Stewards/Confirm/2016

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Warning

These steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2016–17 Confirmation will begin on February 8, and will finish on February 28th.

The 2016–17 Steward Confirmations are a good opportunity to check if we are still happy with our current stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, here is how things are organized.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before February 1st 2016. During the 2016 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2016 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: Hello everyone. It's been a privilege to serve the community as a steward over the last two years, and I would be glad to continue on in this role with your approval. Over the last year I have focused on cross-wiki work, particularly counter-spam and vandalism removal. I have also been active answering requests on the steward requests pages and the OTRS queue. I still have time and energy to devote to steward work, and will remain active in this role over the next year if confirmed. Any questions / comments / concerns are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks, Ajraddatz (talk) 01:04, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: It is again with pleasure that I note that the steward body has been able to support the Wikimedia family of projects. I once again request of you the privilege and opportunity to continue to serve Wikimedia as a steward. With my term on the m:Ombudsman commission coming to a close, I look forward to returning to checkuser and oversight duties together with permissions. As always, I appreciate your collective trust in allowing me this opportunity, and I hope to continue to be worthy of your trust in the coming year.

  • Personal info: It's been five years since I've been made a steward. Since then I've been more or less active, depending on my real life. While I was more active during my first years of services, I think I maintained a good level of activity in the more recent years. I'm daily available on IRC to help whenever help is needed. For urgent matters (like oversight requests), I'm available at really any time of the day by mail. In the past year, I served as a member of the Ombudsmen Commission and was asked if I'd like to serve for another term, which I'm now doing. I think I managed both roles adequately and got them not conflicted, which means there is no problem for me to do both jobs for another year if the community is willing to support me again. As always, if you've questions, just ask. I'm happy to answer them.

  • Personal info: Hi all, sorry for not able to make the statements on time due to traveling to the states, and home just for the Chinese New Year yesterday. I still wishes to remain as an active stewards so that I could continue the work that I've done in the previous years. My statement and position has not changed from previous years, and that is to make the WMF projects to be as safe as possible from vandals, spammers, abusers. While this year saw a reduction of time I could committed to the steward tasks, but nonetheless I try to online at IRC and elsewhere as much as possible, so for this year I would also like your support for another year of serving this community. • Personal info: After a turbulent start in the ElectCom with different understandings of Steward confirmations, stewards together with WMF, global renamers, and many more supporters could accomplish the SUL finalization much smoother than expected (see lego’s presentation at Wikimania). Despite years of preparation and hundreds of helping hands (see my last confirmation statement), the forcible rename of millions of accounts as a unique invasive operation could have resulted in plenty of problems. I am proud to be part of the team that helped to avoid that (find the core team in an image on the right). After having accomplished one of my main goals as a steward since my first election in 2007 and with new duties at my jobs, I had to refocus my steward activities.

I still do some CheckUser, global anti-vandalism, and similiar stuff but nowadays I’m more interested in helping my dear fellows to work in a healthy, fruitful environment. Therefore, I am also in close connection with the WMF for global ban discussions, and development of a global user merge tool (which unfortunately will very likely not be developed soonish, see phabricator task). Further, I helped prepare the first-ever real-life steward meeting at the Wikimedia Foundation’s and published a German summary. As far as I can see, such joint activities led to a closer relationship among stewards and better coordination. If confirmed I intend to continue these activities in addition to handling selective general steward requests.
