As the year, at least according to the calendar used by Tech News, is drawing to end, I wanted to say thanks for the Tech News translations – both as a person writing Tech News and a Wikimedia editor who cares about the movement. Statistical data

Hi Le Loy, I am local organizer of 2016 Asian month from Sinhala Wikipedia. In the judging tool that we have been provided, i can't find any option for to find the number of words, size and other statistical data of an article. OAuth tool

I've noticed that the OAuth tool doesn't differentiate between articles created in a sandbox and articles create in the mainspace. I just created an article, en:George Wall (planter) and it was declined as I created the article in draft in my sandbox in October. It clearly needs to be adjusted to be able to determine the difference between a draft and an actual article. Dan arndt (talk) 07:21, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Dan arndt, the article en:George Wall (planter) has been rejected because it was created well before the edit-a-thon start time and date. To my understanding, edit-a-thons like WAM only accept articles that have been created after the edit-a-thon start, but let's ask the EnWP jury members AddisWang, Titodutta, SuperHamster, and Rosiestep to comment. Ситуация такова: участник создал статью, но с ошибкой в названии, другой участник переименовал их (перенёс) без пересылки. Что делать первому участнику в таком случае? Ведь теперь "Фонтан" пишет "Статья не найдена", что логично. Попробовать добавить ещё раз?

И второй вопрос. В условиях контеста писалось, что минимальный размер статьи должен быть 300 слов. Я ради теста попробовал добавить меньшую статью, всё равно показывает зелёную галочку. Так и надо? --Artificial123 (talk) 07:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Artificial123, я могу исправить название статьи на новое руками, если скажете ники обоих и название статьи.

Фонтан пускает статьи меньше 300 слов, если их размер больше 3 КБ, местное жюри может решить, что, например, 280 слов — это нормально. А может решить, что надо 300 слов и поставить «незачёт». Я сделал в рувики жёсткое условие на 300 слов, если хотите, вам тоже сделаю. Le Loy 08:19, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Wrong time

Hello Le Loy! I wanted to add some articles at Asian month competition, but the tool is registering the wrong time. I posted them after 0:00 MET, 1st November (check history of the articles) but the tool said, it would have been after 23:00 on 31st October: de:Belagerung Colombos, de:Resolution 2037 des UN-Sicherheitsrates, de:Gaspar de Figueira de Serpa. J. Patrick Fischer, it turns out DeWiki shows edit's time in UTC+1. So in reality your article has been created on 23:00 31 October UTC, while WAM rules only allow articles created after 1 November UTC. Li Loy, i creates my article ਮਿਆਂਮਾਰ ਦਾ ਭੂਗੋਲ but when i tried to submit, it says 'Article not found'. And today when i created another new article, same thing was happened. Adapting Fountain for Wikiquote

Supported by Amical Wikimedia, we have extended the Asian Month to Catalan Wikiquote and we have begun by creating pages like Yosano Akiko. Could you adapt the application in Catalan language to be able to score pages created there? It's a nice opportunity to see the impact of your proposal in a sister project.

Hi Xavi Dengra, sure, no problem with any WM project, Fountain can handle that. I will create another edit-a-thon named Mes de l'Àsia a la Viquidites, description will be Wikiquote Asian Month 2016 Catalan edition, with Xavier Dengra as a jury, Fountain will check if the article was created from 1 Nov til 30 Nov, the article must have 3000 bytes, the namespace must be 0 (main), the article submitter must match the creator (only the original creator can submit the article), is it correct? I think in this case there's no real need in renaming Articles to Citation pages, am I right? There's a lot of messages like 'Article not found', I'm not sure if it's worth changing that to 'Citation page not found'... Or should I change it? Le Loy 02:35, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your quick reply. But do you think it could be possible to manage Fountain to handle Wikipedia and Wikiquote in the same edit-a-thon tool? We centralised the challenge page in Wikipedia because one of our goals is to encourage wikipedians in editing on sister projects, and by counting editions together we will enhance the target and make it easy for participants. If we have two different challenges, we will probably loose implication in both projects. So if you can add the option to add and punctuate both creations in the same tool, leave Kippelboy as the sole jury (or add me too if it's suitable) and add a second column called "Citation pages" to distinguish them from Wikipedia articles, we'd really be very grateful!! --Xavi Dengra (MESSAGES) 11:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Xavi Dengra, I'm afraid combined edit-a-thons are not supported at the moment. I might add that in the future though, but the development will take more than a month :-( Sorry... Also the global organisers might not agree with the idea of a combined score for different projects (e. g. it's supposedly easier to create WikiQuote entries, and by doing that the Catalan Wikipedia results might get a big boost). Fountain (WAM Tool) Translation

