Stewards/Confirm/2022

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Translate this page at Template:Steward confirmations.

Warning

The 2022 steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2022-23 Confirmation will begin on 07 February, and will finish on 26 February.

The 2022-23 Steward Confirmations are an opportunity for the Wikimedia community to comment on the performance of existing stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, the confirmations are organized as follows.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before 07 February. During the 2022 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2022 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2022 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: I've had COVID in early 2021, and took a few months (mostly off-internet) dealing with after-effect of that. That's the only excuse and I don't have further excuses to make.
I've been handling somewhat emergency requests from time to time, and I think I am still (somewhat) valuable for community for an emergency contact. Since I don't want to hold the right I don't use, if I am less (or similarly) active in 2022 than 2021, I will not seek renewal in 2023. — regards, Revi 19:16, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello. I have almost completed my first year as a Steward and have learned a lot this year with more still to learn. In this past year, my areas of focus have been SRCU, SRGP, SRP and SRG. I do still have some ideas for changing steward processes and I will advocate more for that this year, along with continuing to serve the areas I mentioned. -- Amanda (she/her) 15:50, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is my third confirmation I believe. Subjectively it feels like in 2021 I was more active than in 2019, but less active than in 2020. Unfortunately neither of those constitutes a big activity neither quantitatively, such as in the number of logged actions, or qualitatively, such as dealing with difficult RfCs. That said, there are some things I was doing. Main focus for me remained on SRP and SRGP, occasional replies to OTRSVRT letters to stewards, especially in Russian and Ukrainian; occasional replies to requests sent privately or in chats, as I am generally available on most platforms Wikimedians use to talk to each other, pinging me to do something works in most cases, unless I am afk, with the major exceptions being a couple of difficult cases that I have left for others to deal with in due time. I have participated in some of the steward Trust and Safety calls, tried to represent Stewards' UG on some of the SWAN calls, although my main focus there was on my other affiliate's interests. I have participated in some of the mailing list discussions, and renamed a few accounts using the global rename access. Traditionally locks and global blocks are not my focus, although I have suppressed a couple of hundreds of offensive username accounts of an LTA active mostly on ukwiki. Generally I am trying to be available all the time, but over this year it was only sporadically that I actively checked the requests. I am happy with my activity given 2021 was a more difficult year for me than 2020 because of some stuff IRL, but globally I hope to raise my activity levels eventually. That said, it would be understandable if you oppose my confirmation because of low activity or because of other factors, but in any case I will remain active on Meta in my other capacities as well as will try to help with some steward related things this way or the other. --Base (talk) 03:05, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Doubtless, there will be some people wondering who I am. I asked for my account to be renamed from User:Green Giant a few months ago. This has been another very difficult year for me personally. I have lost more members of my immediate family to COVID-19 and had a second bout of the illness in the summer, although I seem to have recovered more quickly this time. In terms of steward activities, my priority has been the stewards VRT queue, where I have answered more than a thousand emails. These have included emails from people experiencing global IP blocks (both anonymous and registered accounts), requests for IP block exemptions, complaints about local IP blocks (gently redirected to user talk pages), and requests to block pesky local administrators who set the aforementioned local blocks! I have also processed a number of lock appeals (mostly declined because the appellant did not want to stop their abusive behaviour) including one that wanted me to believe that being blocked for vandalism on 12 wikis was not serious enough to warrant a global lock 😬. In addition, I have tagged hundreds of spam/phishing emails (no, Wikimedia stewards do not want to buy thousands of discounted face masks, although we are considering applying for lucrative PPE contracts with corrupt government officials 🤔), and locked dozens of spam accounts. A few months ago, I was kindly selected by the English Wikinews community to become a bureaucrat and a checkuser (does this qualify me as a 🎩-collector? 🥳). Apologies for the emojis but I believe I can still contribute and with your permission I’d like to serve at least one more year as a steward.

