (e.g. editing the global spamblacklist [1] or dealing with vandalism/test edits at small wikis [2]), I frequently file SRG requests [3] or request steward action through other communication channels like Discord when quick action against ongoing xwiki vandalism is needed.
Even though the current SRG backlog is not as bad as it used to be sometimes last year [4][5], there is still plenty of work where I would like to help, if you trust me with steward permissions. I would also support at other steward request pages like SRP, SRGP or SRM – pages I’m already familiar with as well [6][7][8]. Lastly I would be happy to contribute to the Wikimedia Stewards User Group supporting steward coordination.
Thanks for your consideration, I’m looking forward to your feedback and any questions you may have. --Johannnes89 (talk) 21:57, 19 January 2024 (UTC) - Questions: See Stewards/Elections 2024/Questions#Johannnes89

The only problem is that you struggled to handle some of the nuances of the question I set individually for you on the global ArbCom (such as citing UCOC) - but that's OK since not only am I not expecting perfection, that question was meant to stretch the more able candidates as well. - Paradise Chronicle (Eligible, checked by Sdrqaz) • obvious no. I was outed in the German wiki and he seemed to have read of my accusation as he linked to the edit where I mentioned that (Link Number 5) and didn't take action at all except for reinstating my block. Sorry, but that's a no go for me. Also that you mention that a fresh start is possible also to indeffed editors in your home wiki (I assume its the German one) but refuse to unblock someone who was blocked for 3 years...for 8 undisputed and valid edits. I was even suggested to request my unblock from a German admin. I have made the outing accusation also to the German ArbCom, but also there, to no avail.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 09:48, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- These are quite serious allegations, so I would like to respond briefly: You violated a ruling by our dewiki ArbCom, disallowing you to use any sockpuppets [9]. As long as this ruling is in effect, you are not allowed to try a fresh start with a new account at dewiki. You repeatedly lied about being a sockpuppet – not just to our community, but to the enwiki ArbCom as well which got you site banned at enwiki [10]. There has not been any outing. Identifying this account as a sockpuppet of another account (User451819913) is not posting personal information, this happened at enwiki as well by the way. And despite your blatant violation of dewiki (and enwiki) policy (which you tried to downplay at your unblock request [11]) your account User451819913 is still allowed to edit at dewiki (except regarding those articles where you are topic banned by our ArbCom). --Johannnes89 (talk) 10:45, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- Would have been nice if any of the declining admins could have mentioned that I was allowed to edit with the other account. See you in the German wiki, then. And the outing was not just mentioning the other account. He outet me with my real name and on wiki. I have not made my real name known publicly on wikipedia except when I was mentioning that outing. Johannes89 approach to an outing doesn't convince me. Staying at no. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 12:35, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of anyone outing your real name. If someone did so, you might want to ask dewiki oversighters for removal. Johannnes89 (talk) 13:33, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip, would have been great that anyone would have told me that before, like the German Arbcom when I approached them with that. And my other account remains blocked, just tried to edit and it was not possible, it is you who appear as the admin who blocked me. Happy editing. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 20:22, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- After an appeal in which I explained my situation I am now enabled to edit again in the German wikipedia. It seems I was not literally blocked, only technically. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 00:53, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- The German oversight team then revdeled the outing. That you tried to turn an outing against me and even deny it, is at least contrary to AGF.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 12:18, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- As I said above: I'm not aware of anyone outing you, I've never seen anyone mentioning your real name. I obviously don't know any details, neither being part of the dewiki ArbCom nor the dewiki oversight team. But I'm glad your issue has been resolved. Johannnes89 (talk) 12:58, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

- Unite together (Eligible, checked by Mtarch11) • While I trust his ability for sysop on de.wp, there indeed exists rationale for me to vote against. I joined several Discord servers created by Wikimedia communities, among which is the server for German-speaking users. My personal profile on Discord contained the slogan "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" before (members from French community may prove this, as I've been active in their channels). One day I asked something in the German channel, they solved my question. But hours later, Johannnes89 directly messaged me right inside Discord, leaving some vaguely threatening messages to make me remove that slogan. His reason was "the slogan was forbidden in Germany, they have to adhere to both US and German law, also inappropriate from the perspective of Germany history", and I followed his word back then. As a steward, his remarks would be problematic. This action might not be inappropriate for him to be a local sysop, for he's just dealing local issues with sysop access; however, being a steward means dealing with issues everywhere: these are vastly different. As for me, his demand is okay, because I'm non-Muslim. But what if he makes the same demand to those people who're even more deeply connected (especially people from Arabic world)? He may face strong oppositions, or even incur severe conflicts! Why should he impose POV of himself or his nation onto others? That's not what a steward should do! (p.s. I might not post his words here for it's a private message. If someone needs evidence for this, I'd send an email into VRT queue for reference) U.T. 07:16, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm part of the moderator team of the dewiki Discord community. When you asked a question on our servers main channel the moderator team was notified by another user that your profile contained a slogan which might be illegal according to German law. We believe German law applies to a German discord server run by German citizens, therefore feared to be held liable by German authorities for allowing such content.
- I wrote the following which I believe was not threatening but rather a simple request in order to resolve a potential legal problem: „It has been brought to our attention that your discord profile uses the phrase „from the river to the sea...“. Please note that this slogan has been forbidden recently in Germany. As we are Germans running a German Wikipedia Discord server, we need all users on this discord server to adhere to both US and German law, because our team might by held liable in Germany / the European Union for any illegal content on this server. We therefore ask you to either change your local or global about me section. Thanks!“
- In addition I send you a link explaining the recent decision by our government to ban the slogan you were using. I'm sorry if you felt threatened by my message, that was not our intention. As you likely do not live in Germany you would not face any consequences for using such a slogan, but we as moderators might very well if a court decided that we are responsible for the content displayed on our server. --Johannnes89 (talk) 08:17, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, sir. To call it "threatening" may have overstated your attitude, sorry for that. However, without knowing the background, your urging me to change my description in profile makes me feel unwarranted as my area haven't placed a ban on slogans related to Palestine; or, it was confusing for me. Should you get elected, IMHO you may not interfere with these issues, especially in Wikimedia chat groups on external platforms (What if the person you're talking to is a real Muslim / Palestinian rather than normal supporters like me?). -- U.T. 08:48, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry I thought the link + screenshot attached to my message would explain why we feared your profile might be illegal in Germany. And in hindsight I should have provided additional information why we believe German courts might rule against us moderators for other users content on our server. We believed it was better to keep the message short and clarify any questions later, probably should have explained our thoughts in more detail (although I'm surprised to hear this now, if there were any uncertainties you could have just asked me in our discord chat).
- I want to point out that this is not just my personal interpretation of German law, I delivered the message after our moderator team discussed this internally and collectively decided to send this message, believing that we had a legal obligation to act as soon as we were notified.
- If elected, I will of course recuse myself from issues where people might assume a bias against certain users or in case of conflict of interest, e.g. I would not deal with the current RfC related to the arwiki protest. Johannnes89 (talk) 09:19, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