Hi White Demon, thanks for organising the WAM in Azerbaijani Wikipedia this year! I've noticed your translation of the WAM tool is a little problematic: 1) You don't have to translate the word 'English' to Azerbaijani, you need to provide the name of your language to show here. 2) 'The editathon will start XXX' and 'The editathon will end XXX' are both translated as 'Müsabiqə XXX başlayacaq', is it right? 3) Does the word 'symbol' have a plural form? You have translated both 'xxx symbol' and 'xxx symbols' as 'XXX simvol', is it correct? It means that Fountain (the WAM tool) will show '165 simvol' in Azerbaijani, is that right? Hi Le Loy. I fixed the mistakes. But "'xxx symbol' and 'xxx symbols' as 'XXX simvol', is it correct?", yeah it is correct. In Azerbaijani language noun doesn't receive plural form after numeral. Example, in English - "one car", in Azerbaijani - "bir maşın". But in English - "two cars", in Azerbaijani again in singular - "iki maşın".--White DemΩn (el psy congroo) 08:23, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Add Articles into WAM Judging tool

Dear Ле Лой, I am Ranithsiji, co-ordinator of WAM in Malayalam Wikipedia. I am facing a problem. In Malayalam wiki people (they are not technically that much sound) are not adding the articles into the judging tool. I am a person with judging rights. Even I cannot add these un added articles into the judging tool. Is there any way to add the articles into the tool for a co-ordinatior. Because contacting each editor and educate them to add the articles into the tool is a little bit impossible. If I can add the articles into the tool then that will be much more helpfull. It is not the problem with the translation. People are more concentrated on writing articles than maintaining statistics(I dont know why). A small team is managing the statistics of the edit-a-thons and maintanance. Also the writers in malayalam wikipedia are spread all over the world. I dont personally know most of the people. So communicating with all the editors and make sure all the articles are added is almost impossible task for me. If you can create an exception that a jury can add all the articles into the tool with the article creators name then that will be a great help for us. Other wise lot of articles will be missing out from judging tool. In malayalam wikipedia we are running a quarry system to collect all the articles. Can you do anything? Hoping for a replay. Ranjithsiji, currently there is no way for the jury members to add articles manually, but I'm planning to implement that later (next year maybe). [Judging Tool] Add comment after saving my judging

Hi. I gave "no" to a candidate article and saved that decision, and at a later time I thought to add a comment to it, but "Save" button at right bottom did not change to clickable state. Problem while adding comment in article

Hi, i am nirjal stha from nepali Wikipedia and i'm one of the jury members of WAM 2016 in Nepali wikipedia. While adding comment in article it does not allow me to save, save button remains in grey color and not respond on any action or clicks. Therefore i could not add any comment in the article. @Ле Лой: Yeah, I know. But edit-a-thon is the term most Portuguese Wikipedians are familiar with, as can be seen here, so that's why I decided to leave it as it is. I left will start because for a brief moment I thought that I wasn't supposed to translate 'will start', but reading the documentation better I do understand it now. It's already corrected (O edit-a-thon começará XXX and O edit-a-thon terminará XXX). If you want to, you can also set pt-br with the very same translation as well, since there's no difference in this case. Отлично! Да, насчет байтов опечатка. Да, дополнять можно, правда, эти статьи, скорее всего (так задумывалось), будут учтены только при подсчете общего итога одного наслега (при определении наслега-победителя, наиболее широко представленного в википедии), а не индивидуальных участников (которые могут писать статьи по разным наслегам, вне зависимости от места проживания). How to submit?

Sorry for the silly question, I too am new to this.

I made an article called Draft:Yong Ho (Academic), submitted for review, but am unable to submit for Wikipedian Asian Month using the Fountain tool.

Is this normal? If I have to wait 2-3 weeks for the approval/review does that put me outside November?

One of the articles submitted on the tool on fr.wiki has been renamed after being proposed. Due to its new name, the article can't be properly reviewed in the judging tool ; so I discovered that this article had been renamed (twice, by the way !). Should I advise to the creator of the article to submit it a new time, under its current name, so that it could been judged correctly ?