I must be honest to you: I cannot promise to maintain super high activity levels as a steward or be highly active on IRC because of RL needs. I can, however, commit to a moderate level of activity. I would like to provide assistance as a steward for another year, mainly handling cross-wiki abuse/vandalism/spam/LTAs, rights requests and helping out in AAR, if I still deserve your confidence. I realize I was not much present on IRC, and will definitely rectify that if I am allowed to continue. Please don't hesitate to leave any comment you feel appropriate. Thank you for considering. • Personal info: According to stats, I've been about as active as in previous years. However, it still feels much more time-consuming than it's reflected in raw numbers. Nowadays, I can be reached much easier on Discord than IRC where I handle a couple of requests from users who know that I can be reached there easily. This also led me to take more edits on SR subpages than ever before, I think. Furthermore, I've attended various calls with the WMF about the future of the movement and the stewards' role within, as well as the monthly steward calls, in particular about technical issues. I'm still acting as a co-contact for the Wikimedia Stewards User Group but haven't had much time in the last quarter of the year for these activities due to some real-life activities for the first time again since the start of the pandemic which is why I could submit the report only later than intended. Besides that, I'm active in non-public conversations on our various channels, mostly sharing my experiences from more than a decade in this role. I'm motivated to continue my activities in a similar way and look forward to celebrating my 15th anniversary this year. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I am not a sock puppeteer! You make yourself common with the admins who break rules. You should be ashamed of yourself, Martin. Your job is to protect the Universal Code of Conduct and the individual author, not the admins who violate it. The individual person is powerless against such violence, but he can still open his mouth and say how things are ordered in the eye of the storm that breaks over him. It is an shameful testimony for the German Wikipedia. AlgoritX3 (talk) 00:21, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see that he now calls me a troll [1] on the German Wikipedia, my home wiki, because I criticize him here. A better proof that he is not suitable for the stewardship is not needed.AlgoritX3 (talk) 00:44, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Factually untrue. I call the behaviour trollish. And don't you think that running around, giving remove vote to people totally unrelated to your case, cannot be called trollish? I do. And I stand with my interpretation. Regaring your person, I didn't know you (and for that reason would never form an opinion about your person) until our AdminConvention this weekend where I politely answered your questions with advice and links. But hey, people speak through their behaviour. Very childish move here, to be honest. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 08:18, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Martin, I notice that here is a perpetrator-victim reversal, so-called victim blaming. My account was banned yesterday due to lies and abuse by the administrator @Itti:. There was no rule violation, only the personal accusation of this person. In the past, this was punished as an insult to the king and called. Nobody did anything about it. Of course, I am totally appalled by this. I'm sorry you got dragged into this, but what do you expect from people when they are excluded arbitrarily from the German wiki? Best, --AlgoritX3 (talk) 08:53, 21 February 2022 (UTC) PS: And I think the general public of Wikipedia should learn that some things are absolutely wrong in the German Wikipedia.[reply]
Asking for help instead of calling people who might help for removal? Very weird reaction to slash around in order to get help … At least I feel totally unmotivated to look deeper into your case (which wouldn't be my role as a steward anyway, we are here for technical actions and not anything related to UCoC). —DerHexer (Talk) 08:57, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the stewards are not in charge, I will set my vote to neutral. It was never my intention to harm you. AlgoritX3 (talk) 09:00, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

During the last 6 years of stewardship, my activity was mainly focused on SRG and SRP requests. Last year, I have been less present on IRC to handle direct requests, because of a change in my office network policy (that blocked any IRC access). To be totally honest, my activity last year (2021) have not been as high as I expected due to (now solved) unexpected IRL priorities, but it seems to be brighter for 2022 that's why I wish to renew my application as a steward for one more year. Nothing much has changed in that time. I believe I have a record of attracting no, or very little, controversy, both as a Steward and in my work on my main content projects (the English Wikipedia and Wikibooks). I've maintained a steady activity level throughout the year with a dip in November / December when I was busy in real life. I am active most days. I also helped with last year's admin activity review checks and processed Bot policy implementation requests too, as well as other miscellaneous stewards' tasks (e.g., performing administrative duties on projects without (or inactive) administrators, renaming users, tweaking/creating edit (abuse) filters, etc.). This is my second confirmation. Since I believe my work as a steward has been beneficial to the community, I would like to continue in a next term. I don't have a dedicated area of steward work to focus on, and I always try to help wherever I can.

In addition to my role as a steward, I'm a Czech Wikipedia administrator, bureaucrat and checkuser, as well as a Wikidata administrator. I'm active in the technical community (see Phabricator), too.

As always, if you have any questions, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them.

  • Personal info: Hello! This is my second confirmation as a steward. Going off last year's statement, I had anticipated by now that my work as a steward would have expanded in new ways. This time last year, I didn't feel like I was delivering enough. However the support I enjoyed from the community and my colleagues changed my opinion of myself. With another year passed, I think I've decided I'm content with my level of activity and have finally found my niche as a steward. That is, most of my actions are in reaction to automation I use (largely fighting long-term abuse), as opposed to proactively finding ways to help out. I hope this doesn't shed me in bad light; the truth is I enjoy helping in every way I can, but it's been difficult to balance my various roles and maintain a healthy amount of time away from the wiki, too. I believe I can say I've found that balance, and so long as others are happy with my work, I am too.