Поверьте моему экспертному мнению. Тыллаах - имеет/содержит столько-то слов (-лаах притяжательный суффикс). Тыллар - слова во множественном числе, но эта форма не используется при упоминании количества (1 тыл, 2 тыл, элбэх тыл - много слов). Ну а в данном контексте лучше использовать форму "тыллаах", так будет понятнее и будет правильно согласовываться с синтаксической конструкцией первой части предложения (там тоже -лаах, его вариант -таах). --HalanTul (talk) 13:00, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Я же не могу просто написать «для числа 160 выводить „тыллаах“», мне нужно понять, когда такая форма употребляется. С какими числительными её ставить, со всеми? Со всеми, кроме 1? Adding other organizers' votes on the judging interface

Do you think it'd be possible to add the other organizers' votes on the judging interface, so they can be seen by someone who's evaluating an article? I took the liberty to simulate what it'd sort of look like if put in practice here. The article being shown had already been judged by the five organizers, and their comments were suppressed to save space.
The problem is that there are, as of now, 213 articles submitted to WAM 2016 on pt-wiki. If the organizer can't see that someone else has already approved the article, he'd end up wasting time evaluating it, only to find out later that he could've used that time to validate an article still not judged.
It could also be implemented as a collapsed list in case you want the organizers' comments to be shown, or maybe if the organizers' name don't fit the taskbar. Thank you for your attention! --ArgonSim (talk) 19:50, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi ArgonSim, what I was trying to achieve by hiding jury's marks from each other is elimination of bias. We all are social animals, when you see a 'not accepted' by another jury member, you unconsciously start considering the article flawed too. Putting marks to articles in Fountain is (as far as I can tell) way easier than judging the 'traditional way', so I hope that's not too much of an issue... I translated the article "Battle of Awa" to spanish with the title Batalla de Awa, but it seems that previously existed another article with the same name that was renamed and, later, deleted. That article had nothing to do with the article I wrote, but somehow, my article was added to the history of the preceeding one. Thus, when I try to add it to the WAM 2016 I receive a message saying that the article is not mine and it cannot be taken into account. Removing an article.

Hello. It's me again. I had a problem, which is already solved, with an article. I mean, I had to put a provisional name to an article prior to have it renamed properly. Now it is done, but in the list of WAM articles (spanish language) the old one is still there. Its name is "Batalla de Hakodate*" (with an asterisk, not to be mistaken with "Batalla de Hakodate", wich is the good one that deserves to be in the list). Hi Nirjal stha, the newest Opera versions are fully supported, a white page is shown for browsers like Opera 12 (released five years ago, in 2011). Error 500 when trying to change a vote

Sorry for bugging you once again. One of the organizers on pt-wiki (Guilherme Moura) is having trouble with changing his vote (previously no to yes) on two particular articles: pt:Ghazala Javed (submitted by Luiz F. Fritz) and pt:Força Aérea do Azerbaijão (submitted by Gato Preto). The screencap on the right corresponds to the error message shown when he tries to change his vote.

Is it okay to fix typo error in earlier submissions?

Hi Le Loy, as the topic mentioned, shortly before the editathon ended I submitted an article but wrote the article's name in Traditional Chinese - it should be in Simplified Chinese. (That means 「哈薩克斯坦旅遊業」 is wrong, but “哈萨克斯坦旅游业” is the correct name.) Such an error resulted in my article's rejection by judges, due to the tool's sensitivity of Chinese characters. The same problem occurred last year, but the problem is not serious as the related article is not a submission on the last day. I thought that fixing such an minor (as I think) error should not be counted as a late submission (because the objective of both acts are exactly the same) and it should be allowed on discretion. According to the statistics here, the article th:แม่น้ำราวี was created on 31 October around 6:41 pm. UTC time, which is equivalent to 1:41 am. on 1 November Bangkok time (GMT+7). I believe that the 1 hr and 40 min time span after the midnight was enough to write an article of that length. Ping to Anonimeco. 1. I am only from tamil wikipedia. Not Nepali and in tamil the editathon's name is விக்கிக்கோப்பை-2017
2. The articles should contain minimum 50 words and have references. Users can only submit articles from First january to 31st january 2017. and Jurys can give points to articles still february 10, 2017. Requests-And in the tool there should be comment facilities and accept, not accept facilities, and there should be a facility to put the points for a particular article of a user. and the points should be shown n the editahon.
3. Now, I am only the jury. If others join I will inform you.
4. Here is that template
5. * For every articles which are more than 50 words 5 points is given.