Nonetheless I still stay quite busy, with most weekdays going by with at least a few steward actions (note that my focus as a steward means many of my actions are hidden from public view). Additionally I like to think I'm pretty responsive on IRC, and regularly respond to steward requests there, or when I'm approached directly.

In addition to my usual fight against long-term abuse, I'd like to highlight a few technical contributions as a steward. In particular, I added proper IP range support to xtools:globalcontribs, which for me has been an indispensable tool as a steward. I hope others have or will enjoy using it as well (while it lasts). Additionally, I have some unfinished work for MoreMenu that should make steward life easier, for those who use that gadget.

Obligatory disclaimer: I am an engineer on WMF's Community Tech team. As I've said in previous statements, I have not experienced nor foresee any negative crossover with this role and my stewardship, given my focus as a steward is routine, uncontroversial counter-vandalism and maintenance. There is quite a gap in my activity over the past several weeks, and if you're wondering about that it can solely be attributed to my obligations with the Community Wishlist Survey 2022.

I appreciate any feedback the community offers me, and look forward to an even more productive year serving you as a steward. Thank you!

Hello friends and fellow Wiki?edians! I am Operator873. I was elected in 2021 and this will be my first confirmation. I work mainly against spambots and react to LTA activities as reported on SR/G and via IRC. I'm very present on IRC, Discord, and try to make myself available for quick reaction requests. I write and maintain IRC bots like Bot873 which is known as both Bot873 and GlobalSysBot on Libera.chat. Those bots support the Global Sysops and other Stewards in #wikimedia-gsconnect and a few other channels. CabalBot is also one of my bots, but I plan to integrate its functionality into Bot873 and retire him. My home wiki is the Simple English Wikipedia where I am a sysop and CheckUser. I'm also a sysop here on meta and I've volunteered as a "Steward in residence" (I just made that up) on the English Wikipedia ACC team and worked on answering tickets on VRT.

In the coming year, I plan to continue my modus operandi as described. I am also looking forward to working with some fellow stewards and volunteers to do some Python3 projects as well. Thank you very much for the support and I look forward to continuing to serve the community.

  • Personal info: Hi, everyone! This is my seventh confirmation as a steward, and I am honored to be part of this awesome team for so long. As a steward, I deal mostly with LTA and cross-wiki abuse/vandalism/spam, but also have a reasonable bit of action in other areas such as user rights management and account renaming. I also do some behind the scenes stuff, such as the management of mailing lists and the private checkuser wiki (those additional accesses required as users get promoted or removed from their roles, and other mantainence tasks there).

Although 2020 was not an easy year for me by no means, things seemed to have returned to normal in 2021. However, in the middle of last year, I changed roles at work, and had to acquire new assignments quickly. In the midst of it all, I had covid 2 times, and also lost 2 co-workers to this disease. All this affected my time available for Wikipedia projects, but thankfully, by October, I managed to to rearrange most things and resume my activities on Meta-Wiki. Anyway, if my activity level drops again, I will not seek for confirmation in 2023.

Since I am still active and around for dealing with emergencies or daily requests, I am interested in continuing serving as a steward for one more year, if I can count on your support. I think I can be useful to the corpus of stewards, and I hope I could get the opportunity to share my views and experience with the incoming stewards. Thank you for participanting!

I was elected on the last SE (2021), so this is my first confirmation. Along the last year I keep myself active and did about 7k actions using steward’s tools in several areas. I was more active on permission-related requests (SRP, SRGP) and anti-spam efforts. I also tried help on our backlogs at SRG (not so much as I wish, I will try to do better next year). On the background, I answered ~600 tickets sent to stewards(_AT_) on VRTS and I participated when possible in our mailing lists. I’m also using the rename tool (most specifically for requests from ptwiki, my home wiki).

I had two months with less activities (november-december) due to personal stuff, but I’m backing now in January. Next year I pretend keep doing the activities I’m already doing as steward, and will try to help more on SRG, VRT and IRC, places where I saw we needed more help last year.

I think this is all I have to say, so I kindly ask you to continue for more one year as steward. Please, feel free to post any feedback, question or concern about my actions, I'm happy to answer. Best regards, stanglavine msg 18:10, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hi. I have served as a steward since March 2015 and I would be interested to continue for another year. My activity stayed last year almost the same compared to 2020. And I expect it to stay the same this year, so I feel I can still be useful in this position. My steward activity last year was mostly focusing in blocking cross wiki vandals. I'm available on IRC when I can and I follow actively my email. I count as my home wikis the Finnish Wikipedia, Meta-Wiki and Wikidata, in which all I'm an administrator. I'm also a checkuser on Finnish Wikipedia.