• And for more each fifty words 2 points is given (eg-if the article contain 150 words 50 words + 50 words + 50 words=basic 5 points + extra 2 points for more fifty words + extra 2 points for more fifty words:- totally 9 points for 150 words)

Кафедра стилистики и перевода якутского языка СВФУ объявила конкурс среди студентов на написание статей в Саха Википедию. По их замыслу, считать нужно будет статьи внесенные до 30 декабря, написанные студентами, на определенные три темы. Сейчас я формирую страничку конкурса. Я бы хотел, чтобы Ваш замечательный Фонтан поработал и на этом нашем конкурсе. Получится ли?

По процедуре. Видимо, идентифицировать студентов будет жюри из преподавателей. А вносить статьи через Фонтан будут как сами студенты, так и администраторы проекта. Спасибо! Условия студенческого конкурса решили сделать мягкими: требования к объему 1000 байт или больше 100 слов (статья принимается если соблюдено любое из этих условий). Статья не обязательно должна быть создана в период конкурса (т.е. можно дополнять старую). Автор должен быть зарегистрирован в текущем календарном году (это не обязательный для Фонтана параметр), и являться студентом СВФУ (этот параметр для жюри), соответствие теме и прочие качественные параметры статьи тоже на откуп жюри. Hi Jayantanth, it can be done with Fountain, the only concern is: Fountain can't assign marks from 1 article to several users. We can make 2 different editathons for primary proofreaders and secondary proofreaders. Or we could limit the number of proofreaders to 1 per page. Which way would serve your purpose better? Hi Ле Лой, thanks for letting us know, that Fountain can be helpful for Wikisource contest. It would be great if Fountain could assign marks for single page to different users as at least 2 users are needed to complete a page (primary proofreading and secondary proofreading i.e. validating). Also sometimes more people are needed just for primary proofreading, because some pages are too complex to handle by one user. Also sometimes, vandalized proofreading steps shall be reverted back, which will also revert the point given to the user. I would like to start a new contest in Catalan Wikiquote: Quinzena Bertrana a Viquidites, to commemorate the birth of two Catalan writers (Aurora Bertrana and Prudenci Bertrana) and their works. Currently, I and two others are planning an edit-a-thon in jvwiki which will last from April 2017 to February 2018. We are thinking if we can use your tool for our event. Hi JogiAsad, sd:صبغت اللہ شاهه راشدي اول is not big enough (2,165 bytes, 102 words). I had no trouble adding two other articles. If you can't do it, please confirm that sd:راجڪمار هيراڻي should be assigned to user sd:يوزر:سنڌي وڪيپيڊيا, and sd:آرتي ڇاٻڙيا to sd:User:JogiAsad. The end date is now 15 June. А вот, в случае со ст.w:ru:Подсудок я, в данный момент нахожусь буквально в недоумении.
Это была моя самая первая спасённая статья на КУЛ. И поначалу меня также даже очень воодушевило, что когда я её улучшил, то на с. w:ru:Википедия:К улучшению/26 мая 2017 получил отзыв «Изрядно дополнено» [6]. Текст показался мне и самому довольно связным и последовательным и даже показывает развитие термина в хронологическом измерении, тем более, с источниками. Это и сподвигло меня к дальнейшему участию в марафоне КУЛ. И я возлагал на эту статью определённые надежды («наверное, мне дадут за неё, хотя бы, 2 балла»).
А вот потом я, напротив, довольно сильно расстроился. Ну, во-первых, сперва Maxinvestigator оценил её не как «Изрядно дополненную», а как «просто дополненную». А потом и вы меня «просто добили»: оказывается, вообще «(статья не дополнена) Отправлено на КУЛ после начала марафона». Это мне вообще не понятно, что значит. Ведь, как и было сказано на с.w:ru:Википедия:КУЛ должен быть очищен/V, я выбрал статью из списка требующих улучшения и устранил претензии к ней, изложенные в номинации. Что значит фраза «Отправлено на КУЛ после начала марафона»? — Ведь это же не после моей доработки статья была отправлена на доработку (что свидетельствовало бы о низком или неудовлетворительном качестве доработки). По результатам моей работы с неё был снят шаблон КУЛ, и сейчас претензии с неё сняты. Доработка статьи не требуется. Т.е. статья была фактически доработана. Непредвзятые участники даже оценивают мой вклад как довольно «изрядный».
Нигде в правилах марафона - ни на w:ru:Википедия:КУЛ должен быть очищен, ни на w:ru:Википедия:КУЛ должен быть очищен/V не сказано, что в ходе марафона не оцениваются доработанные статьи, добавленные на КУЛ после начала марафона. Если бы я знал, что так будет, я просто не брался бы за доработку этой статьи (к чему тогда терять силы и время). Это какой-то абсурд. Статья выбрана в соответствии с указаниями положений марафона, доработана, с неё снят шаблон КУЛ, доработка статьи не требуется, а доработанной не считается. Никаких оговорок по этому поводу в правилах марафона КУЛ нет. О таких «ловушках» следует чётко оговаривать в правилах. Так нечестно. Чувствую себя обманутым.

Хмм, Dghor, но ведь в правилах прямо на странице w:ru:Википедия:КУЛ должен быть очищен/V написано «При начислении баллов учитываются только статьи, номинированные к улучшению до начала конкурса и доработанные со дня его начала по день окончания». Даааааа… теперь-то я увидел эти формулировки, вернее, осознал их… Но:
1) Формулировки, действительно, нечёткие, поскольку участник примеряет на себя всё то, что его имеет к нему отношение: всё, что касается выбора статей, правил доработки, сроков начала и окончания, а всё, что касается «начисления баллов» имеет отношение к членам жюри. Поэтому как-то даже мысли не возникает, что это может как-либо ограничить выбор статей для доработки для участия в марафоне. (Это уже "двойное перенаправление" и требует "исправления ботами".) Считаю, что при таком подходе следовало бы дополнить правила марафона фразами: «При выборе статей для доработки обратите внимание, что в соответствии с правилами марафона не начисляются баллы (не оценивается доработка) для статей, добавленных на КУЛ после даты начала марафона». Или: «В марафоне не участвуют статьи, внесенные на КУЛ позднее такой-то даты <и указать последний день перед началом марафона> »
2) Причем, бывает, что вынесение на КУЛ обновляется и тогда статья появляется вверху списка КУЛ. Какой тогда в этом смысл? Как тогда участнику марафона определить, была ли эта статья вынесена на КУЛ давно или появилась сейчас. Это надо целые "раскопки проводить".
3) Или, если цель марафона действительно "подчистить хвосты", то следует при объявлении марафона чётко указывать: «В марафоне участвуют статьи, внесенные на КУЛ не позднее такой-то даты».
4) В целом считаю такой подход абсурдным. Ведь люди так или иначе дорабатывают статьи на КУЛ, т.е. не дают ему разрастаться, что и является главной целью марафона. --Dghor (talk) 00:22, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Ну, ладно. И напоследок развёрнутые уточнения в тему. Кстати, рискованно выбирать для доработки самые последние статьи из списка КУЛ. Я заметил, что КУЛ не перестаёт обновляться даже после начала марафона. И статьи в последней строчке КУЛ постоянно меняются ("подчищаются") — не только исключаются полностью доработанные строки, но и могут быть случаи, когда статьи переносятся в самый верх таблицы КУЛ с новой датой вынесения на КУЛ. Иногда бывают курьёзы, когда уже взятая в доработку статья может появиться обновлённой на КУЛ в самом верху списка КУЛ и, формально, выпасть из условий марафона. в том числе, и по этой причине установление ограничений к участию статей в марафоне по дате их вынесения на КУЛ является довольно абсурдным. --Dghor (talk) 01:21, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Причём, вот ещё что: на момент начала марафона — вынесенные на КУЛ вчера статьи дорабатывать можно, а сегодняшние нет. А на момент конца марафона это уже практически статьи месячной давности (но, не дай Бог, ты ошибёшься на день и возьмёшь в доработку не ту статью). Dghor, проблемы с переносом на самом деле нет: Фонтан ищет в истории время первой простановки шаблона. Смысл ограничения на заранее вынесенные статьи был в том, чтобы люди работали с тем, что уже есть, а не выносили себе статьи и тут же дорабатывали их. Возможно есть какой-то более логичный способ избежать этого, но он мне пока не пришёл в голову. Le Loy 02:48, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Le Loy. I find your tools interesting and very helpful to facilitate our editathon in idwiki. ;-) But, there's something I would like to know more, how we manage to remove a submitted article from the tools? This is happened because there are two articles have been deleted on idwiki because of rough translations and, somehow, an idwiki sysop deleted it. Later, another user recreated the same article and he improved it and we would like to add +1 score to his work. Unfortunately, this is impossible because the article is still in other user's submitted list. Should you need any details about this, I'm happy to provide it.