  • Personal info: I have now been a Steward for ten years now so this is my tenth confirmation. My activity this year has been similar to previous years with a lot of spam-bots and cross-wiki vandalism. I can often be found on IRC for dealing with emergencies. With your support I would like to continue for another year. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:34, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hi, folks. I am Lucas Teles, wikimedian since 2007. I have been a steward since 2012. In 2020, I didn’t run for confirmation for personal reasons, but returned last year and this is my first confirmation since then. I have been active mainly attending on SRG, but also proactively looking for spambots, vandals, LTA's, lurking on IRC, performing admin tasks on small wikis. I am more than happy to keep serving community if that's its desire and plan to keep same level of activity this year. Thanks for the opportunity all these years.—Teles «Talk ˱C L @ S˲» 18:47, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello folks! This is my second confirmation.
This year I have been mostly active clearing SRG backlogs, blocking proxies, especially P2P ones (which have driven my logged actions way high), and, more recently, on the technical side by submitting a couple of commits to the code for the GlobalBlocking extension, that we use daily. I've also scrutinized the fawiki and enwiki ArbCom elections, and the MCDC one. I've also worked on closing RfCs, such as the Global Bot Policy revamp, the global ban for Kubura (2020) and the historical hrwiki RfC.
I think I did a good work this year, and hope to be reconfirmed for one more. Thank you! —Thanks for the fish! talkcontribs 01:53, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello everyone,

For the tenth(!) time already I write my confirmation statement, last October I - silently - celebrated my ten years anniversary as steward. In January 2021 I looked forward to the new year and hoped for a much calmer year, but 2021 was - for the biggest part due to personal reasons - difficult for me, to say the least. My volunteer work on the Wikimedia projects came therefore on a second place. Though I must admit, while looking back, that I'm not as inactive as I had thought. I've done quite some things and also managed - in most cases - to handle the accesses on private wikis, lists and irc channels.

So my conclusion is the same as last year: I wish to prolong my stewardship and hope you could support me in that, if you still trust me in this role of course. Thank you.

  • Personal info: Cons: several serious tech problems lack of proper attention (Blazegraph, CU, global tools), some global processes are weak (OC) or broken (RFCs), policies are growing without an overall framework and even necessary and uncontroversially agreeable ones are pushed through the wrong process // Concerns: language barriers make me fear new hr.wikis lie unnoticed, outstanding tickets are *too many* // Pros: one of the worst case in wiki history greatly improved, we survived waves of disinformation, we're still one of the most civil places on the Internet.

  • Personal info: Dear community,

Since I'm one of the stewards that got elected in 2021 this will be my first confirmation. In the past year I have about 20k steward action of which most of are mostly due to open proxies and spambots. In my own view I don't have a specific field of steward work and try to help as much I can in any area where people might need help.

I do feel my activity dropped off a bit later in the year due a lot of IRL work. In recent times I have tried to find the balance again dealing with both. I personally think my work has benefitted the community and therefore I would like to continue as steward for the next term.

If there's anything you would like to know, please don't hesitate to ask it and I'll try to reply to the best of my ability.

  • Personal info: Hello Everyone, this is the third year. This 2021 it has been a year of big changes for me but I tried to contribute to SRG, CU, and blocking spambot/OP. I hope I still have the trust of the community and continue to help the projects by serving as a steward

  • Personal info: Hello. This is my fourth confirmation. During last year I was active dealing with requests mostly on SRG and various other tasks from time to time. In addition, I used my steward access for fighting cross-wiki abuse/vandals/spammers and LTAs.

Over the past year, I'm being more active on SRG (especially global un/block), admin activity review, Global AbuseFilter, help on SRUC complicated requests and other tasks. Also, I cooperated with a lot of local CUs and sysops to solve cross-wiki issues (of course, with the help of global sysops).

Generally(CentralAuth), I'm bureaucrat, sysop and checkuser on Arabic Wikipedia, and sysop on multiple projects (especially Wikidata, Commons and Meta). Over the years, I have made more than 488K edits on Wikimedia wikis.

I would be happy to continue for another term. If you have any questions or comments or suggestions, I would be glad to hear them. Thank you--Alaa :)..! 15:09, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
